Music
Jenny comes from a very musical family and started piano when she was five years old. She grew up constantly listening to her father practicing his guitar and brother practicing violin. Since then, her accomplishments include an Honorable Mention at the Korea Times Youth Music Competition. She has performed in two solo recitals and has performed biannually with the Beverly Hills Chamber Orchestra. Jenny has participated in the Frederic Chopin Felix Mendelssohn Minifest 2005 and has regularly performed at the Colburn School of Performing Arts from 2003 - 2008. Jenny was also a part of the Goldcoast Chamber Music Festival and was awarded the second prize at the Chamber Music Walker Competition. She has excellent communication skills and has worked as an assistant to the Program Coordinator at Montecito Summer Music Festival while al
so participating as a performer. In addition to her musical abilities, Jenny has received many academic honors as well. She is a member of the Agoura High Chapter of the California Scholarship and is also on the Dean’s List at the University of Southern California. She graduated from USC with a BA in Music and emphasis on Piano.

Jenny started teaching neighborhood kids while she was in high school and has continued to inspire her students throughout her academic studies. She strives to make every lesson different, tailored to individual student’s needs, whether he or she is a beginning toddler or in need of advanced technique.

Dance
Jenny has always had a passion for the performing arts. During her years at USC, she discovered Latin dancing. She has performed, choreographed, and taught for USC's Latin dance team Break On 2 and is still involved. She has participated and performed at numerous salsa and bachata festivals/congresses.

Music
As a teacher, I try to make music learning as fun and well-rounded as possible. Every student is unique, and I try my best to accommodate every individual's needs. I encourage students to always ask questions, no matter how silly it might sound, and to trust me to help you achieve your goals. I encourage students to tell me their favorite songs and genre of music and use the knowledge to help keep them motivated, to remind them that learning is fun.

For all ages and levels, I prefer to incorporate music theory as part of the learning process. It allows the student to see the how and why, to not only feel music but also understand it. If your goal is primarily playing oriented, I will, of course, adjust my teaching style to fit your needs.

I learn something new from every student, love seeing my students improve and gain confidence in themselves. I ask that students come with an open mind and be prepared to make mistakes because no piece is perfect and neither are lessons. Lessons give you the opportunity to make mistakes without judgement. You can trust me to always have a positive attitude, it is OK to make mistakes, but practice to play better, and enjoy the feedback to see yourself improve! Learning piano does not happen in a few lessons and is a lifelong rewarding process. I hope to see you treat music with respect, so let's make beautiful music together!

Dance
I also provide choreography for wedding dances (couples, father/daughter). My main focus is on the social aspect of Latin dancing, such as salsa, bachata, merengue, and cha cha. Thus, I will only take students who are able to go out dancing to studios, restaurants, and clubs, meaning 18+ individuals or groups. Every week, I will provide new, cool, and stimulating choreography that supplements technique while developing your own unique style. I love to see my students out on the dance floor, implementing moves learned and having fun! Dancing is a healthy, joyful activity. Get ready for a confidence boost and let's get your heart pumping!

*** Travel Equipment ***
Music - Student should have a keyboard or piano and practice related materials. Dance - Ladies should have secure, comfortable heels. Gentlemen should wear non-rubber soled shoes. Preferably wood or laminate floor. Carpet is ok but will have a harder time developing technique. Also should have some sort of stereo or speaker system, a computer is OK if it is loud.

I am qualified to teach test preparation for the CBEST because I just took it this July and I was able to pass it on my first try. I received a score of 60 on the math section, a 50 on the reading section, and a 47 on the writing section. I also completed the test an hour and a half early. In order to pass the CBEST, you must have a combined total of 123. My combined score was a 157. I have tutored a CBEST student in preparation for the math section and her score went from a 28 to a 38 after only three lessons.

About Megan
I worked at a Kumon math and reading tutoring center for three years. I love helping children with their schoolwork, especially those in the elementary grades. I have worked one on one with students and with small groups of students. I recently graduated from Cal Poly Pomona as a Liberal Studies major and I am continuing my education to attain my Multiple Subject teaching credential. I taught a three year old to recognize all of the letters of the alphabet out of order and we are currently working on understanding all letter sounds. I use a lot of worksheets and repetition so students can recall what they have learned very quickly. I also like to use hands on activities and games.

Reading
I am qualified to tutor students in reading because I have worked at a reading tutoring center for almost three years. I have helped students learn to read by working with them through both one on one and group instruction. I have worked with reading students between the ages of three to 13. I really enjoy teaching students in the lower grades and seeing them grow from learning their ABCs, to knowing letter sounds, and then blending sounds to form words. Each of these steps is important for students to master so they can form a strong foundation and confidence in reading.

Study Skills
I am qualified to teach study skills because I have always been a very good student in school and have been able to maintain a high grade point average. I have learned how to manage my time and how to study for tests. I have never turned in a late assignment as I know my limitations and how to distribute my time to the tasks that need to be completed.

Each lesson changes as students learn new material. For some of the students I have tutored, I have helped them sharpen their skills by revisiting topics. For other students, the lessons have been for test preparation or homework help. I like to use a lot of repetition because I feel that repetition allows students to really learn and understand what they are working on.

I tried different learning centers and other similar programs through the school to help my child meet her academic needs and improve her school performance, but she was still facing a lot of difficulties. I can honestly say that I prayed for a tutor/teacher like Ms. Megan. She is simply the best. She has such a positive and encouraging approach to teaching. This wonderful unique individual thinks outside the box. She was able to identify the areas that my child was having difficulties in right away. We dreaded the school year before meeting Ms. Megan. At the end of the school, my child received not only the usual attendance award, but I 'm so happy and proud to say that she also received 3 academic achievement awards. Teaching and tutoring has been my calling from early in life. It started with tutoring my friends, up to when I was hired through my high school Calculus class to tutor 10th grade Geometry students.

Since then, I've taught GRE, ACT and SAT prep and I've been a classroom mathematics teacher (from 7th grade to 12th grade) for almost a decade.

I have two specialties that make me fairly unique in the domain of Mathematics and Test Prep teaching and tutoring: First, I help students to understand the topic on a much deeper and more interesting level, by connecting it to related topics and skills, providing historical background, and elaborating on how it's been used and how it's currently used. This makes the material much more interesting, and, hence, much more likely to be recalled it in the future, than when it is taught the standard w
ay.

Secondly, I am well aware of the role test-anxiety and self-doubt plays in the lack of success of some students, so I put a lot of emphasis on the emotional and psychological component of learning and test-taking. With a bachelor's degree in Psychology, I have tools to apply that help students to overcome the debilitating affects of test anxiety, self-doubt, and fear of failure.

Beyond this, I am very personable and can connect with most any student that I teach. I love to help students to learn, and that is readily evident to my students. Some students are intimidated by teachers or tutors who don't know how to connect with the students on a personal level, or how to break things down in a way that makes sense to the student, but that's where I truly excel. Instead of simply repeating myself and wondering why a students doesn't understand a challenging concept, I work to grasp where the breakdown occurs, and then build up from what they do already understand. Through this, I have had unparalleled success throughout my teaching experience, whether it is Math specifically, or Test Prep more generally.

Since he is an experienced teacher, I invited Andy to speak to my graduate students in the teacher certification program at Temple University. He was very well received. Andy spoke to the pre-service teachers about classroom management, adolescent development, and test anxiety. His presentation was well organized and engaging, and the students learned much from his words of wisdom and concrete examples from urban teaching.

Andy has been working with our middle-school-aged son this summer, to help him prepare for a challenging Algebra I class next school year. We didn't want to overwhelm our son with endless lessons, so we prioritized finding a tutor who would tailor both his teaching style and the material for optimal understanding. Andy did exactly that. He rapidly got to know our son's learning style, motivations, and concerns-- and structured his lessons to complement them. Mr. Andrew is an exceptional educator that truly cares about the success of his students. Our daughter was part of his SAT prep
class the summer before her senior year. Mr. Andrew
gave her the skills she needed to improve her test score by more than 200 points. But more importantly than her test score she was confident and comfortable before taking the test. Mr. Andrew provided her with really good insight into what the test preparers were looking for and help to fine tune skills that she has worked during her early high school years. We are proud to say our daughter was accepted at all four of the schools she applied to. She was accepted early decision to Drexel University and will be a freshman there in merely 34 days!!!

Test Prep, Study Skills, they go hand in hand. But, with test prep taking care of ourselves is often something we miss! Simple things like getting enough sleep, eating and being prepared can make testing less stressful and they are easy to do.

I will teach you how to prepare ahead of time. :) Or last minute if you prefer:( *Some students perform well under pressure;) That was not me. Either way it's important to have strategies to help you along the way. I have dealt with many personality types during my teaching years, so I know that what works for some may not work for all. That's why it's important to find what works for you!

I have a Ryan Multiple Subject teaching credential with English language learner authorization from the state of California and taught in the public education system there for 5 years. I am also certified in Texas with a Generalist (EC-6) and and English Learner supplemental certification. I have been teaching in Houston for the past year and a half. I have a Master's of Arts degree in Teaching from the University of Southern California along with certification from the University of California, San Diego in teaching gifted students. I am passionate about education and providing students with the information they need to be successful in life!

Tutor came and seemed interested in helping, actually did research which indicated so. Then I had to cancel a lesson due to child having strep but advise will resume following week. Then received a call from Take Lesson stating she says 'not a good fit.' which is perfectly fine but she could have indicated that in an adult manner verses me getting a call Tuesday a day prior to lesson.
Disappointed but found more reliable and dedicated concerned turtor.
