My BA had an emphasis in "classical" music theory but I'm also well versed in jazz theory and pop and rock. My understanding of music plays a role in everything I play and write. I love it and love teaching it.

About James

I've played keyboards and sang professionally for the last 25 years. During that time my home has been in the San Francisco Bay Area but I have performed all over the country and have toured several times in Germany, Switzerland, and Japan. I’m a two time winner of the West Coast Songwriters “Song

I came away from my lesson with James feeling so happy and knowing that he will be teaching and encouraging me all the way going forward. I am actually lost for words to express what an incredibly positive experience I had today. I am also looking forward to my grand daughter taking lessons from James now too. I feel I got lucky that James is the teacher that was found for me.

For the beginner, I will break music therory down into easy to understand segments so that it will not be as overwhelming to someone who’s never learnt music theory before. For those who have learnt music theory before but need a refresher, I will make sure there are no gaps in their knowledge and go from there.

I’ve been working with mrs Kim, since the beginning of summer!! I always sang in the shower or just too sing I felt like I had a future with it if I continued and took lessons so I decided too ask my mom and she signed me up with mrs Kim! It’s only been a few months since I’ve been working with her in my voice and I’ve improved so much since IMY first lesson! She’s help gotten me too we’re I am right now. Mrs Kim is such an amazing teacher. She’s is very honest and open with things you need help or need to work on. She’s also a very good singer and has amazing taste in music ! But she’s really helped me find my voice, find out if I wanna continue doing music. She’s helped a lot with my voice and overall just finding my melodys a little better because rim a dancer so I pick up melodys pretty easily but sometimes I need help with finding the exact melody and really helps. Overall I’ve loved working mrs Kim and I want to continue working with mrs kim!!

Chau has been a great instructor/coach for me. She has forced me out of my comfort zone to make me a better singer overall, rather than just learning how to sing what I'm comfortable with. She focuses immensely on breaking bad habits and building/reinforcing good ones. She's extremely knowledgeable, with a great ear, and very keen to the mechanics of what creates a certain sound. With that, she is able to clearly articulate what you're doing to create the sound, in a relatable and understandable way. She's strict, but if you really want to excel, she'll be able to push you there.

I've been taking lessons online and in person from Chau for almost a year now and I can honestly say, I wouldn't have had it any other way. She is an extraordinary teacher who is very good at communicating and understanding her students. I remember being terrified of singing out loud when I first arrived with her. Since then she has allowed me to open up and has made a huge difference in not only the way I sing but the way I live my life as well. She pushes me to be the best singer I can be and helps me believe in myself even when I am in doubt. She is truly an amazing teacher and lovely human being that I'd recommend to anyone regardless of singing goals or experience.

"Adam is a wonderful tutor and help. He’s patient with those he is teaching & he looks for ways to teach and demonstrate the material in a whitty, impactful manner. He knows everything there is to know about music theory and much more, and a lot of my success in passing all four levels of music theory points back to this guy!"

"Gregg was my musical instructor during the early 1980ties. What I learned in a few lessons with him was more that I could have expected. I was primarily focused on percussion, of which his vast knowledge was highly dynamic. I learned about poly-rhythms, Indian ti-hies, and complex time signatures. He had available much reference material that he provided me. And over the years his musical insights have not only supplemented my inquiries, but made me a better musician and person. I hope you have a chance to study with Gregg, as you will be introduced to a new and better way of musicianship!"

She will go out of her way to check on my progress musically and see how I'm doing throughout the work week.

I'm very grateful for her dedication to the art of music. Anyone who is looking for a caring instructor; look no further than Ms. Christine."
