Music
Jenny comes from a very musical family and started piano when she was five years old. She grew up constantly listening to her father practicing his guitar and brother practicing violin. Since then, her accomplishments include an Honorable Mention at the Korea Times Youth Music Competition. She has performed in two solo recitals and has performed biannually with the Beverly Hills Chamber Orchestra. Jenny has participated in the Frederic Chopin Felix Mendelssohn Minifest 2005 and has regularly performed at the Colburn School of Performing Arts from 2003 - 2008. Jenny was also a part of the Goldcoast Chamber Music Festival and was awarded the second prize at the Chamber Music Walker Competition. She has excellent communication skills and has worked as an assistant to the Program Coordinator at Montecito Summer Music Festival while al
so participating as a performer. In addition to her musical abilities, Jenny has received many academic honors as well. She is a member of the Agoura High Chapter of the California Scholarship and is also on the Dean’s List at the University of Southern California. She graduated from USC with a BA in Music and emphasis on Piano.

Jenny started teaching neighborhood kids while she was in high school and has continued to inspire her students throughout her academic studies. She strives to make every lesson different, tailored to individual student’s needs, whether he or she is a beginning toddler or in need of advanced technique.

Dance
Jenny has always had a passion for the performing arts. During her years at USC, she discovered Latin dancing. She has performed, choreographed, and taught for USC's Latin dance team Break On 2 and is still involved. She has participated and performed at numerous salsa and bachata festivals/congresses.

*** Lesson Details ***
Music
As a teacher, I try to make music learning as fun and well-rounded as possible. Every student is unique, and I try my best to accommodate every individual's needs. I encourage students to always ask questions, no matter how silly it might sound, and to trust me to help you achieve your goals. I encourage students to tell me their favorite songs and genre of music and use the knowledge to help keep them motivated, to remind them that learning is fun.

For all ages and levels, I prefer to incorporate music theory as part of the learning process. It allows the student to see the how and why, to not only feel music but also understand it. If your goal is primarily playing oriented, I will, of course, adjust my teaching style to fit your needs.

I learn something new from every student, love seeing my students improve and gain confidence in themselves. I ask that students come with an open mind and be prepared to make mistakes because no piece is perfect and neither are lessons. Lessons give you the opportunity to make mistakes without judgement. You can trust me to always have a positive attitude, it is OK to make mistakes, but practice to play better, and enjoy the feedback to see yourself improve! Learning piano does not happen in a few lessons and is a lifelong rewarding process. I hope to see you treat music with respect, so let's make beautiful music together!

Dance
I also provide choreography for wedding dances (couples, father/daughter). My main focus is on the social aspect of Latin dancing, such as salsa, bachata, merengue, and cha cha. Thus, I will only take students who are able to go out dancing to studios, restaurants, and clubs, meaning 18+ individuals or groups. Every week, I will provide new, cool, and stimulating choreography that supplements technique while developing your own unique style. I love to see my students out on the dance floor, implementing moves learned and having fun! Dancing is a healthy, joyful activity. Get ready for a confidence boost and let's get your heart pumping!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music - Upright piano and teaching/practice materials.
Dance - Music playing device, carpet.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Music - Student should have a keyboard or piano and practice related materials. Dance - Ladies should have secure, comfortable heels. Gentlemen should wear non-rubber soled shoes. Preferably wood or laminate floor. Carpet is ok but will have a harder time developing technique. Also should have some sort of stereo or speaker system, a computer is OK if it is loud.

Piano: All Ages and All Levels. Classically trained. Encourage students to incorporate favorite songs/genres of music be it rock, pop, jazz, etc.

About Nicolas
Hello there!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2 years. During this time, I was able to take lesso
ns from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

I have to admit, starting violin lessons as an adult is really weird, but it's something I've always wanted to try. I tried another teacher on here and she was a bit impatient and short with me (how does she teach children??!), so I tried Nick due to his location from my home. He's been fantastic! He's a great combo of being patient, caring, and encouraging, but also stern enough to get me to do what I need to get better. I'm sure it's not easy working with an adult that can "talk back" haha. He clearly knows what he's doing and he helps motivate me to keep learning. And he's very understanding when I run a tad late sometimes. I imagine he'd be great with kids too if he's great with a difficult adult like me.

I continued to study throughout high school and eventually college. I graduated in music from The Ohio State University. It is incredibly important for students to have a general understanding of music theory, regardless of their instrument. Music theory is the core of the music that we play and listen to, and it is a vital part of every student's music education. The purpose of music theory is to show students how music works, and for that reason, every music student should be exposed to it at some level.

Having started piano at the age of 7, I was taught music theory at a very beginning of my music education. I studied it throughout my childhood and into my collegiate years. I can teach this subject in detail and help the student develop a clear understanding of the music that they read and play.

About Sheila
My interest in music began at the age of seven when I began private instruction in classical piano, and by the age of ten, I began playing the flute. I received my Bachelor of Music with a degree in Music Education from the University of Redlands, where I studied flute with Sara Andon. There, I performed in the university's Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Orchestra. During my third year at university, I studied abroad at the Zoltan Kodaly Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemet, Hungary.

In 2013, I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Masters degree in Flute Performance where I studied flute with Sandra Kipp. At CSUN, I performed in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Northridge Flute Quartet, and various chamber ensembles. I currently reside in Irvine where I teach private flute and
piano lessons and perform with local ensembles.

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal as a music educator is to foster excellence in the art of music through private instruction. I have worked with students of all ages ranging from 5 to older adults.

In my studio, students will have a well rounded music education. This means that we will work on a variety of things such as sight reading, music theory, music history, and a wide range of repertoire (from Beethoven to the Beatles!) While I have high expectations for my students, I do my best to keep the lessons relaxed and lighthearted. My hope is that the student is always engaged and interested during lessons.

My three expectations:

1. Come prepared both mentally and physically (this is especially important for flutists-- make sure to warm up prior to the lesson!)

2. Don't be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes. This is non-threatening territory, I'm here to guide you and help you. Remember that mistakes happen, we're human. Just be sure to learn from those mistakes so that you can take something away from each experience.

3. For parents-- BE INVOLVED! I can't tell you how often I've seen younger students excel when their parents were proactive in the experience. This means encouraging them to practice, coming up with a rewards system, and even sitting in on the lesson to take notes. This way, you can reinforce what we accomplished during the lesson at home together. It's difficult for music teachers to compete with iPads, Playstations and television, so let's get creative together!

*** Required Materials ***
Flute students must own a well maintained flute, as an instrument that is out of adjustment causes frustration and can initiate bad habits. In addition, the student must also have a metronome and tuner, a music stand, flute repertoire, and an assignment book for me to write down each week's assignments.

Piano students must have a working acoustic piano or digital piano in their home for piano lessons. The student must also have a metronome, piano repertoire, and an assignment book for each week's assignments.

I have been teaching for over 20 years. I am a singer-songwriter-guitarist and performer. A native born Southern Californian, her life focus has always been music, from her beginnings as a little girl in the church choir to playing guitar in her first all girl band by age 12. She received her formal vocal training with Pollyanne Baxter at Cal State Los Angeles, where she received her BA in Music. I'm passionate about music and its many benefits, both academically, emotionally, and physically. Classical instruction is essential for proper technique, but branching out to Celtic fiddle or movie soundtracks is a definite option!

No student and no musician can truly understand music without understanding music theory. Playing the piano without knowing the notes is like trying to read a book without knowing the letters. I teach music theory simultaneously in all of my music related classes. This class is a great choice for students who already have basic knowledge of music theory and want to improve their skills and become advanced in the subject and/or are struggling with the basics and want to improve.

About Regina
At the age of fifteen, Ms. Regina graduated with honors from the Z. Paliashvili Special Music Gymnasium for Gifted Children in Tbilisi, Georgia. As a student of a famous Georgian pianist, Tengiz Amirejibi, she presented her country in numerous competitions. (Tengiz Amirejibi was a student of Heinrich Neuhaus, a famous Russian teacher and pianist.)

As a child, Ms. Regina gave many solo recitals and concerts with the Georgian Symphonic Orchestra. Ms. Regina earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts with emphasis on Advanced Piano Performance from the Yerevan State Conservatory. After graduating, she worked with talented children in her alma mater for many years. Later in her professional career, Ms. Regina taught at the Tbilisi State Conservatory as well as the Moscow Music Gymnasium.

With more than eighteen years of professional teachin
g experience, Ms. Regina is able to offer her students a diverse range of educational resources. She specializes in teaching piano, performance, and music theory to students of all ages and levels.

Ms. Regina's teaching techniques are based on a combination of the famous Russian Music School (based on music giants such as Konstantin Igumnov, Daniel Barenboim, and Heinrich Neuhaus) and the American Music Education System. This combination allows each student to work at a pace comfortable for him/her, and helps all students make significant progress in the areas of sight reading, ear training, and performance skills.

She has been giving voice lessons and songwriting workshops for around 5 years since she graduated. She teaches a full range of subjects, including ear training, music theory, beginning keyboarding & accompanying skills, vocal health, vocal technique, the Alexander Technique, choreography for performance, relaxation techniques, developing proporioception/interoception as well as an emotional and energetic awareness for a better interpretation of songs and optimal vocal quality. She also gives songwriting workshops and mentors/co-writes with her students so that they are able to master their songwriting skills and develop them as artists.

My daughter is taking lessons from Stephanie, who is patient and targets specific areas that my daughter needs to work on. I have definitely seen the an improvement through the lessons. I cant stress this enough, Stephanie is an amazing teacher.

This incredible women helped me hit a note that I never thought I’d even touch in my life, and then had me sing this note (as well as the song that accompanied it), in front of many people that I had never met before.

Amazing.

During her lessons, she had me singing from places I never knew you were supposed to sing through-- my gut, my lungs, my throat, and most difficult for me, my eyes She had me practice breathing, and often had me singing the silliest warm ups, to put all of this practice to the test. It took a lot of time and a lot of experience to distinguish those subtle differences and really understand their importance. Stephanie was so patient and so encouraging. She always took the time to make sure I understood what I was doing, and she never ran through a lesson without knowing how I was. She created a space where I could be vulnerable - where I didn’t feel embarrassed to sing a note (way the heck) off key. Even though we never formally practiced this, in the mix of all the other invaluable lessons she gave me, Stephanie taught me how much of a difference it makes to sing from the heart. I don’t think another teacher could have compared.

Stephanie is the vocal teacher you want! She tailors your lessons to what you want to work on and has a great home studio. She both challenges and encourages you at the same time. And she's affordable too. Voice lessons can be an expensive racket in LA and I'm so glad I found Stephanie!
