Brian G. Evergreen Park, IL

About Brian

Hello, my name is Brian and I am currently studying my Bachelor's in Music Education at VanderCook College of Music. It is the only college in the world that specializes in specifically Music Education, and has been since 1909. The school teaches us a basic understanding of 17 instruments and voice, while also teaching theory, aural skills, music history, professional ed courses, and includes a large number of various ensembles. Because of this, I'm able to teach some basic concepts on all of the band/orchestra instruments. Personally, I started taking piano lessons in 2000 and started drum set lessons in 2002. I've always had a dual musician life after that point, and was apart of the band and jazz band programs from 5th grade until now (sophomore in college). While attending Marist High

This teacher has many great qualities in the field of music education.

I am learning a great deal from this teacher about the piano and life qualities in general. I have taken the tools I've learned from each lesson to apply in my own practice to develop myself as a musician. I would recommend Brian Goodman to anyone interested in learning about music.
Marissa V. Alsip, IL

About Marissa

I started my journey with singing in high school by participating in the school musicals and different choir ensembles. When I got to college I started taking private lessons and music classes for fun until I realized this is my passion. Then I started my journey with really learning the voice as an instrument and how it works. I am a vocal scientist at heart believing you will go a long way as long as you know how to grow. I then went on to get my degree at VanderCook College of Music where they teach nothing but music education so I was able to learn all the band and orchestral instruments on top regular classes and voice lessons. I took the time to study privately with our percussion professor to learn rhythms and with our sight singing and ear training professor to further ...

While my son has only taken a few lessons with Marissa, we highly value her instruction. She's prepared, focused, and personable. My son isn't only learning to sing a song. He's learning the art of vocal training. It's amazing to hear his development in only 3 lessons so far. Marissa is definitely a great teacher.

Nicholas is very accommodating to a student like me. While I have some background in piano, I'm lacking in key areas. Nicholas is able to tailor his lessons to my lopsided needs. He's also a great guy!

Dave is an exceptional teacher!

I am a beginner guitar player, Dave has been patient and kind at every lesson. This has been an inspiration and a great help for me to continue learning the guitar. I wanted to find a guitar teacher and not just a guitar player; his approach to teaching is outstanding. He has a love for music and a gift of being an excellent teacher. I always leave my lesson feeling good about my progress and inspired to continue learning to play the guitar. I recommend him for any player at any level; he he teaches good practice habits and is very knowledgeable of music theory and how to teach each person individually. It is rare to find someone knowledgeable in music and apply their knowledge to teaching. I was fortunate to find him!

He's awesome. :)

He makes learning the guitar so comfortable. He makes things easier to review and doesn't mind going over things you may have forgotten. If I could, I would get everyone I know to take lessons from him. I couldn't ask for a better teacher!

Let me begin by saying I have never EVER written a review for someone, nevertheless, had singing lessons. If you're looking for someone to expand your range, hit those high or low notes, make you laugh while subconsciously learning the material, make you comfortable while helping you reach you singing goal, and teach you strategies in singing-- Margo is definitely the person to do so. I am pleasantly impressed by her knowledge, singing, and teaching abilities. Definitely deserves more than five stars.

Miriam arrived right on time, prepared and ready to go. She worked with the space I had, and was very patient. As an adult beginner, learning something new can be intimidating, but she made the lesson very enjoyable. I'm looking forward to next week!

Our family cannot speak highly enough of Miriam-Rose and her talent and teaching ability. She is still, by far, our 10-year-old daughter's favorite IU student violin teacher. Miriam-Rose has such a gift for being an incredibly patient and supportive teacher, yet she is firm and affective in her corrections. Our daughter learned so much in just the short time she was instructed by her. She is such a caring, friendly and fun person with lots of energy, and you can tell she loves what she does by the way she teaches. She will be a blessing to any student she instructs. We have two other daughters that also know her from the ballet world and she is known there as well for her talent, teaching and friendliness, which I think speaks volumes for the individual that she is. She is just an all-around wonderful and talented person who also happens to be a very gifted teacher. Students of any age will learn so much from her! We so appreciate what she has done for our family!!

How to Improvise on Piano and Keyboard | Exercises for Beginners

Forgo the sheet music and try your hand at improvising! Get started with this exercise from Tucker, GA teacher Linda L...   Improvising, in music, is making up your own music on the spot. It is truly “playing with” music, in the more common sense of the word “play.” It’s fun, creative, and, well, playful. When it comes to piano improvisation, I tend to think of jazz, blues, and rock. Guitar Theory Basics: Understanding Keys
Curious about keys? Guitar teacher Alexander A. breaks down the guitar theory behind understanding keys... What key am I in? For most of the music we play this simple question yields a simple answer. I think the REAL question here is “why.” Why is a piece of music considered to be in the key of G major, or A minor, or any other key? I was in my 3rd semester of Jazz Harmony at Berklee when the instructor stumped the entire class with this question. I think the answer will surprise you. The
