I teach reading, "proper"classical technique and how to play with emotion!

About Mike
I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompa
ny students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They should have their own instrument and a music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz improvisation on piano and guitar.
I also teach recreational guitar and piano for adults, including classical and blues styles.
I coach bass players and drummers in playing stylistically correct grooves for jazz, rock and latin music.

Most excellent first guitar lesson to where we actually played a song together. I'm blown away. What fun! I only hope I can remember the chords when I practice on my own, and I look forward to my next lesson with Mike. I can already tell I'll be signing up for more lessons. Great teacher, and I can say that because I tried to learn some years ago with another instructor, and he made me feel like I'd just never get it and may as well give up. Mike erased all that negativity for me in 30 minutes. Thanks, Mike!

Classical is my specialty. I've taught for almost 15 years and can really help you reach your goals and become a better musician.

KIDS:
I also specialize in teaching kids classical guitar. Classical for your kids is the best way to get them learning real music and theory, developing the best possible technique and good habits, and literally changing their brain chemistry for the better! The foundations they establish with classical leads them to better playing of ANY style even if they don't stick with classical. I am contracted out and travel the nation teaching kids classical guitar and teaching teachers how to teach it, so I feel fully confident you're in the best hands you could be in if your child takes lessons with me.

ADULTS:
If you're just starting out, I will help you build a technical foundation first, playing through a "boot camp" of easy pieces to build sight reading and technical skills. When you're done with that you're ready to tackle some really cool ...

About Jaxon
*See further below for lesson details!*
Jaxon the Guitarist: I am a Doctoral Guitar Major at USC studying classical guitar. I have been playing the guitar for 19 years and teaching for 10. My main style is classical, and due to the technical training I have had since I was very young, it has been very easy for me to learn and master other styles such as Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Country, and other styles of guitar. I have a passion for performing and have played hundreds of solo and ensemble concerts. As a classical performer I was the Oregon State champion in their guitar competition for bo
th 2005 and 2006 and won 4th prize at the Sierra Nevada International Classical Guitar Competition 2014. I have played concerts all over the United States as well as in Spain and Mexico. As a performer of other styles I have played in many bands and have won high school battle of the bands competitions and recently placed 2nd in BYU's battle of the bands 2011. I was a regional finalist in Guitar Center's "King of the Blues" competition as well.

Jaxon the Teacher: I really love spreading the knowledge I've learned over the years about the guitar, bass guitar, songwriting, music theory, and everything music related to my students. I find a huge sense of fulfillment in seeing my students understand and enjoy learning and making beautiful music. I have a high level of knowledge and skills that I am very willing to use to teach students from the most beginner to the most advanced. Former students of mine have achieved lofty goals ranging from making it into a music program at the college level to winning their school's talent show to being accepted into their school's jazz band.

*** Lesson Details ***
My curriculum is based around YOU. I push my students hard, but I make sure they're always having fun and enjoying playing. I like to get my students playing real songs as fast as possible so they can see results immediately and get excited!

Note: I am trained and specialized in teaching children fingerstyle guitar. I have taught hundreds of kids in schools, privately, and in groups over the last two years. The method I use is proven to give kids the best possible start to music and maximize their potential. If you have children and you want them to learn good technique and music principles through guitar, you don't want to look any further, I promise.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have stools, music stands, and an amp here so all you need to bring is your guitar!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not provide any equipment.
Student must have their own guitar and amp if they play electric.
I do have guitars available for rental.

*** Specialties ***
-Children's fingerstyle guitar
-Proficient in Suzuki method
-Specialist in classical guitar, though proficient up to highly advanced in any guitar style (blues, rock, country, jazz, pop, etc)
-Also very experienced teaching songwriting and music performance

You can expect a personalized plan to achieve your guitar goals, whether they are for playing for personal enjoyment or preparing for the concert stage. As a recent conservatory graduate, I can assist with applications, providing you with valuable insight into the college audition process. My teaching philosophy centers around developing a passion for music through the guitar in a systematic way. My goal as an instructor is to make every stage of development expressive, musical, and easy.

About Sean
Welcome, I'm Sean and I'm excited to get started on your personalized lesson package!

I currently live in Los Angeles, where I just received my masters degree in classical guitar performance from USC's Thornton School of Music. Through the program I had the opportunity to study with Scott Tennant of the Grammy winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, along with maestro Pepe Romero. Recently I was awarded first prize at the 2015 American String Teachers Association 'Aron Green' guitar competition, and have done recordings for Guitar Salon International, KUSC radio at LACMA's Sundays Live Series,
and soundtracks for documentaries such as 'Revolution Food.' Now that I have completed my degree program I am eager to start teaching and performing more regularly. I have enjoyed teaching consistently for the past 8 years, which has ranged from Kindergarten classrooms to one on one college level instruction.

I started teaching guitar at the local music store when I was in High School. After graduating I went to The Hartt School in Connecticut to study classical guitar where I had the opportunity to teach non-majors in my program. During the summers I worked as a music director for an arts camp in East Hampton, NY. This job included a great deal of teaching kids who were total beginners how to not only play an instrument, but play in group settings with each other. I then moved to Los Angeles for my masters degree in classical guitar at USC. Through USC I worked for their community outreach program, teaching classroom guitar to middle school students and general music for kindergarten through third grade classes. Alongside this I began teaching at a music center in San Marino on the weekends, which I still currently teach at. This June and July I will also be traveling to Maine to serve as guitar faculty at the New England Music Camp.

If you are ready to take your music skills SERIOUSLY then stop wasting time and money on teachers who don't fully understand what they are teaching. Russ is a truly exceptional individual and very knowledgeable in all aspects of music theory, production and the industry. Not only is he an great at what he does, but he can also relate and impart that knowledge onto others - a skill that is surprisingly rare among high-caliber performers. The price per lesson seems higher than average at first glance, but I feel that the speed and amount of knowledge you acquire per dollar is actually lower than that of other instructors. Really.

He is also active in the industry, so the skills he teaches are current.

I take lessons with Russ online through Skype for EDM production in FL Studio. He is always punctual and promptly communicates if anything comes up. His teaching style carefully balances the need to provide guidance, while allowing freedom for individual artistic development. Every week, I start a composition or track analysis project that applies what I've learned in previous lessons, and I will submit it to Russ to discuss things that went well and things to work on in the future. In this way, you are not just being lectured, but you are actually learning to collaborate with an exceptional musician. I've personally experienced how constant application and feedback facilitates rapid learning.

He certainly is a serious musician, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a fun personality. He is engaging and inspirational.

I would, without reservation nor hesitation, highly recommend Russ to anyone who is interested in professional music production.

I really enjoy learning from Russ. He is good at relating things back to a way I can understand and improve. He is so versatile in his music knowledge that I can litterally throw anything his way that I'm curious about and he points me in the right direction. I've taken guitar, bass, vocal, and even production lessons from Russ. By far the most value I have ever got from an instructor. At first I was a little hesitant because of the higher price than others, but when you start noticing that you are learning stuff other teachers had no idea about, it makes sense to pay a little more for the quality you get out of his lessons. Thanks Russ for all the lessons over the last few years! Wouldn't be where I am today without ya!

I have been fortunate enough to study with many great classical guitarists since I started playing the guitar. My first instructor was a student of Andres Segovia, the father of classical guitar! I also studied with great classical guitarists while earning my degree at USC. I took years of lessons with both Adam del Monte and James Smith, and I am always glad to share everything I learned on to the next classical guitarist!

About Lucas
I have a deep passion for music making and music education. I take pride in watching my students progress, develop and excel. I have helped all level of students, from early beginners getting over the beginner lessons hump, to students preparing to enter college and hobbyists or professionals trying to sharpen their skills. I am proud of the work that I have done and love to share my knowledge and experience with others!
