I like to teach songs that a beginning guitar player will want to learn and should learn. Things that are not too hard at first then slowly build up your guitar playing skills. I you want to learn to read music I could do that too! It's up to the student. I will teach what you need to learn with a balance of fun and learning!

About Jena
Learn to SING, PLAY, WRITE. PERFORM and RECORD, The Whole Musician Way. Balance your life through Music.

From my songs, I am powerless to power-girl, I became a transformational singer/songwriter, coach, speaker, workshop host and author of the book, Change the World - Write Your Song! I have written songs since my teens and I found a kinship to writing songs that was driven by dynamics, power and the transformation music has to myself, to others and to the world. All I want to be is a transformational singer/songwriter and now teacher. It's my turn to help you write your song. Find your voice whether it be singing, playing an instrument, writing or performing. I teach the Whole Musician Way! It's way of life!

I have been writing songs for over 25 years. At 35, I returned to school and got an Associate of Art degree in music at Sa
nta Barbara City College and a Bachelor of Art degree in music at University California Santa Barbara. After receiving my degree from the University in 2001, I plunged back into my first love songwriting and started recording. In 2004, I released my CD, Faded Fiction. These were songs that I recorded in 1998, while attending school. Then in 2007, I released a second CD, The Ballad Of Calamity. In 2011, I self -published my first book, Change The World; Write Your Song! Book I - Fundamentals and beyond for the Aspiring Singer/Songwriter. I have been busy working on book II, writing songs, working for a non-profit After school program called, Girls Rock SB, teaching privately, singing and acting with Santa Barbara Revels, performing with my band The Stone Phoneys - Linda Ronstadt Tribute and recording.

Special note to the Parents of prospective music students:

Many doctors and scientist are also musicians because it is a creative craft stimulating a part of the brain that academics does not. Music will always be around and when you learn music you also learn; math, language, history, reading and science. Whether your child continues in music or not, the benefits of knowing music are documented.

Together with your child I will help them realize their greatness. They can learn so much about themselves just by writing their song. I have a unique perspective on the pre-teen and teen because that is when I began writing songs. If only I knew then what I know now! This is something I can do for your child. For me, songwriting was my escape and my therapy. I survived my troubled teens through music. And now I want to teach your child all I know. Combined with some performance opportunities! Your child will love it! Most of my kids get a kick out of my lessons. I am very patient and yet provide incentives to inspire motivation for the possibilities of great things.

I like to teach the "whole Musician" meaning if a student wants to learn voice and guitar or piano to accompany their voice or to help them write a song or help them complete a song I can teach them. Students will begin by learning songs they like by singing, playing and performing them with my guidance. What ever I know I will pass it on! I love to teach songwriting. I wrote a book and believe that songwriting is very therapeutic and easy to learn. I mostly like to teach a student by ear but can teach them how to read music too. I also love to teach how to perform, record and to find their best singing voice.

I recommend Jenna to all levels of learners!

I knew nothing about playing the guitar before my first lesson. She made me feel comfortable right away and was able to help me learn quickly. She also helped me with my singing at the same time. She let me pick the music I was interested in and gave me tips on how to learn at home too. She is also very nice and patient.
Thanks Jenna!

I took lessons with Steven for almost a year and I must say working with him has truly been a blast. I emailed Steven originally looking for help with my theory skills as well as both my acoustic and electric guitar playing and I have without a doubt gotten a hundred times better at all of the above. I have never been able to play a guitar solo before working with him and thought it would be months until I could even begin to think about that but right away he showed me the ropes and got me going. I was totally discouraged about my skill level because I’ve been wanting to major in music in college but started playing late in the game. However, Steven was nothing but encouraging through not only teaching me crucial musical skills but also sharing invaluable stories from when he was in music school leaving me nothing but inspired. Its often intimidating to meet a private instructor for the first time (I’ve met plenty of bad ones) but Steven is one of the nicest guys in the world and I can’t wait to continue lessons with him again once I have the time. Be sure to check out the Rivera Sunnarborg Duo live they are absolutely breathtaking! Have fun taking lessons and get ready for some nerdy music theory jokes!

Whatever style of music your guitar has to be Guitar was always been my first love. Knowing how to play all styles gives the flexibility to teach any genre of music. From finger tapping, sweeping to shredding and many other styles of Rock guitar can be learned. Having the correct technique will get you to your goals of Rockin' out.

About Scott
Scott has been teaching music for over 25 years. His method has evolved over time to meet the demands of changing musical styles and he has developed plenty of material to help students achieve their musical goals. His ambitions for each student are simple- he wants them to enjoy music and experience a sense of accomplishment from the learning process. In short, Scott works to make lessons fun and educational! Most beginning pupils will learn to play a song in the first couple of lessons. Handouts and music tracks are used to enhance the lessons.

Everyone is unique in how and what they want to learn. Scott uses positive encouragement to teach what is needed for the next step with the instrument. Students learn technique for dexterity, songs for the ear and theory so they understand the why's in music.

His training started at GIT (
Guitar Institute of Technology) in Hollywood where he gleaned 30+ yrs. of information from world renowned guitarists and musicians. Scott went on to graduate from Belmont University with honors in Composition and Arranging. Playing in Rock, R&B, Country, Classical and Jazz original and cover bands has enhanced his skills and made him a well rounded musician. He has the ability to teach these styles and make a living playing them.

Scott teaches all levels of students from beginner to advanced as well as the "signed artist" who have recording deals and need a little extra coaching. He has taught well known musician's family members and many of Scott's former students have gone on to make a career of their own in music as teachers, performers or composers.

"I enjoy music so much that it has always been a pleasure to pass on the knowledge of playing music."

I took weekly electric guitar lessons with Scott from 2004 to 2012. He is without a doubt an extremely talented, enthusiastic, and compassionate teacher. Whether he was helping me learn basic chords or teaching me complicated songs, Scott never wavered in his dedication to teaching. Over the eight years as his student, Scott gave constructive criticism in a courteous manner. He was on time, inquisitive about the songs and music I was listening to, and ended lesson with new material for me to practice. I wholeheartedly recommend Scott to any aspiring guitar student.

I have been a musician my whole life and therefore I understand many different aspects of musicianship beyond simply playing or teaching guitar. But I am also a patient, caring teacher who communicates ideas and techniques to my students in a way they understand. I am not rigid in my approach to teaching and I treat each student like the unique individuals they are. My students often stay with me for 6,8 10 years and former students return to me because I provide a resource to them that they cannot find anywhere else.

About Gene
I have been a musician for my entire life. Started Singing when I was 3, playing Bass Guitar when I was 11, Electric and Acoustic Guitar when I was 13 and recording and producing my own music when I was 17. I received my Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL in 1991. I opened my own Recording Studio in 1997 and have been a professional musician and producer for over 20 years now. I released my first album with my band in 2000. I performed weekly for 500+ people for over 15 years and have produced, recorded or performed on more than 50 commercial music CD releases.

My wide breadth of musical experience has proven invaluable for my students over the years. Being more than just a multi-instrumentalist gives me an exceptionally wide reservoir of knowledge for my stude
nts. I have had students stay with me for over 10 years and had multiple students take time away and then return to me as their knowledge and experience increased. My students stay with me because I keep them growing on their instruments and as musicians. Several of my students have gone on to careers in music and have credited me with developing the level of musicianship within them. I find that to be the greatest reward as a teacher.

I would be honored to help guide you on your journey as a musician. Please let me help!

I have always wanted to learn guitar but never had the opportunity, finally when I was 16 I bought my first guitar. I realized how hard guitar was, and almost felt embarrassed to learn. The guitar collected dust for almost 6 years, until September 2014, when I found Gene on Craiglist. I was very nervous as I had never played a day in my life and I was scared I would be terrible.. well I was! but Gene immediately made me feel comfortable with learning a new skill as an adult. He has been so patient through this long learning process and always encourages me to keep going and is good at pointing out my progress when I think I have not made any. Gene is just awesome, he is super caring and understanding. He has become more than just a guitar teacher, he is a friend. Whenever I am having a bad day I love that I can go to guitar, learn some awesome stuff and get out some much needed venting. He's like my guitar therapist! I honestly believe I wasn't meant to learn till I could learn from him! :D he's great and I would recommend him to anyone!!!

I’ve taken guitar lessons with Gene for over 5 years. My guitar experience prior to meeting Gene was very limited. So limited that I didn’t even own a guitar pic nor how to properly hold/use one. I never felt that I needed guitar lessons as I had taught myself many other hobbies in the past. “Practice makes perfect” was a motivational phrase I often told myself. It wasn’t till a failed audition at my local church that I realized my practicing wasn’t producing the results I had wanted/expected. I started working with Gene and immediately identified that a majority of my current abilities were based upon improper techniques.

I didn’t fully appreciate or understand proper technique as its affects were not always apparent in my playing. As my lessons progressed and technique improved, I realized that my motivational slogan wasn’t complete. I now say; “proper practice makes perfect”. Working with Gene got me back on track with learning to play guitar. I have confidence when practicing knowing that the time I’m investing is not being wasted on bad habits.

A lot has changed since starting lessons with Gene. I re-auditioned at church and made the worship team! I regularly played lead guitar at my church and was content with my playing ability. I decided to stop lessons as I now had a solid foundation and figured that I could pick up anything I didn’t know from online videos. This was one of biggest mistakes I’ve made.

Quickly after being on my own, I began to realize the lacking quality and musicianship in the countless “tutorial” videos found on YouTube. It’s easy finding online song lesson, however, it’s very rare to find someone teaching it correctly or true to the album. I remembered working with Gene and not only learning the EXACT riffs and leads to a song, but also the artist’s style, tone and effects used. Over the years I became accustom to learning and sounding just like the artist I was trying to replicate. This quality of instruction I have only been able to find while working with Gene.

I noticed that my interested in playing guitar faded after I ended lessons. I just didn’t have the excitement to learn new songs or challenge myself to play better on the ones I did know. After a long sabbatical I decided to start back up lessons with Gene. Fast forward a few years; I now look forward to practicing nightly and regularly play with multiple churches within the Denver Metro area.

I would not be where I am musically today without Gene’s guidance and inspiration. He’s a great mentor and continues to challenge me to be a better musician. Looking back, if I could change anything about my experience with Gene, it would be starting lessons with him sooner and never taken a break.

I've been taking vocal lessons with Gene once a week for about a couple of months now. I can, without reservation, recommend Gene as a teacher due to the following competencies.
A. Very knowledgeable in the subject matter - Gene has a wealth of experience, clearly knows music theory and has diverse musical background to draw from
B. Can explain musical concepts to beginners in an approachable and easy-to-understand fashion. I have no previous vocal training, and very little formal musical training altogether, and I find Gene's explanations easy to follow to understand.
C. Flexibility - Gene has been very willing to work with me, and remain an effective instructor on, for example, assessing my singing in Russian, a language he does not speak.
D. Results - After 7 classes, I feel Gene has provided me with practical instruction that, when applied, has resulted in improved singing .

Learning guitar requires a lot of patience and a good attitude. I focus on fundamental exercises to help any beginner guitar player reach an intermediate level. I cater my lessons to learn tunes that my students care about and love. I let them guide the work!

About Oliver
I specialize in upright bass, jazz bass, funk bass, bass technique, and rhythm. I will inspire a positive attitude and good practice habits that will help any student succeed. I’ve extensively studied jazz, latin jazz, funk, rock music, hip hop, bluegrass, folk, and composition.

I can also teach guitar, piano, drums, and voice. As a mulit-instrumentalist, jamming with my students is a priority. Being able to play with other musicians is one of the best feelings you’ll ever experience. I’m happy to take you there!

Recently, I helped one of my bass players get a scholarship to go to Berklee Summer Camp to study music.

I am very excited to continue my teaching on TakeLessons. I look forward to helping new students to become the musician of their dreams.

I've been playing professionally in Chicago for five years. I am currently
co-manager, upright bass player, and singer for an ambient-folk band, Sedgewick, based in Chicago. I play for a classical chamber pop group called the 9 Worlds Ensemble. I've played upright bass in the Frank Catalano and Jimmy Chamberlin (drummer for Smashing Pumpkins) super group and Bowmanville.

I was born and raised in Germany where I spent most of my life. As long as I can think I've always loved music, and soon after I got my first guitar at the age of 13 I started to write songs. I moved to the US in 2011 and worked as a music director for a local non denominational church for the last 6 years, working with and leading bands, playing acoustic and electric guitar as well as bass. About Patrick
Music is my life! I primarily play bass guitar for a living, but I also play drums in a rock band. Playing bass has taken me all over the US and to Europe twice. I live for the studio and, to me, the best memories are listening back to great music I got to record on. I love great sounding gear and good vintage instruments are fantastic! My main bass is a 1978 Fender P Bass that I've owned for 7 or 8 years. I also play the upright bass and I've had the pleasure of recording it several times. I really started playing music when I was 17 and within a year I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life. No matter what people told me, I never let myself get demotivated and I've stayed the course. I absolutely love teaching others how to do what I do!

Currently playing bass in a whole bunch of bands you haven't heard of yet. You
may have heard of Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat. I'm in Jim's band (when he's not busy playing second guitar with George Thorogood & The Destroyers!). I played with a blues rock guitarist named Lance Lopez for 2 years. I've gotten to hang out and record with Dug Pinnick of King's X. Done studio work all over Texas and in California. Performed with Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts former guitarist Nick Maybury. Backed up former Fleetwood Mac and Bob Seger guitarist Rick Vito. Besides teaching the student how to play his or her favorite songs, I can provide lessons in technique, reading music and tablature (so he or she can learn to play whichever song they want without the assistance of a teacher), fretboard knowledge and theory, improvisation, general music theory and composition (so that he or she can write his or her own songs), as well as general maintenance and repair, and practical knowledge regarding playing live, using and tweaking amps and foot pedals, etc. I use Guitar Pro 6 software as a visual aid, and can provide study sheets and notes in the form of Guitar Pro files (for the student who may have the program) or printed and/or .pdf documents (for the student who may not have the program).
