I am a classically trained opera singer (UCLA: BA Vocal Performance, Graduate Studies: École Normale de Musique de Paris) who performs in both classical (opera and choral) and non-classical musical settings (musical theater, jazz, and pop).

I teach from a very technical standpoint. Form and function, physicality, and basic science can teach you a lot about singing properly. My goal is to get the student to a point where they can teach themselves when they build their voice and the lesson becomes a weekly or monthly check in of the progress. As singers we want good results, but we have to focus on the process and the result will follow on its own correctly without forcing the result we want. This process of optimal sound and beautiful tone can take some time, but when the steps are taken correctly, the results become ideal.

About David

David W. has made numerous appearances across the country as an up-and-coming lyric tenor. Recent roles include Count Almaviva with "requisite Rossini high notes" (The Wall Street Journal) in Francesca Zambello's new production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia at The Glimmerglass Festival and Ernesto in

"Jordan is very skilled in Opera, Voice, and Teaching. She at once puts you at ease and quickly empowers you with knowledge and new skills. Although it may feel like baby-steps, you can hear and feel changes in your voice almost immediately . Studying Opera Voice is a long road of very hard work, so much to remember. There is a reason 4 year degrees are offered in it. But it is well worth it for those who have the stamina."

"It has been over a year with Troy and he is still the best instructor I’ve ever had. He is very patient and kind and making sure I’m performing to the best of my abilities. Although my work schedule has started to change, he has proved quite flexible. If we cannot find a time that I would like as a makeup or for change, he always makes sure I will get my class time in in a way that fits both of our schedules. Thankyou for everything you do, Troy. You’re the best!"

"It has been both a pleasure and a blessing for me to have Ms. Collver as my voice instructor. Within the first two lessons she was able to immediately recognize what we needed to work on the most in order to bring out the best of my voice and so she created a well developed plan that we have been productively working on. Furthermore, Ms. Collver, does a great job at making one comfortable and confident every step of the progress by making sure each concept she teaches is firmly grasped."

8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
