I have been teaching the bass for about 20 years. My intention is to teach the student his/her role as a bass player, starting with the foundation of locking in with the drummer while supporting the harmony and melody. Knowledge of the notes on the fret board is essential, as well as the basics of theory (understanding of music). As a guitarist, I can teach you songs and jam with you so you can get hands on experience of what is like to learn from a bassist and...jam with a guitarist! Learning an instrument should be fun as well as informative.

About Anthony
As a third generation musician, I've been playing professionally and teaching for over 25 years. I've had years of private lessons, graduated from GIT in Hollywood, taken college music courses and continue to perform, record, and teach music. YOU can have fun, learning songs that YOU like, or you can learn music theory (the explanation of music) or study different styles from rock to pop to hard core to blues, funk etc. All at YOUR pace. Many of my students, started from the point where they had never picked up an instrument and have gone on to tour or earn full music scholarships. It doesn't matter if it's a young girl wanting to learn some Disney Artist or some burly blue collar worker wanting to learn some Clapton: YOU can have fun learning guitar while improving at a rapid rate. Contact me, I'll make learning music and guitar a
very painless process.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm serious and passionate about my students learning their instrument and becoming great musicians, however, I also want it to be an enjoyable process. You should look forward to your lessons but know I'm going to expect you to practice as well. I use a combination of my own curriculum and books that are based on the fundamentals of music. We can learn to read tablature or read traditional music. A excellent way to pick music at a quick pace is by learning songs in the style you like, while learning about the keys, scales, arpeggios, and chord construction once you're able to play some songs. After 3 or 6 months you will be playing a basic repertoire of songs that interest you while continuing to progress at a steady pace in the understanding of music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
North County Rehearsal Studio is a rehearsal hall with private lesson room, we have the amps to plug into and audio equipment so we can listen and learn from the music YOU like!!!  I can also come to YOUR house if the rehearsal located in Brea is too far.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to have a guitar or bass so they can practice at home with. I could bring or provide a small practice amp and a music stand and some study materials. I teach in Orange County and I live in L.A County so If I need to come to your house I can cover a big area.

*** Specialties ***
During the course of my 20 plus years of teaching, I have had to teach individuals of all levels. I have had to teach little girls Hanna Montana, and blue collar workers--Eric Clapton. Styles include, Rock, Pop, Metal, Jazz, Rockabilly, Country, Spanish, Beginning Classical and ETC!

About Jonathan
I am a graduate of the Wheaton Conservatory of Music with a B.Mus.degree in Piano and Composition, and have taught private piano and drum lessons for over 10 years. I have experience with children and adults of all ages. I've performed with many bands over the years (US and Europe) including Mavis Staples, Andrew Bird, Tim Booth, Mucca Pazza, Bobby Conn, The Detholz, and Paris Delane.

My approach to teaching is fun and varied according to students needs and personalities. I teach reading, ear training, theory, technique, composition, song writing, performance, etc...and want to work with students on music that THEY want to learn.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha full sized digital piano
Fender Jazz Bass
Fender Stratocaster Guitar
Recording computer with Komplete 6, Ableton, etc.
Rode NT1 Condensor mic
Shure SM57's, Shure Bet
a 52
Bell set
Melodica's

*** Travel Equipment ***
For in home lessons, it's important that students have the instrument(s) that we're working on; this could be a snare drum, an electric keyboard, piano, bass guitar and practice amp, etc.

*** Specialties ***
For young kids on piano, I've worked a lot with a couple of things, including James Bastien and Piano Adventures books, simple transcriptions of songs students know and want to play, simple ear training games, and things like 5 finger scales.

For older students, i get them into a more disciplined routine with exercises and theory, but also cater repertoire to their interests. My playing background is pretty broad, including classical (in the broad sense of the term) study and performance (recital and competition), and rock and roll, blues, jazz performance.

I get excited about teaching composition, songwriting, and any higher level theory.

Drummers get the rudiments, independence practice, style study, reading, transcription, etc. I do lots of hands only work, but incorporate full kit playing as early as possible knowing that for a kid (or adult for that matter), sitting behind a drumkit is a very exciting thing and you wanna play it all. As with piano, i do transcriptions of favorite songs/beats for students often. My background on drumset and percussion is broad as well, from orchestral to rock and metal to jazz and big band, etc.

in general, i like to know what music my students are into, and will try to include material in those realms in their studies.

A talented musician and teacher, who is genuinely responsive to his students' needs.

My son took piano lessons from Jon at a time when he wanted to experiment with different types of musical expression. Jon was extremely responsive to his needs, and worked with him on everything from improvisation, to jazz licks to a Brahms ballade. Jon understands that teaching music is not a "one-size-fits-all" endeavor, and draws on his wide range of musical experience to tailor a program that's right for your child. He is an extremely talented musician and a dedicated, caring teacher.

Jon is superb

My stepson took drum lessons with Jon for at least three years. I was impressed with my kid's progress on his drum set. Jon is so passionate about music, and I could see my son really connect to Jon easily. Jon was very available to discuss schedule changes and is a very nice down to earth guy. I highly recommend him.

Amazing teacher and all around phenomenal artist!

I took lessons from Jon for over 8 years, twice a week, including Jazz/Blues piano, voice, theory, and even drums. Let me first say that Jon is an all-around amazing artist that can master many instrument or genre of music. Taking lessons with him was something I looked forward to every week. He was an expert in all things jazz and blues, and really explained the theory and techniques well. I learned so much from him over those years that I can never repay. Unfortunately, he moved away to Cali, and I have not yet found a replacement that even comes close. I highly recommend Jon for music lessons in any instrument.

Bass guitar is one of the most underrated roles in music. Many musicians, even bass players, keep bass too simplified by not exploring what it has to offer. I'm looking for that student who is a true beginner and has no identity in music yet or maybe the student who rocks out with his/her band and just wants a new edge. I teach bass players theory, how to play tight pocket grooves, and how to fly all over the fretboard to enjoy the simple but provocative instrument. I will teach you how to be the perfect compliment to your band, play solo and fill up space, as well as be the lead instrument if desired.

About Jeremiah
Hello, My name is Jeremiah and I'm excited to be your teacher. Music has been in my blood since birth. I come from a family of singers and performers. I started my musical journey as boy singing in choirs. In middle school I picked up the saxophone, in high school I started guitar, and I've been playing the keyboard all along the way. At this time I perform in churches, conventions, coffee shops and public events using my voice, guitar and keyboard. Music is my passion and teaching music is the way I can contribute to this generation.

What I can offer you is the ability to play or sing any song you want within a few short lessons and all popular music in a little as six weeks. Even though teaching music is what I do I love to connect with people in general. There are principles in music that can be used in life : diligence, self-worth
, pride, and focus are just a few. I'm looking forward to meeting you and helping you meet your goals. Thanks for stopping by!!!

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a very easy going person. I like to wear a smile and have fun. With that being said, you can expect me to politely influence a student to go the extra mile. I do make things clear when it comes to practicing and effort but you'll be happy finding out how easy that can be. In 6 weeks you can expect a student to be playing full songs in different keys and vocalists to become more comfortable with the vocal instrument they were born with. Thereafter, is entirely up to what a student wants to do with their talent. Within 3 to 6 months a student should be comfortable playing or singing in front of a family crowd or even publicly.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have keyboards, guitars, basses, plenty of chairs, rooms, whiteboards and amps. Bring a notebook and mobile device.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Instrument (guitar or keyboard) and amplifier (if electric). Writing paper.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in worship music, gospel, alternative rock, pop, fusion, r&b, motown, neo-soul and jazz. Using the circle of 5ths as well as the number system I've been able to teach students how to play any song they want in any key on their own.

I have taught all levels of bass for the last 15 years. I specialize in walking lines, reading, and improv. I teach all pop styles...rock, R&B, blues, jazz, country, funk and slap.

I can teach reading, theory and technique.

I am very patient and adjust areas of study to fit my students goals.

About Kimberly
I started playing music around the Kansas City area twenty five years ago. I graduated from The University of Southern California with a degree in studio/jazz guitar (cum laude). While at USC, I received a merit scholarship and an award for professional leadership and service within her department. I also graduated with honors from Musicians Institute (GIT), of Hollywood, CA.

I have toured the U.S. and Canada playing venues such as The Portland Rose Festival, The Playboy Jazz Festival, The Santa Monica Twilight Concert Series, Irvine Lake Blues Festival,The Burnaby British Columbia Blues Festival and the Long Beach Blues Festival. The headliners at these events included Robben Ford, The Neville Brothers, and Johnny Winter.

I have released two solo CD's that have received first-rate reviews, as well as international airplay. Af
ter the second CD, I was biographied for AMG (All Music Guide) the internet's first source for music information. Here are excerpts from the AMG bio:

... there are also elements of Jimi Hendrix (arguably the first true heavy metal/hard rock artist), Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan in her playing, and she clearly has a strong appreciation of jazz--not only jazz-rock fusion improvisers like John Scofield, Larry Coryell and Mahavishnu Orchestra founder John McLaughlin, but also, straight-ahead bop favorites such as Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass.......eclectic outlook is one of her strong points; her ability to move from a tough, aggressive blues-rock groove to a more cerebral, fusion-minded approach to the occasional soul-jazz/hard bop number has made for some very unpredictable albums.

I have been teaching full-time for the past 15years. I have taught all ages and popular styles. In 2008, my blues guitar method was published and distributed through Amazon.

*** Lesson Details ***
I incorporate a tailored curriculum to help people achieve their personal goals. Learning music is not a "one-size fits all" proposition. I can show you the songs that you want to play. I can also teach you music theory, technique, improvisation, reading and more. I adjust your course of study according to your areas of interest. If you are dying to learn a Led Zeppelin tune, or are planning on auditioning for a college level jazz guitar program, I can help you achieve these goals. I have taught hundreds of beginners along side more advanced students. My students have gone one to study music at GIT, Fullerton College, Pasadena City College, Berklee, Cal State LA, and USC.

Most of all, I am extremely patient. The ability to playing a musical instrument is measure on a calendar, not on a watch. I often work at a slow, systematic pace. I am generally very laid-back. On the other hand, if you learn very quickly, I can readily show you the skills you need to meet your goal. I have fast-tracked many individuals that were seeking admittance to an academic program.

My teaching studio is computer equipped. This allows me to incorporate computer software that enhances learning. One such program, Band in a Box, generates accompaniment for students so that they can work on their soloing skills. Another program can slow recorded music down so that the student can practice slowly with it. Also, I often give out play-along practice CDs for improved learning.

The aspect of performance is often not addressed by many. I am able to work with my guitar students while accompanying by performing live bass or drum parts, or work with bass students while playing the guitar or drum parts. This allows the student to understand his or her roll in an live band.

*** Studio Equipment ***

I have taught quite a few bass students even though I am primarily a guitarist. I have years of experience playing myself and have been bassist in various bands.

I have a deep knowledge of the fretboard and music theory so if you want to learn the neck better I can help you out. My specialties are Pop, Blues, and Jazz.

If you like blues, we will learn to play a song pretty much the first day and then we learn theory, different riffs, and more songs as we go on. We also can work on improvisation and accompanying other instruments.

If Jazz is your focus, we will start doing some blues as that is fundamental and you can learn songs fast. Then we'll branch out into arpeggios and some theory. After that we apply the theory to actual jazz standards and learn how to create cool bass lines over chord changes.

If you want to do pop/learn songs you love, I will help you learn good technique and we'll learn things on a song by song basis.

No matter what style you want to ...

Jaxon the Guitarist: I am a Doctoral Guitar Major at USC studying classical guitar. I have been playing the guitar for over 20 years and teaching for 15. My main style is classical, and due to the technical training I have had since I was very young, it has been very easy for me to learn and master other styles such as Flamenco, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Country. I have a passion for performing and have played hundreds of solo and ensemble concerts. As a classical performer I have won prizes in numerous competitions, including the Pacific Guitar Competition, San Francisco Guitar Competition, Sierra Nevada Competition, and the OSAA Oregon State Competition. I have played concerts all over the United States as well as in Spain and Mexico. As a performer of other styles I have played in many orig

I recently won a Fulbright Scholarship to study Spanish and Flamenco Guitar in Seville, Spain for 2015 and 16.

Jaxon the Teacher: I really love spreading the knowledge I've learned over the years about the guitar, bass guitar, songwriting, music theory, and everything music related to my students. I find a huge sense of fulfillment in seeing my students understand and enjoy learning and making beautiful music. I have a high level of knowledge and skills that I am very willing to use to teach students from the most beginner to the most advanced. Former students of mine have achieved lofty goals ranging from making it into a music program at the college level to winning their school's talent show to being accepted into their school's jazz band.

About Brian
Brian discovered his talent and passion for teaching while still in college, and has been teaching guitar and piano in Southern California for over 20 years. Gifted at teaching students of all ages and abilities, he combines patience, creativity, imagination and boundless enthusiasm with solid professional training and experience. Brian also has over 10 years experience teaching piano and guitar to blind and autistic students.

A lifelong musician, Brian received his first musical training at the age of 4 and 5 years when his actor/singer Dad and musically talented Grandma taught him to sing and play the mandolin. He began piano lessons at age 5, and formal guitar instruction at the age of 10 years.

By the time he was a 14-year-old high school student, Brian was performing as lead guitarist in rock bands around Southern California
, developing mastery of rock guitar and blues performance and improvisation. Brian went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University, Los Angeles.

Passionate about all kinds of music, Brian's studies include choral music and conducting, Gregorian chant (at the Monastery of St. Pierre de Solesmes, France), and Master Classes with Andrés Segovia and Christopher Parkening. In 1984, he participated as a member of the Honor Choir for the ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which included recording of original music by Philip Glass for the Olympic Games under the direction of David L. Wolper and Mr. Glass.

As a jazz guitarist, Brian continues to grow musically in association with his colleagues of the Naomi Jazz Group, and other close musical friends who include students of the late, great Ted Greene.

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

• the uniqueness of each student;
• the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
• the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
• the development of musicianship through performance.

EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE:
My first interest with each new student is to discover how he or she learns, and then to apply appropriate teaching techniques to maximize their potential. I gear my lesson plans to the individual and strive to optimize the learning potential of the student.

ENJOYMENT MAXIMIZES LEARNING:
In a lesson with me you can expect to never be bored, to laugh a lot, learn a lot, be positively engaged emotionally and challenged intellectually. I believe that learning is maximized when the student is enjoying the experience, and is faced with challenges appropriate to their skill level. I aim to make learning music fun, choosing musical selections to learn in the style and genre that relate to the student's interests and aspiration.

TECHNIQUE & UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC THEORY TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE:
When my students perform in concerts, recitals, juries, auditions, recording sessions or simply for friends and family, they have self-confidence because they know precisely the "how" and "why" of everything required to perform well. My goal with students is to build a solid foundation in instrumental technique and thorough understanding of Music Theory at their appropriate level.

PERFORMANCE:
On a monthly basis, all my students practice performing pieces they are working on during the lesson time, with family/friends as an audience if desired and appropriate, and/or using digital recording to help the student develop a critical ear for their own playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, guitar/s and guitar stands, Dynarelle cushion, footrests, Korg 88 fully--weighted digital keyboard, Zoom H4 digital recorder.

As well, I have guitars and equipment both for teaching and performance of various styles, as below. Students will have the opportunity to learn about, play and become familiar with any of these instruments/equipment according to their interests and skill levels.

GUITARS:

CLASSICAL: Ramirez Model 1A Classical (professional concert level instrument)
Cordoba (teaching/practice instrument)
Hohner Acoustic (electric)

ROCK: Fender Stratocaster (pre-CBS)
Shechter Omen6
Shechter Elite Series C1

FOLK: Martin (steel string)
Dobro

JAZZ: Oscar Schmidt by Washburn (hollow body electric)
Gibson SG (electric)

OTHER EQUIPMENT:

AMPS: Fender Twin reverb
Pevey practice amp
Rock amp

Boss GT8 Effects Pedal

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar stands, guitar/s, Zoom H4 digital recorder. Generally I do not transport my Korg 88 keyboard to the student's home for lessons, but I can if necessary. However, I do require that piano students have their own piano/keyboard or at least reliable access to one for practice between lessons.

Guitar students should also have their own guitar. I can advise on appropriate instruments and can help students find a suitable guitar for their learning level and price range.

My fingers are more and more flexible. My idea of learning piano was to do so, in order to play for me and maybe one or two more people. I've learned with Brian that even if that is the case, I must still handle myself, as if I am going to be part of a band. This is teaching me the importance of counting and keeping the rhythm for me and for others. It basically helps me to have a structure. Thank you Brian

I just finished a series of online upright bass lessons with Dr. Norman. It's wonderful to have a lesson without toting the bass around town. Dr. Norman is impressive in skill and knowledge. There was nothing musically he didn't know, couldn't explain, or demonstrate on the bass. He has a keyboard at hand to play chords or emphasize a particular key, and he is proficient on that too. Mike is an amazing teacher and a super talented musician! He's incredibly knowledgable, patient, and encouraging. He made me feel comfortable from the very first lesson, and every week I look forward to learning more from him and improving my guitar skills. I highly recommend Mike as a guitar teacher.

Mike is a fantastic teacher who is knowledgable, kind and patient with my sons. He has a very easy-going teaching style which allows them to feel at ease and more ready to learn. I highly recommend him as a piano teacher, and I have also heard from friends that he is an excellent guitar teacher.

Mike tailors every lesson to my skill level and needs on any given day. He always leaves me with something new to work on. He is sensitive to my musical tastes and often suggests songs and chord progressions he thinks I will enjoy practicing.
Mike is a talented player and teacher, with a deep appreciation for the many styles and genres of guitar playing. A lesson with him feels like jamming with a friend. I highly recommend him as a teacher.

I can teach you all the funnest bass riffs and show you how to make your own bass lines and jam in several styles. I can also show you how to use your ear so you can jam along to whatever music you hear!

About Mike
I've studied piano and other instruments for 30 years, have been teaching music for 20, and have been a full time professional musician and music teacher for 11 years.

As a musician who was raised on classical piano but has also spent his life playing in bands, jamming, and composing in several genres, I believe that a well-rounded musical education is not only practical, but that it brings out the most enjoyment in music.

I also believe in teaching students whatever they love whether it's classical, rock, pop, jazz, world music, or a mix of everything! The more they love it, the more they will practice, and in turn the more they will love how they have improved - a circle of awesomeness!

As a professional musician, I play over 130 shows a year throughout North America as lead singer-guitarist for Celtic Rock group The Whiskeydicks, a
s the touring pianist for classical crossover group Vivace, as a solo singer-guitarist-pianist, and as the lead singer-guitarist-pianist-composer for my own symphonic-rock-fusion group, The Living. I've also toured extensively in Europe as keyboardist and backing vocalist for singer-songwriter Melanie Dekker.

My compositions have been performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The Plastic Acid Orchestra, Turning Point Ensemble, Ad Mare Wind Quintet, Vivace, The Living, The Whiskeydicks and cellist-singer-songwriter Cris Derksen.

I have a B.Mus in Piano and Music Composition from The University of British Columbia. I'm an IVA Certified Level I Voice Instructor and have studied Vocals with John Henny, Jeffrey Skouson, Guy Babusek, and Spencer Welch; piano with Terence Dawson, David Vandereyk, and Ross Taggart; composition with Dorothy Chang, Keith Hamel, and Armanini; drums with Jay Deachman and Morgan Childs; bass with David Spidel; and accordion with Jelena Milojevic.

I've just moved to LA from Vancouver where I had about 40 students, so this is the time to sign up as I have room for new students for the first time in years!
