About Judy
I started taking music lessons at the age of 9. It began playing in the church and then I taught lessons in my home at the age of 16. I went on to attend and graduate from Christian Heritage College (now called San Diego Christian College) with a Bachelors Degree in Music and Business. I am now the Director of the Music Department at San Diego Young Artists Music Academy. I direct two youth and children choirs, a male chorus and a great adult choir. I also sing with the Voices of Prayze who travel with Jason Mraz from time to time. As a singer, pianist and as a teacher, I specialize in Gospel
piano & vocal technique and repertoire. I also have a great deal of experience in Pop, R&B, and Classical so I am able to help students excel in these genres as well.

I teach all ages and most styles. Healthy techniques, breathing, hitting notes accurately, expanding range, enunciation, song selection, song styling and microphone techniques.
I have been teaching both privately and classes for 24 yrs. I use combined curriculum from Musician's Institute and Los Angeles Music College.
My goal is to enhance what you already have and help you to reach "your" goals.
Some of my students are getting better roles in musicals, on the road touring with their band, solos in choruses and choirs, making money as singers around town, recording CD's and getting into the music programs at the universities of their choice.

About Carol
I've sung most of my life. I've been teaching since 1991. I listen to a lot of different singers but my real passion is jazz, Brazilian music and blues. I've performed in the US as well as England and Scotland. I also have recorded 2 Cd's.

I teach many different styles of music and work with beginners to advanced. Both of my teaching studios are equipped with a P.A. system so that students can also work on their performance skills.

What's the first lesson like? When I first meet a new student I ask about what experience they've had singing. Even beginners sing in the shower or along
with their favorite CD's.

Finding out what kind of music the student listens to and wants to sing is also a big part of the first lesson. I find that it is more motivating and fun to work on songs that the students enjoy.

It's good for me to know if they feel strain, tension or raspiness. I explain a little about how the vocal cords work, visualizing or picturing the action of the vocal cords and the muscles that work with them.

I encourage students to find their own images that they can relate to. We work on breathing, increasing range and power through vocal exercises. I record exercises at the lesson and give the student their own practice CD to work on during the week.

Working on songs is equally important. Knowing how to get the sound that is uniquely your own and expressing yourself without strain or damage to the vocal cords.

Do any of the following things interest you? Increased range and power, ear training, song writing, breath management, music theory, or improved performance skills? Try a lesson. It's rewarding and fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
I have a warm down to earth approach to voice lessons. I'm laid back and very patient. This doesn't mean that I'm not demanding of my students. I'll help you find the best way to find practice time and enjoy the journey. In a few weeks you'll notice an easier time hitting those higher notes. In a few months you'll be singing songs with more freedom. You'll learn breathing, tone quality, how to increase range and power. We'll also work on performance and making a song all your own.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Both studios have a full PA system for singing on mic. Recording lessons or songs is also possible.

*** Specialties ***
music theory, voice, singing, speaking, beginning piano, performance skills
I specialize in jazz though I don't have much call for that. I'm good with most styles except Rap & Opera.
I am a believer in Speech Level singing. I combine methods of Caesari and the methods that both Musician Institute & Los Angeles Music Academy use.

Learn to sing and have fun doing it! I follow your lead! After conducting an initial knowledge assessment, your lessons will be individually catered to your strengths and weaknesses so that we can build up your vocal skills and confidence, and help you wow crowds!

About Susan
I have been performing since the age of three. At the age of seven, I began classical vocal lessons. When I was 13, I moved my vocal training at the local University becoming the youngest classical vocal student.

After years of participating in musical theatre productions, I landed a job in a guitar shop that lead to a big shift in my musical interests. I left my small town, the theatre and my classical background behind and began fronting both Country and Rock bands, even singing along side Juice Newton, The Oak Ridge Boys, Glen Campbell, Sugarland, and Trick Pony on stage at the Porterfi
eld Country Music Festival in 2005, which has in years past drawn nationally known country music artists such as Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, and Loretta Lynn.

At age 19, I had an acoustic act which landed me a guest spot on 'The Tyra Banks Show.' I have been a featured performer at Chicago's House of Blues, as well as some of the most popular hotspots in Wrigleyville.

In most recent years, I have been behind the scenes as a vocal coach in Chicago, eventually moving to Southern CA.
I have four children, my youngest daughter has Down syndrome, and when I'm not singing, I'm an outspoken advocate for children with disabilities.

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are looking to learn to project, or how to make it through an entire show without blowing your voice--I'm your gal! Because I cater to all experience levels, I like to focus on individual goals of the student and build on those.

The biggest thing that I hope to give my students, is confidence. Whether or not music becomes a career for them, or just something to help get them through their day-- my goal is to show them that they can learn something new, they can accomplish things that they never thought they could do, they can sing for friends, join a band, play a challenging song, sing the high note they never thought they'd hit.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Simple PA set-up.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide everything. If there is a particular piece that you want to work on that I don't have, I ask that you provide that.

Suzie is extremely knowledgeable

Suzie is an amazing teacher! I am so impressed with her knowledge of music! In just the short time I've been taking voice lessons I can feel my voice getting stronger. She has taught me the correct way of breathing, projecting and standing. She's always giving me positive feedback, which is so helpful. I would recommend Suzie to anyone who is serious about taking voice lessons!

Susan is an amazing teacher

I haven't had too many classes with Susan but already I feel more confident in my voice. She has taught me so much about the correct way to breathe and the way to keep the right tone while you sing. I thought that taking lessons with someone over skype wouldn't be very effective but I was totally wrong because Susan is so prepared and sends you warm ups and also instrumental music for the song you are going to work on before your lesson. She makes sure to give positive comments as well as critiques so you won't feel uncomfortable or feel like you're a bad singer. I am so happy that I picked Susan and I would recommend her to anyone!!

A certain degree of music theory is recommended for this subject, but not required based on student preference. I have over 20 years experience and professional training that tailors the instruction to the weaknesses and strengths of each student.

About Matt
Please copy and paste this link to check out my YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQDiOf3WMT9wBlprkMVJd1Q

With most of my music students, we focus on several key areas to ensure success of overall technique and knowledge: WARM-UPs, SCALES, MUSIC THEORY, SIGHT-READING, and PREPARED SONGS. I tailor my approach and style to each student. Although I'm very detail-oriented with lessons and followup, I'm constantly in search of finding FUN ways to make sure the student is enjoying the journey. I also prefer to work on a song that the STUDENT wants to learn. It's music, and it s
hould be fun!

Please review the rest of my profile and send me any questions or concerns you may have. If I don't think I can be the best teacher for you, I will gladly refer you to someone else on Takelessons or elsewhere.

I've been a lifelong musician, and love finding unique and fun ways to motivate my students. I've worked with most styles of music before, and arranged music for many as well, so I'm very comfortable helping students with a variety of disciplines and interests. My professional experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me an open-minded yet direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW to develop each student's individual skills. I'm able to teach most students to an advanced level.

My 7-year old daughter Kelsey has been receiving piano and vocal instruction from Matt for several months now. This is her first time taking music lessons, and already she is perfecting her first piano song, as well as a couple of songs she has learned to sing. In her own words, Kelsey describes Matt as a "kind and responsible teacher who always makes sure his students do the right thing, and is a great teacher." We are very thankful to have found Matt, and he is well qualified to teach a music student of any age.
