I teach piano to students of all ages and levels. I try to make it fun while helping you to reach your goals. Whether you want to play for enjoyment or play in recitals or bands, we can get you where you want to be. The type of music studied (classical, pop, jazz) depends on the student. If there is no preference, I encourage learning different genres.

About Sue
I enjoy teaching students of all ages and levels. Each lesson is customized to meet the individual students' needs and goals. I have over 15 years of teaching experience.

My education in music is extensive. I was principal cellist at the Interlochen Arts Academy orchestra in Interlochen, Michigan. I have a Doctorate from Indiana University in Music Composition and Music Theory. I also studied piano and cello at Indiana University. I have a Masters degree in music from Butler University in Indianapolis. My major was composition but I also studied piano.

My teaching experience is al
so extensive. I have taught intermediate campers at the Interlochen Center for the Arts summer camp as well as at Butler University and Indiana State University. I have been writing music and teaching private piano, cello, music theory, and composition lessons in Charlotte, NC for the last ten years.

My compositions include solo and chamber pieces as well as electronic works, symphonic band works, and orchestral works. In 2004 I won the Judith Lang Zaimont award from the International Association of Women in Music.

I love music and enjoy sharing it with others. So whether you are 5 or 90, or somewhere in between, let's have some fun!

Jen has performed on saxophone with many ensembles through the years...concert bands, symphonic bands, jazz bands, church / community bands...and has taught private lessons on piano, clarinet and saxophone for over 20 years. *** Studio Equipment ***
I teach out of the loft in our home...it's a big, open room. I have an electronic keyboard for piano students to use. There are specific method books I like to use for teaching, and those will be required of students. I also have sheet music that will periodically be given to students as part of their weekly assignments. I have extra chairs for caregivers to stay and listen...family members are always welcome to stay for the lessons.

I'm a returning student after 40 years, convinced I no longer knew how to sight read and had no sense of rhythm. Christina selected exactly the right material to start me off with! The perfect combination of keyboard familiarity, progression thru different keys (I, IV, V etc in key of C, B etc), what 'resolved' sounded like, music time (4/4, 6/8), the cues for volume + tone. She tuned up my mind as well as my ear - I couldn't be more thrilled!
