Ear Training (or Aural Training) is a very important part of musical development. Learning to recognise sounds will help you in many ways, most importantly it will help you Transcribe and accelerate your ability to work out songs on your own.

It really can be quite incredible and I have had many students say that after a few months of consistent work on Ear Training that they can hear music better, that they can separate the instruments easier and hear new depths in recordings they thought they knew well.

I grew up transcribing, it was the way I learned to play songs, but when I started doing Interval Ear Training it took it to a whole new level. Doing a lot of transcribing will teach you the intervals sonically and to some extent on the neck, but once you know the names of the intervals too it makes it easier because you can 'put a tag on it' and know for sure what it is. I have been a student of Tim’s for a little over a year now. I started playing guitar at age 52 and when I started with Tim I was very close to giving up or settling on just being able to strum a few chords. I have had many hand injuries in the past that have resulted in arthritis and lack of dexterity in my wrists and some of my fingers and I started doubting I would ever be able to progress in my ability to play. From the very first lesson where I told Tim about my hand issues and my frustrations, he told me he was sure we could work around any physical limitations I had, and he was right. Tim has been able to work with me on alternative ways to play the chords I was having trouble with and has shown me that these alternate techniques along with the bit of music theory he sprinkles into lessons can really expand my ability to play.

In the time I have been studying with Tim, I have done more than I thought I ever could. I went from a frustrated beginner guitar player to having enough confidence to play on stage with some of Tim’s other students and I am now looking forward to what I will be able to do on the guitar instead of being frustrated with what I can’t do.

Tim is a talented and passionate musician as well as a knowledgeable and very relatable instructor which is a rare combination and he's also a really great guy and any student of any age or ability will benefit from studying with him.

"I needed help singing in the church choir. Rebekah was amazing and personally took the time to teach me and work with me to help me to be able to sing in the choir on Christmas Eve. She was very patient and never criticized, but gently taught me to sing various styles of notes. I'm not a musical person, so I can't really get the terminology right, but she helped me to be able to located the different notes in the hymnal as I was singing. On Christmas Eve, with Rebekah's lessons, I accomplished what we had set out to do and was able to sing in the Christmas Eve service.

I've also known Rebekah personally for a long time now. She is full of personality and is exciting to be around. She is very professional and kind to all of her students.
