Hello :) I have worked in farms and gardens since a young age. After my graduation from UCSC (which you can read more about in my bio), I was searching for a Master's program, however, I wanted something truly impactful because I was witnessing lots of disease and distress in the US culture. I decided on an Independent study MSc program with Gaia U, called "Integrative Ecosocial Design," in which I studied many of the most impactful and cutting-edge methodologies known to date that can help humans align and live in harmony with the natural environment. I have studied with top-notch professionals and have years of hands-on experience in the following fields: *Solar Energy: NABCEP certified solar energy practitioner from Cabrillo College Solari Center. Grid Alternatives Team Leader, volunteer to provide free solar energy systems for low income families in Central California. I went on to install private residential solar for some years. My partner is still a solar contractor and I still use solar for off grid applications etc. *Permaculture Design: I completed my first PDC (Permaculture Design Certification) from UPISF (Urban Permaculture Institute of San Francisco) in 2011. I went on to take a very different rural Rocky Mtn PDC at Sunrise Farms in Loveland, where I was also a course facilitator and studied with Joel Glanzberg of Terragenesis. Here I worked on a grass fed cattle farm and medium sized farm that fed the community. I was then a youth counselor and photographer for the "Sustainable Vocations for Youth" course at Quail Springs Permaculture Research Institute in Cuyama, the high desert of CA outside of Santa Barbara. Here I deepened my practice with Brad Lancaster, who wrote the textbooks on rainwater harvesting, and Art Ludwing, of Oasis Design, as well as Warren Brush and others. *Aquaponics: the cycling of water between fish and plants, using the fish waste as fertilizer; which is distinct from hydroponics because there are no fish present and usually the amount of fertilizer in the hydroponics systems would be fatal to fish. I worked with Jon Parr of Fish Net Aquaponics to help facilitate courses for his non-profit called Schoolgrown, where we built STEM integrated educational greenhouses at schools. From hobby to commercial, this is a great practice that is truly very productive! *Landscape and Property Management: I started out painting exterior houses during my undergraduate years, then went on to do some residential remodeling and landscaping work before my solar installing years. I decided on landscaping as a practice because it encapsulates soil, plants, gardening and more. I am versed in ornamental horticulture, indoor plants, greenhouse design and organic vegetable gardening. I currently work to manage high end properties in the Pebble Beach and Carmel areas. We specialize in drought tolerant systems where we strive to install rainwater catchment tanks and greywater as much as possible.
