Lynzi H.

Glendale, AZ

About Lynzi

Hello everyone! I've been singing since the age of 3 and performing since the age of 6. I am not only an experienced music teacher with a passion for music and teaching, but an experienced performer, and songwriter. I started performing at a young age with the Columbia School of Theatrical Arts, and as I grew older I studied different techniques such as speech level singing, classical, and even techniques from Brett Manning, one of the most amazing vocal coaches today who teaches artists such as Haley Williams from Paramore. I have experience performing many styles of music, and also was a voi
ce major in college. The students I teach will benefit from my contemporary techniques, and can learn to sing in almost any style of music they choose.

*** Lesson Details ***
Do you want to learn how to sing your favorite song just like the artist? I can teach you the techniques! Or how about how to make a cover song your own based off of your own unique voice? We can work together to find, develop, and build the amazing qualities that you have in your voice. I will not only work on aspects of what you would like to improve on with your voice personally, but I will make an individual plan for you that will dramatically improve your voice! I will work with you individually to strengthen any weakness you may have in a fun environment. I am fun, encouraging and motivating! When asking students to do any vocal exercises, I will explain what the certain exercise does to improve your voice so that you can have the knowledge you need to be a good vocalist, and not just know how to sing properly. You will learn many things in lessons and what I teach you will vary on where you are vocally.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a keyboard, CD, Boom box, music sheets, etc. Students do not need to provide anything.

*** Specialties ***
Speech level singing method, classical techniques, singing success, various genres including: pop, blues, contemporary, and musical theatre. I utilize the different techniques I have learned through proper classical training, but mix it with contemporary methods I have learned from speech level singing methods.

Ms. Lynzi is so amazing. She makes everything so easy when working with you. Over a short amount of time I've gotten better with my piano AND with my singing. If she could she could get you to a broad way show. She is just the most amazing teacher. If you choose her your making the best decision.

We absolutely love Lynzi. I have seen such a difference in my son in a very short time. His confidence has shot through the roof and under Lynzi's guidance, Josh auditioned and was chosen to sing in his school's talent show.

Lynzi is great at getting Josh to channel all his energy into his singing and getting him to focus and follow directions. I highly recommend her!!!

Patti G.

Glendale, AZ

About Patti

I have 30 years of teaching experience and have enjoyed a successful singing, teaching and conducting career in the US and Australia. I have excellent piano skills and can sight-read and play most piano accompaniments for my voice students. No two students are alike so I teach everyone according to their needs and their learning style. I have an exceptional understanding of the voice and communicate using tangible imagery to produce excellent results. I work with all levels of singers from beginners to career level in Broadway, Pop and Classical styles. Beyond university training, I have had
training from teachers and coaches from the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Arizona Opera and many others.
With piano, again, technique is important but lessons must be FUN! I like using innovative ideas and materials so that learning is exciting.

Practice is important for progress so the more you practice the faster you progress.

Because there is always more to learn, I continue to study and attend master-classes and workshops so I can be the best teacher I can be.

*** Lesson Details ***
I always want my students to leave their lessons knowing that they are better at the end of the lesson than they were at the beginning. Lessons are all about skill-building, so fundamentals of technique, theory and repertoire are included elements. I'm pretty laid back but know that practice is essential to progress. To that end, I always want my students to understand how to practice, not just what to practice. Practice doesn't make perfect, it makes permanent! My goal as a teacher is not just to help you achieve your goals, but to give you the ability to build on your own skills by knowing the how and the why, not just the what.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the music room, 5'8" grand piano, computer, iPad, Apple TV, music stands, good lighting

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students must have a piano that is tuned and in good working order or a full 88-key weighted action keyboard. Voice students must provide a recording device. All students will be required to purchase music books.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching the Italian school of "bel canto" singing. This technique provides complete connection of breath, voice and body and applies to all styles of singing.

For piano, I don't adhere to any one method. I teach practical, "real world" piano skills including playing chords and improvisation.

I have a Level 1 AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Patti is a phenomenal musician and teacher

Patti is the most effective music teacher I have worked with. She has an intimate and readily communicated knowledge of vocal technique, and crucially, where problems can arise. She has an intuitive awareness of the voice in a way that can only come from extensive professional experience in performance and education. In a relatively short space of time I have learnt a great deal and grown vocally beyond what I thought I would be capable of.

I cannot recommend Patti highly enough.

Pattie is an absolutely wonderful teacher who really knows her stuff. I have learnt so much over the short time we spent together and even though its been a while I can still put her techniques to good use.

David A.

Goodyear, AZ

About David

I am a pianist, guitarist, singer and songwriter. Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, I studied classical and jazz piano with Carole Neal, and classical and jazz guitar with Hank Bryant. I have won one Washington Area Music Award for an original instrumental composition. I have performed with numerous and varied musical situations, including The University of Maryland Jazz Orchestra, Pavement Chasers Tribute to Adele, Elvis Aaron Presley Jr., and my own original group “LUMA”, which performed at venues all over the Washington, D.C. area. In 1999, I received a Certificate of Au
dio Engineering from The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences in Tempe, Arizona. I then produced and performed as a studio musician on a variety of regional and national projects, including radio advertisements for The United Way, Chevrolet, and Pringles. In 2000, I produced, performed, and co-engineered on a recording of my own original music entitled “A & LILL”. I have extensive background and experience in rock, jazz, blues, classical and country musical styles. I currently perform as a freelance keyboardist and guitarist in the Phoenix metro area. In addition to teaching, my other musical passion is writing and performing my original music. I am published through Big Fish Music Publishing Group. With many years of experience teaching students of all ages, I am confident that I can provide lessons that combine both the necessary instruction in theory and technique with the fun and enjoyment of learning new songs! I am able to find out where each student wants to go in his or her musical adventure, and tailor a lesson plan based upon those needs.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have a teaching style which is informative and fun at the same time! I do typically use method books for piano and guitar lessons, as well as handouts which I provide. After a certain period of time, usually within 6 months, my students have a solid foundation in theory (scales, chords, etc.) and technique, and are usually on their way to playing songs. I encourage students to let me know what songs they are interested in learning! We learn music through both reading and by ear. I am very patient and I believe in repetition so that my students fully understand the music that they are working on.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Front room w/ grand piano, f/w keyboard, guitars, amps, and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
For my students, I incorporate a method involving a logical way to learn what the notes are on their instrument. My method involves a combination of music theory and hands on participation. I systematically expose them to theory in order to help them understand what is behind the exercises and songs that they are playing. I use both method books and my own supplemental handouts to enhance their learning experience. I also help students to learn music from audio recordings. I teach jazz, rock, pop, blues, country, and classical music styles.

David has been extremely helpful to me as a beginner. He is very patient and fun to learn from. He taught me everything from note reading to the Circle of Fifths. As a teacher, he encourages me to push through and not to give up. I'm excited to keep learning from him as our journey continues.

I have had the pleasure of taking guitar lessons from David. He has an ability to understand the level of the student and use this to his teaching style. Due to this, he was able to expand upon my past knowledge of music and incorporate it into how he teaches me. He brings a great depth of knowledge of music to his instruction which can transcend to other instruments. In addition, his program is well developed and ensures the success of the student to learning the guitar! David was extremely patient and very fun to learn from!

I went to Dave to learn theory to improve my note reading. With his patient persistence I'm learning the Seven Keys thru the Circle of Fifths. This is really helping me to play the pop and rock songs I love.

There is no accomplishment like learning music and Dave is a great guide to do it.

Nanette G.

Tolleson, AZ

About Nanette

I started studying piano and singing from a very young age. I used to make my friends come over and watch me perform (karaoke style--before karaoke was big) when i was in the 4th grade. My greatest love is music, performing music, and sharing it with others. As a singer i have studied all types of music, but my favorite- and what i excel at- is opera.

I have taken private voice and piano lessons constantly since the age of 5, and have studied opera performance and music theory in college. I perform locally around the community as a singer, direct the church choir, and occasionally
accompany soloists on the piano. I have taught private lessons in voice and piano for 5 years and i greatly enjoy the one on one experience of teaching private lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
I want my students to enjoy the time they spend with me. I believe in a very relaxed, comfortable environment, where students feel they can express themselves, but it is still an environment where time is maximized. In piano, 10-15 min is devoted to theory, scales, and chords, then we work on songs, some of my choosing and some of the students choosing. In voice we spend about 10-15 minutes on warm-ups and the rest of the time is devoted to songs. Again, there are songs that i choose for the students according to the needs of their voice and development, but i also allow the student to bring things he/she wants to learn for fun.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a sound system and microphone. i have my iPod hooked up to the sound system to play karaoke music.

*** Specialties ***
In piano I am partial to the John Thompson method. I also spend a portion of each lesson on scales and music theory.
In voice, I specialize in bel canto. The most beautiful sounds come when you are not straining the voice. I work on getting it out of the throat and into the mask.

**i do not recommend every other week lessons. take lessons does offer them, but i have not seen many students thrive or progress with that much time in between lessons.

Amy Z.

Avondale, AZ

About Amy

Hello there! If you are reading this then you or your child must be interested in learning how to read and play music. I am so excited for the journey you are about to begin!

My name is Amy and I am a certified music teacher. I graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in instrumental music education and I am nearly finished with my Master's degree in Band Conducting at American Band College. My primary instrument is clarinet. I have taught instrumental music for 10 years in the Valley.

I enjoy teaching students of all ages and abilities, especially beginners! I
teach beginner lessons in piano and brass instruments, beginner to intermediate level woodwinds, and beginner to advanced high-school level clarinet.

*** Lesson Details ***

Lessons with me will be tailored to each student's needs and goals, however note and rhythm reading will be a strong component in each lesson - especially for beginners. I have a very laid back and patient personality but I do feel that practice at home is very important and expect it from my students in order to give them the best chance at success.

As a general rule, young students and those with less than a year of experience on their instrument will likely do best with a 30 minute lesson. More advanced students may opt for the longer 45 minute lesson.

Students with intermediate or advanced ability on their instrument will have the opportunity to have lessons directed towards specific interests such as preparing for chair placement tests, honor band auditions, or solo and ensemble festivals.

*** Required Equipment ***

I have a full size (88 key) digital piano with attached pedal in my home studio for lessons. It is extremely important that students taking piano lessons have an instrument to practice at home - a keyboard is fine if an electric or acoustic piano is not available.

Students playing wind instruments will need to bring their own instrument and supplies (reeds, oil) to their lessons.

Students should rent or purchase an instrument prior to beginning lessons. If you are uncertain what brands are best I would be happy to provide assistance so please don't hesitate to ask any questions that you have before making a decision.

*****Parents and Guardians*****

Parents are welcome to run errands, take a walk, or stay in the car during lessons if that is their preference, just be sure to return on time.

There is a lazyboy and magazines for parents who like to stay for the lessons as well as a table and chairs for those that have work to do.

*** Specialties ***
Working with beginners of all ages.

Amy is so patient and supportive and always made my son feel special. I am truly grateful for everything she has done to help my son learn and understand music better. Thank you, Amy!
