I Teach beginner thru advanced. I have been teaching drums for 25 years. I teach all drum set styles and enjoy teaching students how to practice using their creative side of the mind. my philosophy is to show yo how you can be as good as you aspire to be.
I was inspired by drums at a very young age. My intro was playing along to the stereo hitting the floor with a unmatched pair of sticks. At age 12 I received a drumset and was able emulate some rock drumming style pretty fast. My learning hit a plateau soon after tho. My discipline for drum books and practice was very poor in the beginning. Attending Musicians Institute in 1987 was the starting point of my commitment to myself to improve and be the best player i can be. I Graduated from MI with Honors and started playing with bands and continued to practice many hours a day. By 1994 I was teaching 30 -60 students a week. I have maintained that schedule for 15 years. By 1997 I was playing live 2- 4 night a week every week for many years. I have played Thousands of shows in my career. Playing live is one of the best teachers.
I help students who want to play on stage, in front of a audience prepare for it. Another significant part of my education was studying the physiology of playing drums (or any musical instrument.) This had a major positive effect on my practice habits and i bring this info to my students in a "short and sweet" manner of explanation. I will give you the facts of improving on a musical instrument.
I also love the art of songwriting and been fortunate to win several songwriting awards with my band Cohesive in 2008, 2009 and 2010
*** Lesson Details *** One of my lessons styles is designed to get you playing from your imagination. Improvisation inspired by the sounds you are creating. In that process I will give you important information about how you earned the sound, so you can always be inspired to create. This can be a fun method for many people. Others students favor playing 2 drumsets at the class and like to rely on the visual aspects of learning.
I have studied the physiology of playing a musical instrument in detail. I like to sprinkle in the facts while we are learning a pattern or piece of music. This knowledge can greatly enhance your practice results. Students are Always welcome to share more specific things they are interested in working on. I enjoy teaching all drumset concepts including Linear style, Ghost Notes, compound stickings, double bass style, rudiments, rudiment applications, soloing, ostinatos. I have a few highly recommended method books that work very well. I also really like when students bring in a song they like. My teaching style is a laid back style but i do love to discuss and exercise strong discipline to students who are open to it. 3 months into lessons you can expect to be playing a number of different beats and song(s). I am very good at recognizing the way you are most comfortable learning. I also play piano and guitar and have access to both instruments at your lesson so we can jam when you want.
*** Studio Equipment *** Studio rooms: several drum kits, computer, recording gear, PA sound system Piano and Guitars. video taping lessons available

Michael is a fantastic drum teacher. He is an extremely talented drummer and is skilled in all genres of music, from rock to jazz to latin. As a teacher he is very patient and adjusts to my needs / preferences. He is able to explain in detail both the mental and physical aspects of drumming, which I love, and always has tons of suggestions for improving my skills, from improv to rudiment exercises to jamming along to songs. I’ve learned so much taking classes from Mike!!

He literally is the best teacher. Thorough, kind, organized and makes huge progress happen in such a a short time.
Olises N. began formally learning drums at age 12 when he attended Washington Irving Junior High School. Having received a strong musical foundation under the direction of Ms. Lynn Johnson-Lang, he went on to being accepted into the Hamilton Music Academy/Humanities Magnet school in Culver City. Under the direction of David Sears (Senior Director at The Grammy Foundation) and a "whose who" of visiting artists, Olises' basics were sharpened, his musical horizons expanded and his passion and admiration for teaching were fueled. Olises' first teaching experience was at a local high school where he was asked by the music director to teach a summer drums/percussion course. He continued to perform, travel, and record with many groups while attending Pasadena City College where he studied music theory, piano, classical percussio
n with Ken McGrath and further Jazz performance with the legendary Bobby Bradford. Today, Olises continues to enrich his students by bringing over 20 years of successful music instruction to every teaching session. His lessons are informed by his 25 plus years of professional performing and recording experience. Olises is not only an experienced drummer, but also a gifted, caring teacher with a passion and insight that has tangibly improved the playing of many aspiring and working drummers.
*** Lesson Details *** Olises customizes a curriculum for every student depending upon each student's individual goals. Whether it be reading, independence, or technique he will offer you insights that will help improve those areas. He chooses from a variety of techniques, exercises, and materials that he uses to build his curriculum for you. Many of his students have enjoyed marked improvements in their playing just after their first session! His style is as a matter of factual, positive and makes you feel like there's nothing you can't do!
*** Studio Equipment *** Music/recording studio w/ piano and drum kits and mics w/ seating for parents
*** Specialties *** I specialize in Jazz, Afro-Latin, Brazilian and Funk styles though I am familiar with many other styles. Aside from my own personalized methods I use and teach the Sanford Moeller and Billy Gladstone methods for technique and have learned to apply the Gary Chester method to my drumset playing.
Fantastic lesson!! Olises really broke down the strokes and took the time to make sure I understood the lesson's objectives. The lesson was at the perfect speed. Looking forward to next week's lesson.

Has a great deal of knowledge on overall music history and how percussion has developed through each of its stages. Appropriates style according to the interest of desired drummer and can demonstrate the relationships between student's preferred styles and how they relate to others. As a student this is very important because of its role in the development of ones own technique and style and how one can build on whats been done before.

my son is very happy and comfortable with his teacher and i am very pleased since this is his first time taking lessons.
I've been teaching drum set for 5 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to properly hold a pair of sticks and as time goes on you'll be able to effectively keep time, and play along to songs. I specialize in rock, fuck, pop, and blues drumming. In my lessons I typically us the instructional books Syncopation by Ted Reed and the Drummer's Bible by Mick Berry. At lessons I have two drum sets, drum pads, sticks, brushes, music stands, and various drum books. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and am excited to teach.
I have been playing and performing the drums for the past 10 years.
In a teaching situation I try and provide a relaxed and friendly environment in order to learn a students strengths and weaknesses. I want students to be able to learn at their own pace, and not to worry if they think they are not learning quickly enough.
I generally work as a for hire musician playing for various acts in the styles of rock, funk, blues, jazz, and even movie scores.
I have toured throughout California and have had the privilege to open for such artists as A Flock of Seagulls, Jennifer Leitham, Daniel Glass, and Jack Sheldon. I have recorded drums for movies including Stomp the Yard, and Obsessed; played with acts such as Big Dave LIttle, Brett Copeland, and Kenji Igus. I have played with such jazz musicians including Richard Simon and Roger
I attended the AVPA from 2006 to 2009 and have a degree in Psychology.
*** Lesson Details *** In the lesson setting I want the student to become as comfortable with the drums as possible. I like to maintain a relaxed environment, allowing the student to move at his or her own pace. This in mind, I believe the fundamentals are the most important to learn.
Students will first learn the basic hand techniques needed for accomplished drum playing, before moving on to more complex ideas behind groove, and feel. Reading music and keeping effective time will be emphasized in early lessons.
I also like to teach students that drums are a musical instrument that is typically played with other musicians. A student will learn how to play and interact well with other musicians in a variety of musical settings.
I use a combination of books for teaching including: Syncopation by Ted Reed The All-American Drummer by Charley Wilcoxon The Drummer's Bible by Mick Berry and Jason Gianni Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone I will also use various drum charts and exercises as well as the use of videos and recordings.
After 3 to 6 months a student will be able to read drum notation and rhythms at a competent level and will be able to play basic drum beats on the drum kit as well as have a basic understanding of how to play with other musicians in various styles of music.
*** Studio Equipment *** Equipment includes two drumsets, drum pads, sticks, and instructional material.
*** Travel Equipment *** Can bring drums if necessary, would prefer to bring a drum pad. Expect the student to have drums.
Our son learned so much with his music teacher. We are grateful for his patience

Danny is a great teacher - he's really patient and encouraging and my son adores his lessons and looks forward to them every week. Danny has a way of making him both take it seriously and also think he's having the most fun and is a natural. I high;y recommend him.
My name is Ray, I'm 31 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.
I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for approximately 16 years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it remaining a very important part of my life.
I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy.
*** Lesson Details *** My music lessons are unique for three main reasons:
1. I h
ave a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.
2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.
3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.
*** Equipment *** Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.
*** Specialties *** Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to listen to, study, and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy, for example, learning their favorite songs from the radio.
My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.
Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).
My daughter is loving her cello lessons with Ray even more than she expected. She feels she is really improving.

My son and daughter both take from Ray and they love him!!! My daughter started with him after she had had 2 other teachers and she improved immediately. She loves going to Ray because he teaches her to play the songs that she likes. Now she plays so many songs for memory!! My son loves going to piano and is always excited to see Ray.

Athan has taught drums for eight years, and strives to provide each student with exactly what they need to excel. He has extensive training, both from CSUN as a Jazz Performance major and performing around the world in various groups. From basic technique, to advanced technical and musical studies, his wealth of knowledge and experience will help you improve immensely. He teaches based on each individual student in order to provide you with the best and most fun learning experience.
Hello potential students, my name is Athan and I would love to be your new teacher! I have been teaching for over eight years, and love it as much as I love music itself. I have extensive experience in helping students reach their goals, becoming the best drummers and musicians that they can be. As a musician, I have been fortunate to study and play with some of L.A.'s top musicians, participating in the country's top student groups and receiving honors at many music festivals and competitions. The lessons I've learned from these great experiences I hope to pass on to you, the student, in order to help you get the most out of our lessons and to turn you into the best musician that you can be. Whether beginner or advanced, and any genre from jazz to rock to hip hop, I feel I have the knowledge to take your drumming and music-making to the
highest level (and of course, have a blast doing it!) I have a passion for teaching, and would love to have you as my student!
My experience spans over 25 years of performing and teaching every drumming style. Each lesson will include period of rudimental work, rhythm reading, and playing different styles behind the drum set. I believe in creating an environment that is focused on playing music well and where the student can have fun while gaining confidence. It is important to develop drummers into functional musicians with good technique, reading skills, and time. We will cover all styles of drumming from jazz to rock/pop, including funk, progressive, all of the Latin styles, even hybrid drumming and other percussion as desired.
My experience as a performer and teacher ranges from early music to today's rock and pop, including various percussion instruments from around the world. When studying for my bachelors and masters degrees in music, I did course work in music recording, jazz studies, and music history. In addition, I incorporate my knowledge of development, physics, and other sciences into my instruction. I can discuss playing music with beginners to professionals as we pursue opportunities in the music industry and education to develop functional musicians with creative outlets as students are able to explore any area or level of music. Some of my students have gone onto college music programs and high school programs such as OCHSA while others are enjoying playing music with friends. The goal is to take a student's excitement for music and percussion in
a direction that will feedback into more learning and a drive to explore more styles of music.
Mariano is excellent! He is firm yet patient and professional, and gets along really well with my son.
August 17, 2015
Mariano was an amazing percussion and drum set teacher. His lessons were engaging and productive, and he was always able to communicate an idea or musical concept in a way that I was able to understand and connect with. After about 2 years of lessons I was accepted into the Orange County School of the Arts for percussion and I owe my success to the lessons I took with Mariano. I continued lessening throughout high school and my skill level contined to grow. What I loved about Mariano's teaching was his unique ability to take very simple exercises and make them more difficult and therefore much more beneficial. Along with stressing the importance of basic technique, he would constantly inteoduce me to new things - Afro beats, traditional grip, Latin beats, new ways to sight read, and 4 mallet marimba technique. I would highly suggest taking lessons with Mariano if you are looking for a fun, encouraging teacher who has lots of experience with a variety of percussion performance!

Very very understanding and had a great way of teaching each lesson. Also, friendly and very supportive!
Playing drums has always been close to my heart. I want to help you find your voice behind the kit, and to share this special craft with you. From beginning drummers to advanced level players, I will help you learn to express yourself on this miraculous instrument. We will have a LOT of fun doing it.
My name is Blaire and I’ve been drumming for 20 years. I was trained in a traditional fashion in Kansas where I grew up, and decided I wanted to teach this passion to others. I can teach you to read music and equally to let loose and fly around the drums with ease. My strengths are rock drumming, jazz, marching snare, and countless smaller percussive voices. My experiences in performing and teaching have taken me all over this country in the form of touring with different bands. Let me teach you to find your voice on this amazing instrument.
"David taught me since 2011. He is the most handsome, serious, responsible teacher I ever had. He helped me become a well-round musician rather than just a
percussion player. To be honest, he is the most suitable teacher for me."
"Passionate about drums; reflected in his teaching
Lou took me by surprise after the first few lessons. His preference is to teach the foundation and basi
cally build up from there. This sort of put me off at first because I wanted to learn a specific genre without all the extras that I thought I didn't need. Fortunately, he was able to help me understand that by learning all of the simple rudiments, I can play anything I want. Now, I haven't reached that stage yet, but I have no doubt that I can get there with Lou's help."
"Will is a great instructor. Highly recommend."
"Very friendly and personable teacher. Patient with our son while also encouraging him to learn. He has a great balance of all the attributes to make up a
wonderful teacher. Most importantly, he makes lessons fun while at the same time teaching and helping our son learn and grow."
"Wes is patient, kind, and a joy to be around. He is knowledgeable with drums, music theory, and all things percussion!"
"ALEX IS THE BEST! He’s actually become a friend of
The families but stil prefessional."
"Relaxed, novel lesson that has kept me thinking."
"Bobby's a very enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable drummer who also knows how to teach well. Often times musicians don't always know how to teach their
craft, talented as they may be, but Bobby certainly knows both how to play and how to teach. I'd recommend him to anyone wanting to learn or brush up on their drumming skills."
"Totally awesome cool! Danny teaches kids drums from first time to having fun playing real songs in just a few lessons. Thank you for making learning fun
Taking special precautions and caring for your instrument is important for all musicians - just taking a few minutes to clean your guitar, for example, can ensure a longer life of strumming and jamming.
Similarly, taking good care of your drum set is an important habit to keep up. Too many drummers forget the importance of keeping their drum set clean, and tend to pack up their equipment carelessly. Cymbals, especially, are easily forgotten during this process. Taking a few minutes to c …
