In my private violin/viola studio, I am helping my students to love the learning process. If a student wants to play an instrument for their enjoyment, he comes to me. If students have ambitions to get prepared for the test or audition, they know they will get help. For students who would like to prepare for the evaluating test, I contribute to preparing for the ABRSM (Associated Board of School of Music abrsm.org) exams. If a student is a beginner, I teach using the Suzuki Method.
I love helping students to achieve what they want. By learning their abilities, I help them to enjoy playing an instrument.

Because I studied abroad — across three continents (Australia, UK, USA), I have a more worldwide perspective on violin performance practice. I also bring a flexible approach to my discipline, since my focus in classical music encompasses both traditional and modern repertoire. I am very intimate with the art of performance, as I am an avid recitalist and collaborator.
I was a Teaching Assistance/Fellow at UCLA for three years, and I have taught privately for the better part of a decade. The main tenet in my pedagogical philosophy has always been to allow a student to express their own voice, and to cultivate the discipline around their unique expression.
About Xenia
I am a violinist originally from Sydney, Australia. I graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium with a Bachelor in Music Performance, a Masters from the Royal Academy of Music, London, and a Doctorate from UCLA. As a performer, I have performed in Australia, New Zealand, China, UK, Europe, and USA.

I'm a classically trained Suzuki violin/viola teacher and although I teach classical technique, sight reading, orchestra coaching etc, I also specialize in pop/rock violin, bluegrass, country and folk music, as well as musical improv! I also play and teach mandolin, ukulele and voice, and I love to customize music lessons to fit the individual interests of each student. If you're interested in a multi-faceted approach to music and strings instruction in particular, I'm your gal! I also teach music theory and songwriting.

Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

Ms. Brown is professional and kind, which is a wonderful way to learn a new skill like playing the violin. My daughters were taught by her years ago as young children and then we lost track of her. When we found her on TakeLessons, we signed up, willing to drive miles for her instruction. She is thorough, clear in instruction and so even tempered. What a great teacher!"

We feel, through Yakov's artistry, he inspires the kids to approach their music as musicians, not just music students."

In my case, I wanted to learn classical Persian music. Dr. Oyenard was skilled and patient enough to help me do so. During the years that I was Dr. Oyenard's student, I learned more about violin and performance than ever before.
Dr. Oyenard is an outstanding virtuoso and a thorough resource for any scholar of music and violin."

Popular Violin Articles from our Blog
All musical instruments require attention and maintenance. When it comes to the violin, however, it is easy to forget that the bow needs as much care as the instrument itself. After all, the way you treat your violin bows will affect the way the violin sounds. If too much resin builds up on the hairs, for example, the sound will come out wrong. While it may not be as costly to repair or replace violin bows, why waste money when it’s easy to keep your violin bows in good working condition? …
