About Ariel
Hi! My name is Ariel. Thank you so much for looking at my profile. Here is some information about my educational background, performance career, and how I believe I benefit students.

I was heralded as an “impressive young
discovery” by the Los Angeles Times in 2010 when I made my operatic debut with Long Beach Opera as Nancy T’ang in Adam’s Nixon in China. I have performed roles such as Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen, First Woman in Cherubini’s Medea, Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Giovanna in Verdi’s Rigoletto. I have been a soloist with the Blackbird Music Project, and I regularly collaborate with composers in the Southern California area. I was a fourth place winner in the Palm Springs Vocal Competition and am an OperaWorks alumna. I have a Masters degree from the University of
Southern California, Thornton School of Music and I have a Bachelors degree from Northern Arizona University. I also completed a teaching internship at the California Lutheran University.

My style of teaching is tailor made for each student because everyone has different goals and needs. I focus on making singing fun and painless while setting a strong technical foundation. My goal for the student is to take away technical issues so they can be musically expressive and show the world who they are.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher. My hope is that students will feel improvement in their lessons and it will motivate them to practice. In my opinion, the lessons should be fun, educational, and safe.

My curriculum is based on the needs of the student. In general, I always begin with breathing techniques. Breathing is the foundation of singing and so I tend to spend some time trying to show the student the most efficient and most effortless technique. Then I move on to what I have learned from my own voice teacher, and I will teach the students what are called "vocal function exercises." These are a series of gentle warm ups that teach the student a combination of breath pressure, resonance, and eliminating physical tensions within the neck, chest, and back. Then I move on to incorporating these ideas into repertoire. I like to decide repertoire with the student based on their preferences and their skill level. Generally I like to give the student one classical piece in a foreign language and one musical theater piece, but this is not set in stone.
I hope that after a few months the student will have an understanding of breathing, beginning vocal technique, and some repertoire we have been working on.

All of this said, ultimately I do not hold students to my own expectations. I want them to learn at their own pace and not feel they need to be at a certain point after a certain amount of time.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room. Keyboard. Seating for parents. Cats.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide sheet music and I expect the student to provide a keyboard or piano.

*** Specialties ***
I teach a method that is very simple and allows the student to express themselves musically and to have fun.

My expertise is Opera but I can teach all styles of singing.

I have been in the creative industry since I was a child. I have been singing since I came out of the womb! And doing photography since high school. I am now in front and behind the camera as an actress/on camera host, and I am a professional photographer/videographer. I have behind the camera for companies such as VH1, MTV, Fuse TV, and the New York Post. In front of the camera, you have probably seen me in films such as Relativity Media's, "Act of Valor," "Baby Mama" (Opp Tina Fey/Sigourney Weaver), and Chris Rock's "I Think I Love my Wife." My experience both in front and behind the camera compliments each other as I understand what is needed for both positions. I try to keep my lessons informative and fun! -- Anything can be achieved if you take your time and you really want it.

I teach both in front and behind the camera :

She sends an email and get a basic understanding of what your goals are what type of equipment you're planning on using and if she is unfamiliar with you for particular camera she does her research and is prepared to answer you any of your questions. I would recommend taking photography classes from her, I intend to continue taking lessons from Drea she is a treasure trove of knowledge.

Aaron was quite a good coach. I accomplished all my objectives. However, i live in Ventura and the lessons are in Los Angeles so the distance is too far for me. Therefore, i won't be signing up with "take lessons" for additional lessons.

Aaron is punctual, courteous, and incredibly knowledgeable. He directed lessons to address what I wanted to learn, but always made sure to bring practice materials and blank sheet music for the days I wanted to leave the curriculum in his hands.

His extensive education is crucial to his understanding of theory and composition, and with all his insight he was able to help me parse out my own pieces so that I could flesh out my own arrangements.

I not only received the guitar training I signed up for, but also invaluable teachings regarding gear, composition, theory, and performance. There was never a question I had that Aaron couldn't help me with.

He's an excellent teacher and an excellent person.

Dance has played a strong role in my life for 30+ years. I am a professional dancer/choreographer. I love teaching both children and adults who have no rhythm at all but with a heart to dance, to dancers who are professionally trained. I enjoy bringing out of them laughter at themselves when they make a mistake, but instal in them when to take it seriously.

I bring very strong, professional and confident choreography to both all ages and levels of a dancer from beginners to advance. I have been working and teaching youth from ages 4 to adult for over 17 years. I additionally have training in tap, jazz, ballet, modern, african, lyrical, cheer tumbling, and competitive Hip Hop/Break choreography. I am as well a self motivator and a self discipline woman. It doesn’t stop there. I am a good candidate for a long term teacher and dancer with
so much loyalty and patience for students.

If you need choreography with formal events, such as weddings, bday parties, quinceaneras etc I'm your girl! I have a blast working those events.

I have a BM from Appalachian State University in piano performance and music theory/composition. I also have an MFA in music composition for the screen from Columbia College Chicago. I studied abroad in Ireland for a summer and learned traditional Irish music. I've been playing piano and composing since I was a young child, and picked up folk instruments along the way. Folk music has been a constant source of joy in my life, and I am continually learning more about it. Music is what gets me out of bed in the morning!

I have been teaching and coaching for over a decade.

I live in Los Angeles and work professionally as an actor in theatre, film, and television.

I have an MFA from the American Conservatory Theatre. With my PhD research at the California Institute of Integral Studies (funded by The Esalen Institute) I explored a distinct teaching approach that focuses on cultivating the extraordinary capacities of great actors.

I have taught at The American Conservatory Theatre, The Berkeley Repertory School of Theatre, The Theatre of Arts, Naropa University, and privately.

I love the creative process of teaching, and I teach primarily through caring relationship to my students.

We can meet online or in person. I have a huge library of resources to support you with. I also will often record our lessons so you can listen or watch them

James Wagner is actually the best teacher of creative work I've ever had in any field, and as a writer/ filmmaker/ musician dude, I have had a lot! His teaching is rigorous, passionate, and results-driven, while remaining flexible and sensitive at the same time. His knowledge of acting and theatre theory is endless. He is always trying to expand the possibilities in his classes, bringing in guest speakers, and facilitating unexpected exercises. He is also an inspiring, warm hearted person. Kate and I started a theatre company with actors we all met in his classes, so that should tell you something. I honestly would not be the same person had I not encountered his generous vision of acting and theatre. You cannot go wrong by having him as a coach or teacher.

I met James when I took his class at Berkeley Rep (Eugene O'neill scene studies). I immediately knew he was the kind of Acting coach I'd want to train me, the level of professionalism and high standards is invaluable. During a short trip to LA, I met with James for a 3 hours coaching in which we created a 3 year plan to go from Student actor to working actor this was followed up with some online (Skype) sessions. Next I took another scene study with James at Berkeley Rep in which we workshopped Contemporary plays, James in a kind, professional way was able to push me to the level he knew and expected his students to be. And recently I took an Actor's retreat end of last year, again I left the retreat so inspired and motivated. I can tell you now that I have been in a few Theatre productions, I have and continue to meet the goals we set out for me sooner than what we had mapped out. I couldn't have done it without James vast knowledge of acting and motivation. I highly recommend you study with James!

I've studied with James in both a workshop context, and one-to-one on-line. Both were very valuable and enjoyable experiences. James is a very skilled actor, a very learned man, and an insightful teacher and director. Each element of his teaching is a different expression of a life that is clearly committed to his art as an actor. I found working with him to provide a deep new view of the playwright we studied (Albee in our case), and a very supportive guide to my personal work as an actor. I can highly recommend him.

Enzo learned B-boy dancing from the greats. Growing up in NYC he watched some of the best break dancers in the business.
