About Erasmo
Hello Parents and Students,

I have been teaching and writing music professionally for ten years. My first introduction to music was just like some of you, starting in high school where I had a great teacher that encouraged me to play. This helped me so much, and I wouldn't be where I am at if it weren't for his help and positive encouragement. Now I try to encourage all of my students the same way.

After high school I went on and played percussion with various Orchestras such as the "œInland Valley Symphony Orchestra" and "Mt. San Jacinto Symphony Orchestra."

I have also been involved in the DCI (Drum Corps International) and Drumline community. I toured for four years and experienced performing with groups such as Yamato Drum and Bugle Corps 2002-2005, Black Knights 2006, and RCC marching and winter percussion under the direct
ion of Scott Johnson & Jeff Lee in 2002, and Sean Vega & Jim Wunderlich in 2003.

During my college years I started playing Jazz Vibraphone in my school'™s top big-band. This allowed me the opportunity to play Jazz Piano which I have performed and still study until this day. As a result, Jazz has now become one of my biggest passions.

As a Professional International Composer, I have had the privilege of writing and arranging for many marching bands, wind ensembles, and indoor percussion ensembles, including orchestrations, recordings and sequencing projects for media, and musical theatre in the United States and Japan.

I am also currently an adjudicator for the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) and a member of the Vic-Firth Education Team.

I hope that this gives you a close and personal Idea of where I come from and hope that I can help you get the most out of your experience with music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that in order for you to get the most out of our lessons it takes both, the Teacher'™s and Student'™s understanding and attention from both ends. sometimes giving all of the information in the world won't help if one there is no engagement and two if me as a teacher don't make sure that you understand. So I like to make sure to explain things in more than one way to make sure the student understands the concepts and what to practice.

I like to keep a relaxed atmosphere, but also making sure that there is a high level of professionalism and expectation of attentiveness from the student.

Of course, I also understand that this all depends on the age of the student, and as we meet and get to see what it is that you want to focus on and I will make sure to concentrate on that and help you reach your goals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Mallets, Concert and Marching Sticks, Metronome, Practice pad, and Literature.
(Acoustic and Electric Piano are available depending on the time we arrange our lessons at the studio)
(Electric Drumset Available soon)

*** Travel Equipment ***
Mallets, Concert and Marching Sticks, Metronome, Practice pad, and Literature.
(I sometimes bring additional implements, such as hand drums, like a djembe and other accessories, depending on the focus of our lessons.)
I may be able to bring a Keyboard upon request

*** Specialties ***
I have been performing with Drum and bugle corps since 2002, (DCI)

Marching Rudimental, and Concert Percussion styles. All Percussion.
Orchestral, Marimba, Vibraphone, and Marching Percussion.

I specialize in the Jazz genre, and have performed Jazz piano.. which includes sight-reading and chord recognition in the Jazz idiom.

About Omar
Knowing that you are looking for a instructor to teach you music puts a smile on my face. You see, music has been a part of my life since the age of 3. Some of my first memories are of me accompanying my father at home with his rehearsals or just singing together to have fun as a family. I believe music is a gift that unites people together bringing out our deepest emotions that words cannot express. At the age of 5 I received an organ and from that point on I embarked on a long life journey to indulge and learn more about music. In elementary, junior high and high school I was involved in any subject dealing with music. I joined school choirs, orchestras, bands, marching bands, jazz bands, musicals you name it. While enjoying all school music activities I was selected to join in honor county and state orchestras and choirs. In junior h
igh and high school I was selected to play for the Junior Pacific Symphony Orchestra, received scholarships to music summer camps, and was selected musician of the year. In college my quest continued with the Orange Coast College Orchestra, Praise Symphony Orchestra, Vanguard University Orchestra as well as guitar ensembles and college choir groups. I've also taken private lessons from Dr. Art David (Julliard graduate) in stand up bass as well as David Black (Pacific Symphony Orchestra) and classical guitar with Richard Glenn and David Murray. I've been teaching now for 15 years in guitar, classical guitar, bass guitar, stand up bass, cello, piano and voice ranging from 5 yr old to 65 yr old. My styles of music range from classical, jazz, rock, blues and contemporary. At this point I'm enjoying playing and singing in my church choir and worship team as well as teaching my two kids the joys of music. I hope you truly enjoy the joy of learning music whether it be through me or another teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher I require all students to set time aside to practice. For without it, it is only wasting your time, your money and my time. I don't expect a total dedication to it but I do want to see some effort put into it. A little practice can go a long way and the more you do it, the faster you will progress and the more you will enjoy it. We will first start off with what you want out of music and the level you are at and go from there. Student can bring their own music either thru tabs, music sheet or just by ear but one thing I do expect is a student to learn how to read music notation. We will go thru the regular warm up exercises, material practiced during the week and any new music for the following week. Correct techniques in how to hold your instrument or voice procedures will be addressed. Music theory will also be part of the lesson as well as ear training. At the end of either 3 to 6 months you will have learned the basics of music and will be playing songs for you or someone else to enjoy. I will make it a total relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere but some dedication has to put on the students' part.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated music room, guitar both classical and electric, piano, cello, upright bass and electric bass guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own instrument. I can also provide music stand, small amplifier if needed and music material for the first few lesson until student provides for him/her self. Student must have own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
My way of teaching would have to be that they must learn how to read music while learning how to play an instrument.

A fun, friendly, and professional Music Instructor at your service for Voice, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums, & Ukulele! I have a BA degree from Florida Atlantic University in Music Performance for Classical/Flamenco/Jazz/Blues guitar and I've also performed on the Piano/Keyboards for a couple different bands too. Love to play & teach pretty much all styles of music! It is always a pure joy & truly rewarding to see my music students grow and flourish in their musical abilities. I have been enjoying doing this now for 20+ years- all ages & levels. I am also in a multi-dimensional rock project and a recording artist with my band Vision.

I believe it's important to learn the rudiments of music to build a good foundation (scales, chord vocabulary, theory, song-composition, performing techniques), but I also base the lessons on whatever th
e interests and strengths are for the student. For example, if you enjoy jazz more than classical we'll focus more on what you are particularly passionate about. I have also been a part of School of Rock Programs in which we provided performances for the students a la Jack Black. Please contact Takelessons to let the musical journey begin...

We have had 3 months of piano lessons with Tony for my sons, ages 7 and 9. He is a fantastic teacher! Not only have my kids made great progress with learning how to play the piano, they have also made huge strides in their understanding of music. I am thrilled with how much they have learned in a short time! Getting my kids to practice between lessons was a struggle in the beginning, but this has improved over time because they enjoy their lessons so much. I told them I was writing a review for Tony, and asked for their feedback. They said: "He is nice, and kind, and one of the best teachers ever!" "He is patient and kind, he helps a lot, is very fun, and he wants me to work hard, which is a good thing!"

About Lia
I am a professional jazz vocalist, voice teacher, session singer, and bunny mom. I grew up around music and have loved to sing for as long as I can remember. I believe that exposure to music is the best way to learn how to do it. My parents are both singers so, naturally, we sang together around the house, in the car, etc.

I believe this exposure is what gave me the drive to become the performer and teacher I am today. Hands Down. I started out singing show tunes with my dad and classic rock/rock with my mom. I taught myself how to play guitar in middle school and this is when the solo-performer in me really started to develop. High school gave me choral music and folk/pop and college gave me jazz. Jazz is my main gig. I have been singing jazz music since 2010 and transformed into a full fledged jazzer along the way.

I believe th
at doing what you love to do can transform your whole outlook on life and work. I do what I love and that is all I can ask for.

I'm a female heavy metal singer and took 12 years off to raise a family so I needed help with pitch, power, control, strength, and development with my upper range and Lia delivered. What I was not expecting--and was pleasantly surprised by--was her additional instruction on adding more emotion through specialized breathing techniques and helping me move out of my comfort zone and attempt to tackle much tougher material. For someone so young in years, she is an old soul and has so much amazing experience to teach from. I've also seen her perform live covering extremely difficult songs and was blown away...even brought tears to my boyfriend's eyes when she sang his song request perfectly. I did not know her prior to my lessons. I met her randomly by emailing my local music store and inquired about lessons. She is worth every penny and I highly recommend her.

I would like to highly recommend Ivan Shallal as a music teacher for children. Ivan is a gifted piano teacher. He is very well-respected in Rochester Hills and Troy, Michigan. This community is extremely fortunate to have a music teacher of his caliber to teach in this area.

Ivan is passionate about music. His love for the art is evident in his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He is exceedingly patient with all students, encourages them, and coaxes the very best effort from each one. Although he is one of the best music teachers in the zone, his prices are extremely reasonable. In my opinion, he is worth every penny he charges, and I certainly believe I have received excellent service for my money.

It is my great pleasure to recommend Ivan Shallal as a music teacher. I am tremendously grateful to him for everything he has taught my daughter.

Ivan was the piano teacher for my 3 boys ages 14, 12 and 7 years old for about 2 years. Before Ivan, my kids lost interest in learning and practicing piano. Ivan was able to engage their interest and make them love practicing. He encouraged them to pick music from famous songs or movies which helped to attract their attention. My kids looked at him as a role model. It was a pleasure having him as their piano teacher. He is a great one. It was a big loss for us when he moved out of the state. He is highly recommended.

I come from a musical family, my grandmother was an Opera signer at the Metropolitan in New York for a season before getting married, this was in the early 1900s. So I had musical training from an early age at the house hold. Later in grade school I learned to play the flute because my mother refused to buy me a drum set. It was not really my instrument though.

Then I started playing the electric bass guitar at roughly 11 or 12 so I could perform in a friends punk rock band. I kept up with it as I grew up and in my 20s I purchased my from contra or double bass, sometimes also known as a upright or stand-up bass. Although I had a day job I lead and performed with an impromptu jazz group known as the Wise Men of Gotham, once I lost the day job I started touring with cover and review or tribute bands. Eventually the drummer of the band whic
h was my main staple for money broke his collar bone so I applied for a music scholarship and went to college in my mid-twenties.

While in college I received not only my first formal bass lesson but also started managing small jazz combos and we even recorded an album. Meanwhile I was touring the south of the USA with a blues band. Unfortunately the college I obtained a scholarship to did not offer Classical orchestra and so after a few years I left college after auditioning for and making it into the Fort Worth Civic Symphony Orchestra in Texas. While playing for them I became a musical director at a local synagogue and learned from the Cantor about musical notation predating the form used today which was adapted by the Monk Gregory.

I left the Symphony and Texas in my late twenties venturing off to tour Europe playing in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Switzerland before heading back to Stockholm Sweden and setting up came there for the next year. At that point in my career I had started to perfect singing and playing bass at the same time. The only cover I knew by heart at first was a Bob Dylan song, "Call Letter Blues" and a Swedish diplomat requested I sing it a lot because it reminded him of the Vietnam Era.

The following year I left Sweden, Bob Dylan won a Nobel Prize (which are awarded in Stockholm Sweden), and I began work on writing up my musicology research on Siegel Harmonics. The foundational study I published in my early thirties after completing the blind peer-review required to publish an academic journal.
