Brandon B.

Durham, NC

Each lesson is customized to the wants and needs of the individual student. There is a basic level of drumming competency that all students will be required to reach before moving on to a more customized lesson plan; however, even beginner students lessons will be taught to their learning abilities.

About Brandon

I have 20 years playing and teaching experience. I have played in several ensembles ranging from Jazz to Metal. My focus in teaching is to bring out not just the drummer, but the complete musician residing within my students. My lessons go beyond technique and repetition, and really focus on developing a complete musical sense on the drum set. Along with drum set I also teach general percussion (snare and glockenspiel) and music theory. I have spent most of my playing and teaching career trying to learn as many percussive styles as possible. I have found that with each new rhythmic discovery my personal drumming style ebbs and flows, and through these experiences, my style has been refined. This excitement for drumming and rhythm is what I hope to inspire in my students; so lets start

Brandon has exactly what I was looking for in a drum set teacher. He tailors our lessons to my specific interests and needs but doesn't allow me to neglect my weaknesses, is extremely flexible in his scheduling from week-to-week, makes me want to practice all day after each weekly lesson, and is extremely knowledgeable. The way he teaches makes me think of the drum set as a musical instrument like any other, and he makes me want to learn more about it every week. I couldn't ask for a more qualified, intelligent, or inspiring teacher. 5 stars out of 5.

Gabriel A.

Carrboro, NC

In our lessons I will blend the teachings of my regimented academic percussive studies, the exploratory nature of my Pilates background, and the lessons I've learned from being an active artist to provide a well-balanced learning experience according your individual goals and potential.

My Schedule is very flexible. Contact me to work out any lesson times that may not be on my calendar.

About Gabriel

I'm a 23 year-old performing musician with 7 years of teaching experience. I'm an active member in the NC Triangle music scene as a performer and recording artist. I also teach Pilates, where I learned the value of self-awareness and balance, which is at the core of my teaching principles. I feel I have something to offer to all levels and ages and have found my method to be highly engaging for young children and beginners. :: My Home Studio :: I have a living room studio in Carrboro equipped with my band gear, making for fun multi-instrumental lessons! Recording gear and a powerful PA allow us to play to various audio tracks and record our own material. These tools are invaluable and key to my personal development as an artist. There are usually two kits set up (my band ...

I've collaborated on a number of musical projects with Gabe -- mixing, writing and recording in studios. He is extremely talented and has always been a pleasure to be around. I would definitely recommend him to my own students (I teach guitar in Durham), as his patience and ability to explain complicated ideas is excellent.

My son who is 13 took lessons with Gabriel and had a great experience. We were only able to pay for 30 minute lessons due to a tight budget, but none the less Gabriel used those short times to teach my son as much as he could! Putting his musical knowledge to use while incorporating things such as the importance and benefits of stretching your arm muscles before playing was very cool and useful, and I would highly recommend lessons with him to anyone considering drum lessons!

Derek H.

Raleigh, NC

-Teaching since 2010.

- My goal is to empower my students with the mindset of knowing the main roles in becoming a drummer which are keeping time & dynamics.

- Curriculum includes ear training, muscle memory and constant practice. Mastering the simple and then building from that foundation.

- Everyone has a rhythm inside of them and unique gifts. I strive to pull that out and help my students find what kind of musician they are, not what someone else is telling them they should be.

About Derek

Hi! My name is Derek and I have been playing music since I could grab pots and pans and play them with wooden spoons! I played trumpet and french horn middle school through high school. I have been playing drums for 11 years and cajon/djembe, etc for about 7. I have played acoustic guitar for 6 years and have played electric for 3. I absolutely love sharing and teaching and consider myself very down to earth. I try my hardest to explain everything I can in the simplest more practical way possible.

Lora B.

Raleigh, NC

I consider myself to be a "rhythm specialist" since I was classically trained in music, was the drum major of a competitive marching band in Charloote, NC, and have played in several rock bands. Let's do this!

About Lora

I taught writing and literature in four states across the U.S. for more than 15 years: all ages and levels from middle school to community college to graduate level university. I am currently beginning music (as early as age 4), so I am comfortable with a wide range of students. I am a classically trained pianist (since 5) and played alto sax in a competitive marching band and was the drum major! Before the age of 14, I had thre separate piano teachers with very distinctive styles. I continued my musical journey as an adult with two others- Lorenzo Smith, who played with the Rev. Al Green, and Tom Constantin, the first keyboardist for the Grateful Dead. Needless to say, my background is incredibly varied, which allows me to utilize unique methodologies for different students' needs. Let's
