Meredith D.

Taneytown, MD

About Meredith

I am a graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a B.A. in Music, emphasis in Performance and Musicology. I work very well with young children and especially love to work with beginning guitarists of all ages.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher who enjoys cultivating my students' love for guitar and music by introducing them to a variety of styles including classical, blues, and pop. In lessons, I introduce beginning students to basic music theory, reading music notation, scales, chords, and of course, individual pieces of the student's own choosing. My g
oal is for each student to have a solid understanding of basic music concepts and to have fun learning, playing, and appreciating the guitar.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Chairs, music stand if possible. Parents are more than welcome to sit in on lessons or stay in the same room.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my student to provide their own guitar, and if they are taking electric guitar lessons, an amplifier. I will provide my own guitar, and if need be, a music stand and guitar pieces to learn from. Most of the time I expect students to obtain their own copies of music scores if they are interested in learning a specific piece that I do not have on file.

*** Specialties ***
I have studied electric guitar including rock, pop, and blues genres; as well as classical guitar including a specific interest in works from the Romantic era including pieces by Tarrega, Barrios, as well as pieces by Villa-Lobos, Bach, and Dowland.

Amber R.

Carlisle, PA

About Amber

I began taking piano lessons at a young age and continued with them through my freshman year of college. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and five years of experience teaching private piano lessons. My degree and experience with elementary aged children have prepared me to be able to tailor lessons to my students' individual needs, explain concepts in creative ways, and adjust the pace of lessons as needed. Playing piano is something that I really enjoy, so I love having the opportunity to give students the skills they need to enjoy it, too!

*** Lesson Details ***
I try t
o create a learning environment that's fun and laid back while still maintaining reasonable expectations for my students. I love seeing my students succeed, so I do my best to give them all the tools they need to do so! Faber & Faber's Piano Adventures books are my preference for students. I want students to have fun and enjoy what they play, so I also like to include songs from whatever category my students' are most interested in, such as popular, jazz, musical theater, etc. After 6 months of taking lessons with me, students will have a firm grasp on all basic piano concepts (such as finger numbers, note names, the staff, and time signatures) and will have the ability to sight read beginning piano pieces. Whether you want to play professionally or just learn a new skill, I want to instruct students in a way that encourages them to love music and have fun along the way!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Open floor plan- Living/Dining area. Piano. Seating for parents. Street parking available.

We just love Amber as our piano teacher! My 8 year old daughter has had lessons for a few months now with Amber. Amber is so easy going and really strives to make learning fun. My daughter actually enjoys practicing now and doesn't dread lessons, as she has in the past. She has a special gift - thanks Amber!!!

About Evan

I have a passion for artistic expression. I've been playing guitar and drums since I was in early highschool, and have continued to play religiously since. I have a rather eclectic taste in music, which has helped me develop my own music into what it is today.
