I started playing the clarinet when I was in 4th grade, and I still have the same instrument!

I've been teaching clarinet for over 30 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to assemble your instrument, place your reed correctly, and know where your fingers go. As time goes on you'll be able to read music and play simple songs. Any beginning clarinet book will get us started. In addition to your clarinet and book, you will also need extra reeds, cork grease, and a cleaning swab. As you progress, a a metronome may be helpful. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play a few folk songs and as time goes on you'll be able to treble clef fluently. I specialize in classical music, typically use traditional band method books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: metronome, and laptop. I began playing clarinet over 12 years ago and have been passionate about it ever since. I have taught music, as well as performed solos, duets, quartets, concerts, and more. I have a minor in music and have won scholarships for performance. As a teacher, I know how to make reading and playing music accessible and successful for all!

I am dedicated to helping students improve on their instrument and work toward their own personal goals. All ages and all levels are welcome. I think it is important to build on a foundation of technique, sight reading, and music theory, but also have fun in the process. I have a BM in Clarinet Performance from the University of Puget Sound and a MM in Clarinet Performance from California State University, Fullerton.

My goal as a Clarinet teacher is to give each student a very well rounded and thorough understanding of the instrument. Lessons will be tailored to each student and will include the following: knowledge of instrument care/maintenance, tone production, technique (scales, etudes, etc), musicality, music theory, and a variety of repertoire from classical to pop.

My teaching philosophy is to empower students with the tools they need to become their own greatest mentor. I emphasize goal setting so that our work together has clarity of purpose. I believe in the power of carefully focused attention and intention in music-making. Let's push the limits of your playing to the next level together!
