Charlie P.

Charlotte, NC

Learn how to create different parts for songs or pieces and keep everything sounding interesting. Creativity is the name of the game!

About Charlie

I have been passing on what I've learned in my own studies, personal and privately taught, to help new students get the strong foundations for becoming the best musician they can be. I've been playing since age 6 (now 44) and performing since 18. I started with Classical guitar, then Rock and Jazz. In all my years of study, I've learned how to teach and how NOT to teach. I have had many years of private lessons. I've written, recorded and performed for over 20 years. My wife and I even do voice over work on occasion.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students have become friends and I've seen man
y go on to become performers, songwriters and teachers. I also use a wide range of materials when teaching like DVDs, CDs, and computer 'play along' tracks. I love teaching, seeing people smile and enjoy making music. Music is like painting : I try to show students as many colors as I can and encourage them to create something of their own which others can enjoy as well.
I sometimes learn FROM my students as they present something they wish top learn but I must first figure it out before showing them how to play it. It's very give and take when I teach.

*** Studio Equipment ***
studio on second floor for lessons; chairs and equipment available; books, metronomes, music stands, cd players, cables and amps; acoustic & electric guitars.

*** Specialties ***
Rock and Jazz and appreciation of Classical
Expose students to music they normally don't listen to.
Guidance through improvisation and creative process.

Awesome

Charlie is not only a great teacher, but a great guy. he is fun and easy to be around, creating a relaxing environment for learning. Everything i know how to do on bass was made possible by Charlie. He is slow with the process and makes sure not to rush you and makes sure you understand 100% of the material before moving on. He is simply awesome.

Steve C.

Matthews, NC

About Steve

Originally from Columbia SC, Steve began music lessons at age 8. He continued with them for ten years then enrolled at The University of South Carolina as a music major. Steve studied piano with Dr. John Williams Emeritus Professor of Music, studied music theory and composition with Dr. Peter Gerschefski and was a member of the Choir led by Dr. Arpad Darazs. All of these great musicians and teachers had a major influence on Steve.

After college Steve traveled extensively and playing and performing in Las Vegas Style show bands.Steve moved to Charlotte in 1982 married Debra and began a Famil
y, At that time a neighbor asked Steve to teach his son piano. Steve discovered he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love of music. The rest, as they say, is history. Steve has been a full time private piano teacher for the last seven years.

Steve is a member of Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum and conducts recitals and performance opportunities for its members.
Steve continues to teach full time and perform with various groups.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginners, I use a fairly traditional approach. I start students with the Bastien Books, John Schaum note speller, and a scale book. I emphasize chord recognition as soon as possible and show the student how to build on these patterns. I am very patient and not at all overly demanding. I realize children ( and adults) and very busy with many activities and piano is just one of them.

Of course having said that, you will get out of it what you put into it. I am a good teacher, but I can't sprinkle magic dust on you and make you a good musician. My teaching philosophy is totally positive reinforcement.

For more advanced students, I recommend certain classical repertory and popular music if they are interested. Let's pull out the I-Pod and play along with Coldplay, McCartney, Beatles, Black eyed Peas, Glee -Whatever interests you!

*** Specialties ***
in addition to teaching piano lessons I am proficient in synth sounds and running an instrument like the Yamaha Motif, Sequencing, and creating soundbeds.

Janetta D.

Huntersville, NC

About Janetta

Many of my students not only learn to sing, they also learn to write their own songs and record. However, if you want to learn to sing, we can do that. I have two Master's degrees, one in education and one in supervision. So I understand how students learn. I have been teaching over 10 years. My training took place with very special teachers, people who write, and sing for a living. Jai josel who worked for RCA, Jason Blume, who wrote for Brittney Spears, and Stephen Schwartz who wrote the Broadway Musical, Wicked. My singing teachers include Van Christy, Roger Love, Rosemary Bulter and ot
hers. Recently I completed an album of 12 original songs. I have a website which I will share with you after you enroll in my class.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every thing is a skill. Singing is skill-based. We even have a skill that tells you what to do when you are nervous. Skills have a name, a purpose, a procedure and a time and place for use. So they can be retrieved when needed. After 3 to 6 months a student should be able to understand their singing anatomy. the four stages of breathing, sing correctly, understand the role focus plays in singing, understand the role of scales, and many other skills. The lessons are entertaining and informative. I develop the total student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room with keyboards, and computer. Parents can sit on lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I developed a course called Commercial songwriting and Music Psychology. I teach songwriting as a skill base course of study that can be easily learned like other professions. I teach one to write in all genres and to write to todays trends. We use a process that develops a song from concept to finish song product. My students learn to write albums from songs written in class.
