I was classically trained as a singer and can help you sing opera as well. Many of my students have worked on opera pieces before and currently.

About Vanessa
As a vocal teacher I focus on the correct method to singing that helps keep your voice beautiful and healthy.
I earned my bachelors degree in music education with an emphasis in vocals. I learned music appreciation, theory, history, choral singing and classical voice training.
I love music and cannot picture life without it. Music is an expression of life! I also love to teach music to others as I feel I'm passing on a great gift.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher I fall somewhere in between strict and laid back. For instance, if you don't practice I won't scold you, but I will remind you that you can only be as good as you work to be. If you don't want to put in the effort you will waste your time and money, as well as not receive the results that you were desiring.
Our lessons will consist of many vocal exercises, go
od posture, and breathing techniques. One rule that I have is that I don't move you on to another song until you have successfully learned all you can from the first one you try. There is no point in learning another song when you have only learned the first one at a mediocre level.
If you are serious about becoming a better singer/musician you will enjoy our lessons.
I encourage my students to strive for excellence and will do all I can to draw that out of you.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide the tools to learn theory, songs to choose from and I do have my own portable keyboard. Students would need to have a tape or digital recorder to record their lessons and a positive attitude.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical voice, and vocal training, (learning how to use your voice properly).

Vanessa deserves more than I could describe:
She is such a sweet teacher who feels easy to teach you at the right level. With great understanding, warm passion, and sufficient knowledge, she’s just made me more and more confident!
I enjoyed every lesson she gave. Time went by without knowing since I was absolutely attracted by her every instruction and demonstration! I’m probably the oldest student, over 70, a total beginner,. Yet, this is no problem to her at all!
Vanessa makes me think of the popular saying: “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. “
Dear teacher Vanessa has certainly inspired me a great deal!

About Ariel
Hi! My name is Ariel. Thank you so much for looking at my profile. Here is some information about my educational background, performance career, and how I believe I benefit students.

I was heralded as an “impressive young…discovery” by the Los Angeles Times in 2010 when I made my operatic debut with Long Beach Opera as Nancy T’ang in Adam’s Nixon in China. I have performed roles such as Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen, First Woman in Cherubini’s Medea, Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Giovanna in Verdi’s Rigoletto. I have been a soloist with the Blackbird Music Project, and I regularly collaborate with composers in the Southern California area. I was a fourth place winner in the Palm Springs Vocal Competition and am an OperaWorks alumna. I have a Masters degree from the University of
Southern California, Thornton School of Music and I have a Bachelors degree from Northern Arizona University. I also completed a teaching internship at the California Lutheran University.

My style of teaching is tailor made for each student because everyone has different goals and needs. I focus on making singing fun and painless while setting a strong technical foundation. My goal for the student is to take away technical issues so they can be musically expressive and show the world who they are.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher. My hope is that students will feel improvement in their lessons and it will motivate them to practice. In my opinion, the lessons should be fun, educational, and safe.

My curriculum is based on the needs of the student. In general, I always begin with breathing techniques. Breathing is the foundation of singing and so I tend to spend some time trying to show the student the most efficient and most effortless technique. Then I move on to what I have learned from my own voice teacher, and I will teach the students what are called "vocal function exercises." These are a series of gentle warm ups that teach the student a combination of breath pressure, resonance, and eliminating physical tensions within the neck, chest, and back. Then I move on to incorporating these ideas into repertoire. I like to decide repertoire with the student based on their preferences and their skill level. Generally I like to give the student one classical piece in a foreign language and one musical theater piece, but this is not set in stone.
I hope that after a few months the student will have an understanding of breathing, beginning vocal technique, and some repertoire we have been working on.

All of this said, ultimately I do not hold students to my own expectations. I want them to learn at their own pace and not feel they need to be at a certain point after a certain amount of time.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room. Keyboard. Seating for parents. Cats.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide sheet music and I expect the student to provide a keyboard or piano.

*** Specialties ***
I teach a method that is very simple and allows the student to express themselves musically and to have fun.

My expertise is Opera but I can teach all styles of singing.

Studied 7 years with Edward Kingens

About Patrick
The Vocal Artist

A rare 'natural' tenor, Patrick's range and versatility are evidenced throughout his work. From Bach Cantatas to Broadway tunes, he's even dared to sing Denver, bringing audiences to tears with his own rendition of Annie's Song. He is a torch song tenor, a la Rondstadt's 'Round Midnight but with the power and passion of Pavarotti.

Like most classically-trained tenors, Patrick can list many of the master works among his repertoire. Starting with Michigan Opera Theatre's Opera-in-Residence program, he performed in Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus and The Mikado and others. In Detroit & Windsor Ontario, he performed Bach, Schubert, Handel, Dubois, Mozart and Dvorak. While Patrick's early career focused on classical sacred performances, his real passion is to re-create traditional music in new ways. He recorded his
first two albums with composer Yves Vincent of San Diego, California in genre-stretching new-age/classical style.

After relocating to Tucson, Arizona, as music director for his church, he encouraged a variety of styles and genres to be used by the musicians and choirs of each of five weekend Masses.
Later, in Illinois, he directed another 60 voice parish choir that frequently performed with orchestras from Illinois State & Wesleyan Universities. His voice students in all these locations have been encouraged to explore and develop their own unique expression of their favorite music, while building on a solid foundation of technique, vocal strength and musicianship.

Now that Patrick has relocated one more time to Los Angeles, CA, he is working on a 3rd and 4th CD and once again accepting students. He enjoys the opportunity to expose young & older talent to the power and passion of classical music while also helping them create ways to make it new and exciting by reinterpreting it with their own favorite genres.

Lessons

Patrick's passion for teaching comes from his philosophy of music:
"Music is humanity's most evolved form of expression and communication. Music includes language, our physical senses, and our sense of meaning. With music, ordinary language is ultimately transcended. Words communicate from mind to mind; music communicates to the depth of the soul."

Patrick teaches and encourages young beginners as well as coaching and challenging seasoned professionals. He has even taught a hearing-impaired student to use physical sensation rather than sound to sing on pitch! He focuses on fundamentals of breath, technique and strength to help singers take care of their irreplaceable instrument. (Patrick's own vocal coach, Edward Kingins, continues to perform and move audiences in Detroit well in to his 70s!) Along with helping students build a strong foundation, he nurtures a love and commitment to music by working with students in the style and genre they enjoy most, from rock to pop, jazz or country.

Patrick also has unique insight into the entertainment industry, both in Los Angeles and across the country. Over the years, he has been associated with and close friends with musicians and actors such as John Denver and Richard Hatch as well as sought-after speakers Tom Crum and W Mitchell. Since locating to L.A., he has worked in independent movies with Damian Chapa and David Carradine as an actor and production assistant and coordinator. This experience, coupled with his own success on stage and as a recording artist helps him guide and advise serious young talent to maneuver the crazy environment of Hollywood and avoid the scams and pitfalls of the entertainment industry.

Beginning Lesson Outline

My Basic lesson outline is to determine where we are starting with each student and custom make lessons designed to fit the needs for that student. We will also work on meditation and visualization techniques for performance. The idea is for you to feel the words and sing with passion or so your audience believes your song.

Unlike other instruments, your voice cannot be replaced if it is damaged. I take the time needed through each step of the process so your voice is strengthened and developed properly. It is up to the student to practice and apply what is learned and build a trained, strong instrument that will be useable for your whole life.

You will learn:

Proper breathing techniques and practice.
Properly warming up the voice.
Working on music theory (reading music, etc.)
Ear training and pitch.
Expression, phrasing and performing.
Applying techniques learned to music suitable for student's capabilities.
Learning to have fun and enjoy the music experience.
Confidence and self-esteem

Depending on student's progress, specific lesson components above will be emphasized so that the student's goals will be achieved.
My goal is to prepare you to the best of my ability for you to achieve your dreams.

I needed to practice a solo for my Easter Vigil Psalm performance, and he helped me take care of my instrument, taught me great exercises, and gave me good advice about my career. He is a very nice instructor. He will help you grow as a singer and performer, and you always learn something new everyday with him...I highly recommend him to everyone because he really knows music theory.

"From your mouth to Patrick's ear*...

I was looking for an experienced and patient teacher, one who really listens, and am lucky enough to be able to work with Patrick. He not only hears the singing, but has the flexibility and talent to adapt to the needs and concerns of the singer. Highly recommended. *"From your mouth to G*d's ear," is a Jewish expression meaning, "May what you just said be true!"

Fawn is a very fun, yet honest and straight-forward coach. She loves working with adults and children, and considers lessons a 'team effort to reach her students' goals. Being that music and the entertainment business are her career and life, she is current and relevant, yet has plenty of old school training to be well rounded and help students build a strong foundation. Fawn is amazing. I have been studying with her for two years and I'm so glad I found her. She is a flexible, competent, positive, and high-energy person and always brightens my day.

It doesn't take her long to figure out problem areas in technique and begin the process for change. I've been steadily improving since the very first lesson and the whole time I've been studying with her and am constantly surprised each time I do a little better or have an epiphany about something I've been trying to achieve for a while. Fawn is a natural teacher and knows a number of tricks and explanations to help clarify concepts and can very easily switch approaches if she thinks something else will work better.

Fawn knows a broad repertoire of music and is great at recommending songs that fit my voice and my skill level. She is patient and is willing to set the pace as fast or as slow as you need to feel comfortable with a piece.

Fawn makes it easy to relax and not feel self-conscious. Lessons are fun, but also expect to work hard. If you want extra challenges and opportunities to sing and get feedback, Fawn is the coach for you.

Overall, I've had nothing but good experiences singing with Fawn.

I have been taking lessons with Fawn for about 11 months now and have really enjoyed it. She is friendly, encouraging, flexible with scheduling and a great teacher. If there is something that I find difficult or cannot understand, she finds new ways to teach it so I can improve. I highly recommend taking classes with Fawn.

I hold a master's in vocal performance from Cal State University, Fullerton and a Bachelor's in vocal performance from USC. I've been teaching voice for over 13 years. As a classical singer, I've had professional experience doing lead roles with various performing groups. This has taught me the level of expertise which is required in the real world of singing. In teaching classical singing, I focus on a breath-based technique where we focus on technical exercises designed to help you breathe more efficiently. We also work a lot on proper vowel formation and strive to eliminate excessive tension in your vocal instrument. Last but not least, we work on interpreting the music (musical phrasing, pronunciation, subtext). My goal is to help you become the best performer you can be. I encourage singers to take part in 2 studio recitals a year as well as various evaluations and competitions, depending on your own personal goals. I am a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing ...

About Shannon
I hold a master's in voice from CSUF and a double bachelor's in piano and voice from USC. With over 13 years of experience as a private voice and piano instructor I have had the privilege of helping many students achieve their musical goals. As a member of MTAC and NATS, I enter many students in Certificate of Merit, Student Evaluation Program, and other festivals. For pianists, I work on songs, scales, theory, ear training and sometimes improvisation. For singers, we work on a breath-based breathing technique and songs that reinforce good singing habits but that are also engaging for the singer. We also work on sight singing and theory.Though my training is mostly in classical music, I do work on other styles with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
For pianists, I recommend the Premier Alfred piano course, or for older beginners/ad
ults, we use Adult Piano Adventures. I also recommend purchasing a scale/technique book and a theory book.

For singers, please bring a recording device (phone is ok) so that you may later practice the exercises which we learn in the lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a Baldwin grand piano as well as an electronic piano in my studio. For budding pianists, I offer instruction with Piano Marvel software.

About Bryan
Hello! I'm a singer and multi-instrumentalist with professional experience in opera, choral, and studio recording. Originally from Thousand Oaks California, I grew up with a love of the theater and of music. I have completed two advanced degrees in music, graduating from the University of California Santa Barbara with a Masters in Vocal Performance and Magna Cum Laude from Westmont College in Santa Barbara with a degree in music.

I have experience teaching in my private voice studio and at the University of California. Whether you are looking to learn to sing healthfully, prepare for a high school/college/post-college audition, bolster your confidence in front of people, or looking to explore your expressive/creative side, I will work with you to achieve your goals.

The final goal of my instruction is to equip the singer both emotio
nally and physically for the act of singing and performance both in music and in life. I realize that some of my students may go on to be professional singers, while many others will not. Nevertheless, my goal is to instill confidence and pride for ones work, nurturing the unique expressive voice of each student and assuring them that it is of great value. Armed with this confidence and knowledge, they can bring their creative apparatus to bear upon all arenas of life.

Hi! I'm Rachel! Teaching people how to sing with ease is my passion. I teach in Orange County, Los Angeles, and online.

In year 2008 I became the single youngest person to be accepted into the world renowned Speech Level Singing International teacher training and certification program. I took vocal master classes and was trained and certified as a vocal coach directly by Seth Riggs, the international authority on vocal instruction who trained artists like Michael Jackson, Josh Groban, Stevie Wonder and hundreds of other Grammy Award winning singers.

I work with all styles. My goal with my voice students is to teach them how to use their voice in a healthy and natural way while maintaining the sound that got them recognition, as well as help beginners find their style. With proper technique, singing becomes as easy as speaking. Rachel is professional, approachable, and extremely talented teacher! I definitely recommend her teaching an recording services. I received voice lessons to record for my husband's wedding present. I sang a song called "Still" by Hillsong and accompanied it with my own piano playing. My husband enjoyed the recording very much. Without Reed Vocal Studio, I would not have been able to give the gift of music to my husband. I do not regret having Rachel as my teacher and as my recording engineer. I added my recording on Sound Cloud if anyone is interested in taking a peak at what it is like to record music with Rachel. Let me tell you, she is amazing! Five stars all the way!!

Enjoy :)

In our lessons we will work to develop a healthy vocal technique, focussing on the breath and how that is the foundation of all types of singing. We will do this by beginning our lessons with vocal and breathing exercises. A huge part of vocal discovery is taking risks! So we will explore your voice by making lots of different (sometimes crazy) noises to you help you discover your voice. Furthermore, we will work on cultivating your individual artistry.

About Anastasia
Hello! I'm Anastasia and I an opera singer who loves to share the gift of music with others. I received my BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and my MM in Vocal Arts at the University of Southern California. My teaching philosophy includes establishing a solid and healthy technical foundation while simultaneously cultivating the artistry of each individual student. However, I believe that developing technique and understanding how the voice works is imperative in order to reach higher artistic levels.

I also offer lessons in beginning/intermediate piano as well as ear training and music theory.
