Experienced teacher of 30 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages. I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical skills. I specialize in classical music and provide multiple playing opportunities for my students throughout the year.

About Angela
EDUCATION

My musical education began while sitting on my mother's lap as she taught piano lessons. I began studying cello with a member of the Kansas City Philharmonic at age 9, and at age ten, I followed in my mother's footsteps to play the flute. I played all three instruments, (piano, cello and flute) until high school when it was became clear to me that I wanted to be an orchestra teacher. With this dream in mind, I began playing the violin as well.
I graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor's in Music Education in 1989 and again in 1999 with a Master's degree.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE

As a youngster, I was the youngest member of the Kansas City Youth Symphony and the Kansas City Cello Choir performing with these two groups for eight years. I was chosen from applicants nation wide, to perform in Carnegie Hall and trav
el Europe with "America's Youth in Concert" and I was a three time All-Stater.

While attending Drake University, I played in the Drake University Orchestra and the Des Moines Symphony, and I was the winner of the Young Artist Competition awarding me the honor as featured soloist with the Drake Symphony Orchestra.
In 1993 I began playing with the Encore String Trio. This trio plays on a regular basis for weddings and receptions.
I currently play cello in the Encore String Trio, and viola in the Long Beach Community Orchestra.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience includes nearly 30 years of private teaching. I've had the pleasure of teaching all areas of music; elementary general music, band, choir and orchestra. During my 20 years of teaching orchestra in the public schools, I implemented many innovative opportunities for my students such as children's concert which drew more than 700 people in attendance, strolling strings, cello choir and a viola choir, all of which proved to be very motivational for the students. My goal of teaching is to make music fun for all.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe music should be fun. I provide you with several playing opportunities throughout the year, ranging from solo to group playing. I provide large group playing opportunities at Christmas and at the recitals. Every group playing opportunity is accompanied with food and games for all. This studio is FUN!

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are studying for recitals, competitions, a music career or just for fun, you can expect equal attention to technique and musicianship in your lessons.
Lessons will be tailored to each students needs which may include flash cards, supplemental materials, ear training, sight reading, technical studies, scales, and solo work.
You are never to old to learn to play an instrument. Over half of my students are adult beginners. Because of this, I provide group playing opportunities and I organize a solo ensemble contest for my students. This gives opportunities to the adult beginners that they missed out on as a child. You will have a lesson by yourself, monthly mini recitals in my studio, and you will have the opportunity to play orchestra music as a group all right here in my studio. You are guaranteed to learn how to play your instrument, have fun and gain great friendships here in this studio. I'm looking forward to introducing you to our studio family.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The teachers studio is in a large room with multiple windows for natural light. The room includes instruments and stands in the middle of the room.

*** Specialties ***
I use the Suzuki method books. I am a classical player and I teach classical music.

About Carmen
Carmen has been teaching music for 10 years to children and adults, from age 4 to 50. She is able to teach many genres of music to all levels of musicianship, whether beginner or advanced, whether they want to learn Mozart or Coldplay, Aretha Franklin or Joni Mitchell . Her style of teaching utilizes the classical approach of theory and sight reading, but MOST IMPORTANTLY allows the student to explore the instrument freely while also achieving good musicianship. Having fun while honing the craft is the way to an enduring love of playing and is a principle she always uses in her lessons.

Carmen has a special gift with very young children; she is able to keep children interested, engaged, inspired and challenged. She has a patience with children that is extraordinary because she believes strongly in the ability of music to enrich child
ren's lives in all areas and seeks to cultivate that within the child.

Adults also find it easy to learn from Carmen's teaching approach. Her ability to approach a students challenges with a multitude of learning techniques has been useful in helping students succeed. She teaches skills and techniques for practicing that are useful for musicians through out their lifetime. Carmen also knows exactly what it takes to make a student a professional who is ready for studio session work, live band performances, live improvisations, auditions or creating their own music. She understands the desire and drive behind wanting to create with music and emphasizes certain key aspects that can make musicians proficient in any genre when practiced

Education

Carmen comes from a long family lineage of musicians and artists. Always being exposed to classical music and opera since birth, Carmen was in awe of the power of the human voice through opera. At 8 she began to study the art form and teach herself music. She started studying with teachers at age 11. After learning voice, piano and cello followed. While studying classical techniques, she also taught herself other genres of music which enabled her to play, record and perform with musicians of almost every genre by 19.

Carmen has been taught and trained by many professional working musicians of impressive musical carrer heights Her former opera/ vocal coach Shonie Lebie attended The Julliard School on a full scholarship before going on to The Metropolitan Opera House. Piano teacher Shoshana Ben Horin, a graduate of Prague Conservatory of Music and concert pianist, toured all of Europe before instructing Carmen in piano. Carmen has learned cello and other string instruments from professional working musicians here in Los Angeles.

Experience

Carmen is a current working session musician, songwriter and performer in Los Angeles. She has performed and recorded with musicians from The Gap Band, Guns n' Roses, Whitney Houston, Vanessa Hudgens, Hayden Panettiere, etc. She was born and raised in Los Angeles.

Lily has been teaching violin to my 10 years old son for the past 10 months. We find her to be kind, patient, positive, and understanding. I have been playing piano for about 9 years now, but I have moved around a lot during that time, so I haven't really had a consistent teacher. For the most part, I have had pretty good teachers but as I started off pretty young, I wasn't really pushed and challenged until I grew older. When I moved to Irvine a little over a year ago for high school, my dad was in search of a teacher and as soon as we found Anna, I was interested. Ever since then, I have grown so much as a piano player and she has taught me so much on my finger posture and techniques. My rhythm is something that I have always struggled with, but through her teaching and correction, I was able to develop and improve so much. I am so thankful for how flexible, understanding, and patient she is with me, but also that she continues to challenge and push me through every piece. If you really want to grow in your skills and techniques as a piano player, I would really recommend checking Anna out! I am so glad that I have been able to improve so much, even in 1 year :)

What students can expect to gain from my lessons: technical excellence + wholistic musical education + enjoyment.

I teach students of all ages, and welcome students with different musical (and non-musical) backgrounds. As a violinist and composer myself, I teach classical violin while nurturing my students through a wholistic musical education, empowering them to take control of, play, and enjoy various genres of music. My goal is to share and grow in my students a lifelong enjoyment of violin and music.

About Melody
I am a composer and violinist from Temple City, CA, and have been teaching private violin to students of various ages since 2016. I won 2nd place in the Satori Strings contest on the violin, years 2012 and 2014, and participated in the Certificate of Merit 2011 Branch Honors Recital for piano. I am a former member of Olympia Youth Orchestra (2010-2013) and Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra (2013). I composed and conducted “Courage” for string orchestra in concert at Temple City High School (2014), and continue to compose mainly for orchestra, keyboard, and voice. I currently play in the Azusa Pacific University Symphony Orchestra conducted by Christopher Russell as well as in the Azusa Pacific University Studio Orchestra under the direction of Mark Gasbarro, and continue to study violin in the studio of Dr. Alex Russell.

Because of
my background as a composer, keyboardist, and ensemble member, I teach students so that they will not only play the violin with technical excellence, but that they will also be able to understand, use, and enjoy music for life. My lessons are as relaxed or challenging as fit the students’ needs, and I teach students based on each of their unique strengths.
