Christopher S.

West Columbia, SC

About Christopher

Hello! My name is Christopher S. and I am a classical guitarist, composer, linguist, and experienced language and music teacher.

I am a recent graduate with a Masters of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. There I studied with the world-renowned guitarist Eliot Fisk who is a direct student of the legendary guitarist Andres Segovia.

Currently I teach over 20 students at a variety different of music schools as well as in my in my home studio. I give regular performances throughout the Boston area and around New England. I am also in the midst of completing my debut al
bum titled, "The Music of Italy and Spain for the Guitar."

I began learning music when I was nine on the piano, however by the time I turned twelve I discovered my passion for the guitar. I began by learning songs and playing in a band with some friends. This was the start of my amazing journey into music. I started with blues, rock, and pop music but I quickly moved into more complex genres such as funk and Jazz music.

In college I began my studies of the historically endless world of classical music. This is also when I began teaching. After earning my degree, from Humboldt State University in Northern California, I began working as a music teacher.

I was hired as the main music instructor at a private music school called the Upper Valley Rock School. There I gave group lessons and private classes in guitar, bass, drums, piano and recording equipment. There I grew my experience of teaching to kids of all ages as well as adults.

After working awhile, I realized that in order to better my skills and become the guitar teacher I wanted to be I had to travel abroad. I moved to Seville, Spain where for two years I studied the art of classical and flamenco guitar.

I studied with a international known Spanish guitarist named Francisco Bernier at the Conservatory in Seville for two years and gave private guitar lessons part time. During this time I was also teaching English as a second language to high school and middle school students. From traveling and spending so much time in Europe, I also developed and studied my love of languages and I became fluent in Spanish and Italian.

If you are interested in having lessons with me, please contact me and we can begin learning the art of making beautiful music or learning the beautiful languages of the world! "Hasta pronto!" "A presto!" and "Speak to you soon!"

Robert N.

West Columbia, SC

About Robert

As a lover of a broad range of styles of music and a guitar player since I was fourteen, I’ve developed an intense desire to share my knowledge with others. I started teaching friends formally in college and began professionally after graduating college. My approach is to get the student to learn guitar through the music that they love. I learn what music they like and then craft lesson plans using that information. With this approach, I can inject aspects of music that may sometimes seem more sterile into lessons without the student becoming overwhelmed. It’s important to me that students hav
e fun and enjoy playing their instrument so that they don’t become turned off to the process of learning.

She taught me back when she's a undergrad student in the University of Texas. She is probably the best teacher I have had lessons with. I had more than one teachers before studying with Ms. Chan since I am a really slow learner and its hard for me to pick up new things, but she is always able to find a way to help me understand the concept and patiently walk me through all the technique. I also like how she was able to find different approach when I am stuck on something. I highly recommend her if you want to build up your fundamental strong.
