I have tutored and taught English to English Language Learners and English as a Second Language students for ten years. I worked one on one with Mandarin, Hispanic, and Arabic students and families. I visited a number of universities and K-12 age groups while in China, teaching and tutoring at English Corners and study groups.
Often times I find that teaching English to internationals as well as English speaking students builds long lasting friendships and bonds between those who may have had former cultural and language barriers. I still keep in touch with the families and students that I tutored. Helping those who are looking for English tutoring and help is such a joy and pleasure to partake in. If you are wanting to pursue and refine your reading, writing, speaking and communication skills, you have found the right person to help you on your journey of learning! :)

I had a college language placement exam looming, so I signed up for 10 lessons with Susan to help me review and prep for the exam. I ended up testing out of two semesters of college-level German, which was even better than I had hoped for! I couldn't have done it without Susan. She was fantastic at explaining the tricky subjects, like accusative vs. dative cases, and helped me rigorously review all of the material. Plus, learning with her was fun, and I looked forward to the lesson every week.

I taught ESL for six years as a volunteer in a classroom setting. During those years, I was assigned beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses. I loved the enthusiasm ESL students brought to the class and their desire to learn English. I use a variety of textbooks and worksheets to enhance vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing skills. Aside from reviewing written exercises with students, I focus heavily on pronunciation during tutoring sessions.

Dan is an exceptional tutor. He tutored my son in 10th grade American Literature English. Dan actually went out and bought the books my son was assigned and read along with him to prepare for their lessons. He also edited all my son's essays, taught him some writing tricks, and dramatically improved his writing. I can't recommend enough.

Daniel is a fantastic teacher. He is patient, explains the information really well, and makes sure to tailor each lesson to my strengths and weaknesses. He is also really good at explaining complex concepts in super easy-to-understand terms. If you are looking for an amazing tutor who will help you understand and learn quickly, while boosting confidence, then Daniel’s the best tutor out there.
Kim
Dan is an exceptional tutor. My daughter is studying to become a teacher, and she struggled with the math section of the Praxis exam, which tests an overview of high school math. Dan worked extraordinarily hard, tutoring her twice per week. He rented practice books from the library, developed his own materials, and broke everything down for my daughter in simple terms so that she could understand. He was very patient and he worked through every problem she encountered. I can't thank him enough. Because of Dan, my daughter passed the exam, and she is on her way to becoming a teacher.

"Three months ago, I could not tell you what I'm about to tell you in Spanish. Mi maestra, Señora Nery es un maestro que tiene gran atención al detalle y se asegura de que deletreo y pronuncio cada letra perfecta.
She is the best at this job. I have had two teachers prior to her...she is by far the best. Thanks to her, my pronunciation is very good, my comprehension is very good. I will continue my lessons with her as soon as my schedule permits."

"Roman teaches my wife and two daughters (10 and 12 y.o.) ESL. I'm very delighted to see how enthusiastic are they about lessons and (even more surprising) the homework. For each of them Roman finds themes interesting to talk about and write about. Grammar and other boring stuff are taken needed care of, but main emphasis of lessons are on free talk."

"Marie to me is by far the best teacher on earth, better yet the best person I have ever met in my life. She was also my teacher in high school and I couldn't ask for a better human being to teach me about life, school and caring for others. she was always there for me even when I didn't want her to be. I guess you can say she was a second mother. She is kind, caring, understanding, and very passionate to teach her students. I promise you, having Marie as your teacher she will show you love, patience, and make sure if you have to, stay after school to learn and understand whatever subject that you are having problems with. I wouldn't say this if I didn't mean it, having Marie as your kids teacher will be the best thing for them. just make sure they don't get too close because she is that easily lovable and a great teacher."

"Lori had been teaching me for two years during my husband's international assignment. She quickly assessed my level of knowledge and built a training system that was necessary for me. She is an excellent specialist, she is attentive, punctual and professional. Classes were held in relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Also Lori made me familiar with American medical, educational and other social systems. This was a really great help for me and for my family. I highly recommend Lori as an ESL teacher."

ESL Learners: Are You Making These 21 Common Mistakes?

There are certainly some tricky words in the English language! And sometimes, people who have learned English as a second language mix up these words. Want to avoid making the same mistakes? Here are the words ESL learners misuse the most. Them, Those, and These "Them" is a pronoun that stands in the place of a plural noun. It is commonly used as the subject of a sentence, as in: Did you see them? or Have you seen the scissors? I used them to cut the labels off my T-shirts; now I can’t fin …
