I was failing genetics and with online tutoring i went from a 69% to A. He really has your best interests in mind, when i asked him last minute to help and he was too packed helping other students he referred me to another well rounded tutor. dr. I just started nursing school at UCLA and had failed my first midterm. Dr. Z was really supportive and taught me how to study. He really knew how to teach the material. I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

Paul was my favorite teacher at the New York Film Academy.
Unlike most of the teachers, Mr. Paul put a lot of effort and creativity into planning his classes, which made them both stimulating and fun for us.
I also loved the fact that Mr. Paul always respected our opinions, and never made us feel stupid when we didn’t understand something. He was always very encouraging and willing to keep explaining until we got it.

I highly recommend him to anyone interested in extra lessons. He is definitely worth it!

An SAT score is more of a measure of preparation than it is of intelligence. Of course, a thorough understanding and competency of the math and English on the test is necessary. However, more important is the familiarity with and the development of time-management strategies for the SAT. Hello there! My name is Colin, and I have four years of experience tutoring math and science. I began tutoring on college campuses, but have most recently been tutoring students – ages 12 through 50+ – from all over the country through online video chat. I am a UC Berkeley biomedical engineering graduate, and as such, both math and science are a significant part of my daily life. In college, I excelled in mathematics up through differential equations, as well as in science classes such as physics, general and organic chemistry, general and molecular biology, and programming. In addition to my coursework, I was an undergraduate researcher in a bioengineering laboratory for three years. Here, I used a cutting-edge gene-editing technique, known as CRISPR, to correct DNA mutations in mouse models for muscular dystrophy. My work, along with th

My strong background in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) qualifies me to tutor math and science up through lower-division college courses. However, I believe that it is my genuine passion for STEM that makes me a good teacher of math and science.

As a tutor, my goal is not to impress students with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to impress my students by showing them how easily math and science concepts can come to them when they are presented the material in a straightforward way. The late physicist, Richard Feynman, posited that the ability to explain complicated ideas in a simple manner is the true mark of understanding. I agree with this assertion, and I make it my goal each tutoring session to explain even the most complex phenomena in a simple way, so that my student will come away from the lesson invariably understanding it. Additionally, I emphasize a strong understanding of the fundamentals, because both math and science are heavily inductive disciplines; many of the theorems and laws are founded on other, more fundamental principles. I have personally experienced the discouragement of trying to learn material that is beyond my foundation level, and so I can empathize with students who are in that boat. Fortunately, I have learned that the remedy is always a return to, and a strengthening of the basics. That is the approach I take with students who find themselves struggling in a course.

My online teaching platform is a “black board” drawing program that my students can follow along with as I explain concepts and solve problems. I simply share my screen with them during the session, and at the end, I take a screenshot of the notes and email it to my students for their reference. I hope this brief explanation of my qualifications and teaching style has provided a clear image of what you can expect from me as your tutor. Colin is absolutely amazing teacher!
Last time I studied math was 20+ years. I am 40 years old and about to finish my second degree CRJ, and like many others I left math class at the end. Taking the math prep test (which I failed) placed me almost in kindergarten..Lol! and I knew I needed help to re-learn math. I am so happy Colin answered my request (I sent 15 requests, and only 2 teachers answered). I wanted to start eating the study guide provided by CSN and just focus on the topics, but Colin wanted to show me the "why we have numbers, type of numbers, etc" definitely I wanted to fly before I could walk, and I am so grateful he had a different plan............because IT MAKE SENSE!
I mentioned I prefered to have a lobotomy (siks!) instead of facing math in my 40's because I never had a chance to understand math, I just digested the fact I was going to fail and obtain an "s" for grade. I am looking forward to like, learn, and comprehend math with Colin's help so I can graduate in December 2018.

One of the wisest teachers once said that poor grades, study habits, and test scores are not life-threatening, but they are college-, job- , career-, and quality-of-life threatening. The most competitive students take a pro-active approaching to academics and tutoring while the least competitive take a reactive approach. All you need to do is watching the documentary 'Two Million Minutes' by Bob Compton to realize why students in other countries such as India and China surpass American peers in almost every subject, especially language (writing, grammar, etc.), math, science, and engineering-related subjects. They attend extra classes and tutoring from 6-7 AM in the morning to almost midnight.

In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, there is simply too much to lose by not investing now in your child's or your education. If a student is struggling, it makes sense to get him/her the help needed so that the time spent in school is worthwhile. Great grades and test scores can open doors that may have been previously closed and are also significant factors when determining scholarships, so investing time and effort now can pay off substantially in the future. Finally, let's not forget the most important part in all of this: the student. The confidence, knowledge, and skills that a student gains through effective tutoring can last a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Every day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you might potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test/exam score that will only make it harder to recover from. I spent 10 years working for a test prep company in DC, the most competitive SAT/ACT region in the country, and now I'm a private tutor in Los Angeles. I'm a Johns Hopkins University graduate who has earned multiple perfect scores on the SAT. In the decade I spent working for a test prep company, I taught students of various abilities, ran prep courses, wrote class materials for all three subjects, advised families about every aspect of the standardized testing process, and gave SAT and ACT presentations at local high schools. I often work with students whose SAT scores don't match up with their grades, so if that sounds like you, don't worry! The SAT is a unique test that asks questions about familiar topics that you've learned in school, but it does so in a way that disguises those topics. For example, you might be staring at a Math question that makes you feel totally lost - like you don't even know where to start. In fact, you probabl
y have all the knowledge you need to solve it. My job is to help you get better at searching your brain for the right strategy.

I use real practice tests so that you can see more questions and get more comfortable with the format of the exam. But I've also written my own study materials that break the SAT and ACT down into manageable "packets". Each packet is meant to narrow your focus to a certain question type. I think you'll see pretty quickly that the SAT doesn't change all that much from test to test, so once you know how to recognize each question type, you won't be surprised when you see it on the next exam. That's why they call it a standardized test - the questions don't vary all that much!

By breaking the test down into manageable chunks, I can make it easier to learn the material because you won't have to memorize hundreds of formulas, grammar rules, and vocabulary words at once. Small goals are easier to achieve. And accomplishing those little goals will boost your confidence, making you more willing to try the hardest problems that you used to give up on. As you take practice tests, you'll see those scores go up, and you'll actually be excited for test day!
