About Jonathan
I am a graduate of the Wheaton Conservatory of Music with a B.Mus.degree in Piano and Composition, and have taught private piano and drum lessons for over 15 years. I have experience with children and adults of all ages. I've performed with many bands over the years (US and Europe) including Mavis Staples, Andrew Bird, Tim Booth, Mucca Pazza, Bobby Conn, The Detholz, and Paris Delane.

My approach to teaching is fun and varied according to students needs and personalities. I teach reading, ear training, theory, technique, composition, song writing, performance, etc...and want to work with students on music that THEY want to learn.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha full sized digital piano
Fender Jazz Bass
Fender Stratocaster Guitar
Recording computer with Komplete 6, Ableton, etc.
Rode NT1 Condensor mic
Shure SM57's, Shure Bet
a 52
Bell set
Melodica's

*** Travel Equipment ***
For in home lessons, it's important that students have the instrument(s) that we're working on; this could be a snare drum, an electric keyboard, piano, bass guitar and practice amp, etc.

*** Specialties ***
For young kids on piano, I've worked a lot with a couple of things, including James Bastien and Piano Adventures books, simple transcriptions of songs students know and want to play, simple ear training games, and things like 5 finger scales.

For older students, i get them into a more disciplined routine with exercises and theory, but also cater repertoire to their interests. My playing background is pretty broad, including classical (in the broad sense of the term) study and performance (recital and competition), and rock and roll, blues, jazz performance.

I get excited about teaching composition, songwriting, and any higher level theory.

Drummers get the rudiments, independence practice, style study, reading, transcription, etc. I do lots of hands only work, but incorporate full kit playing as early as possible knowing that for a kid (or adult for that matter), sitting behind a drumkit is a very exciting thing and you wanna play it all. As with piano, i do transcriptions of favorite songs/beats for students often. My background on drumset and percussion is broad as well, from orchestral to rock and metal to jazz and big band, etc.

in general, i like to know what music my students are into, and will try to include material in those realms in their studies.

A talented musician and teacher, who is genuinely responsive to his students' needs.

My son took piano lessons from Jon at a time when he wanted to experiment with different types of musical expression. Jon was extremely responsive to his needs, and worked with him on everything from improvisation, to jazz licks to a Brahms ballade. Jon understands that teaching music is not a "one-size-fits-all" endeavor, and draws on his wide range of musical experience to tailor a program that's right for your child. He is an extremely talented musician and a dedicated, caring teacher.

Jon is superb

My stepson took drum lessons with Jon for at least three years. I was impressed with my kid's progress on his drum set. Jon is so passionate about music, and I could see my son really connect to Jon easily. Jon was very available to discuss schedule changes and is a very nice down to earth guy. I highly recommend him.

Amazing teacher and all around phenomenal artist!

I took lessons from Jon for over 8 years, twice a week, including Jazz/Blues piano, voice, theory, and even drums. Let me first say that Jon is an all-around amazing artist that can master many instrument or genre of music. Taking lessons with him was something I looked forward to every week. He was an expert in all things jazz and blues, and really explained the theory and techniques well. I learned so much from him over those years that I can never repay. Unfortunately, he moved away to Cali, and I have not yet found a replacement that even comes close. I highly recommend Jon for music lessons in any instrument.

About Azuri
Learning is one of my main pursuits. My name is Azuri and I have studied music for over a decade and have my degree in guitar performance from musicians institute. I've had the gift of studying many artistic crafts and spend my time today trying to further my own study, while sharing what I've learned with my students.

Art is one of the most important tools we have as a culture and contains in it a shared history, tradition and the keys to future ones. Whether it be through the primal qualities of music or the impulses of dance, the records of drawing or descriptions of writing, these are the tools for our expression. I have had the great fortune to study, in many different settings, a small piece of these traditions and sharing them is paramount in respect to receiving them. I love sharing knowledge and I hope to elevate yours as a st
udent.

Teaching Philosophy -

My teaching philosophy is built on well rounded communication, explanation and examples. So, that a student can truly understand and learn a topic, surrounded in a very humorous, light and supportive environment.
Along with being provided good information, a student learns better and feels more motivated to learn when there is a balance of positive support and confidence building accompanied by constructive criticism and examples/information that can help a student assess what ever walls they may be meeting in their musical growth.

I understand that all students/artists have different goals they wish to achieve. So it is very important to me to accommodate each individuals needs and wants to help them grow in the fields they wish too; However, In that I have played music for a long time, I understand there are certain things that a student may not have been exposed to yet; It is important that while focusing on a students artistic goals they respect and are open to the suggestion and guidance of their teacher.

I truly believe music has an amazing influence on the world and has the ability to change peoples way of thinking. Therefore, I try and keep an open awareness to all music, so that I can understand all different musical languages utilized to communicate to people, and I don't believe I will ever know them all. I hold it to attention to influence my students somewhat similarly so that they can shape the landscape of how we communicate musically in the future.

I also try and be very patient with my students. Knowing that when I feel rushed, it makes information more difficult to comprehend, remember and allocate. I love watching the gears run in my students head, so I try and provide information that pushes a student but is within their abilities.

HUMOR is very important. I like to break people out of their shell by telling a joke and hopefully getting one back, so they feel more comfortable and free. One of a Artists worst enemies are nerves. Keeping things light-hearted and maybe even a little small talk can be very helpful to a students development and growth on a topic. After all, Art is meant to be fun and we should enjoy every moment of it, in fact we should enjoy every moment in life period.

I understand music requires focus and discipline and I have certain expectation of a student to understand that and practice. You can't buy chops, you can't buy music theory etc. you can get help but eventually your the one who must understand it and play it.

I am here to help you. Based on what I know and what I have extensively studied, I will do all that I can to help you achieve your musical goals. I am here to answer your questions and help you grow. I love teaching because I love sharing knowledge; As long as your seek it, it is here for you. Otherwise, I'd still love to hear some jokes.

I'm very disciplined but am also very light hearted. It's important for me to assess things seriously, so that one can understand a topic or piece of information.

I generate my lessons based on the individuals needs and therefore draw from various curriculums, sources and examples, such as : MI curriculum for ear training, Theory, Single string Technique, Reading, Rhythm guitar, Ted Greenes Chord Chemistry, Berklee Guitar Method, as well as The Real Book, other artist books(Eric Clapton, etc.) The Guitar Players Hand Book, Bach pieces and self developed curriculums, relative to the topic at hand and students personal goals, amongst many others.

-Beginning students within three months of consistent lessons should have the ability to solo and playing chords to songs that they are interested in and songs provided in the lesson along with a basic understanding of the major scale and its relationship to all of the diatonic music.

-intermediate students should have an elevated understanding of scale and chord patters along with the theory that explains modal relationships and use of these concepts.

-Advanced students should learn all of diatonic scale shapes and modes assuming they don't already know them in which case their specifically situation will be assessed

-Professional students I expect to have specific questions therefore where they grow should be largely subjective.

Overall, in a short amount of time on a scale of 1 - 10 I expect to in three months at-least elevate a students musical abilities one full point if not more.

I teach how to make recordings sound good!

About Mike
I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompany students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They should have their own instrument and a music stand.

*** Spec
ialties ***
I specialize in jazz improvisation on piano and guitar.
I also teach recreational guitar and piano for adults, including classical and blues styles.
I coach bass players and drummers in playing stylistically correct grooves for jazz, rock and latin music.

Emphasis of classes will be on mic technique, vocal texture, artistic liberties and interpretation, and defining signature sounds.

About Michelle
VOCAL COACH
Rehabilitating and strengthening voices are two of my top specialties, and each lesson will have specific exercises tailored to helping you transform your voice into the highest and best version of your instrument. I work with singers signed to labels as well as the indie artist just starting to find his/her voice, style, and signature sound. My coaching approach incorporates some of the newest technologies that have shown extraordinary results in breaking down the inner blocks of each artist. It is a tremendously joyful and fulfilling experience to watch as my students really let their instrument shine brightly, boldly, and with an aboslutely stunning groundedness as they discover how powerful they truly are.

MUSICIAN/SONGWRITER/PERFORMER

Poised, energized, and armed with unforgettable performance ability, Michelle G
. is a firework in the artistic arena. Her training began at the young age of 3 with the violin, and a few years later received classes for piano and voice. Excelling in all three, Michelle developed a very passionate and dramatic personality that eventually led her to more dramatic genres such as opera and stage acting. Her aptitude to understand human emotions and relationships gives her a wide spectrum to play in as an actress. There is an organic flow to her interpretations both as an actress and musician that leads the audience to feel her emotional current. Her honest characterizations introduce deeper perspectives on what seems like the ordinary roles and storylines. Amongst the many other leads that she has played, her participation in roles like “Susanna” in The Marriage of Figaro, or “Donna Elvira” in Don Giovanni embody much vibrancy and integrity.
Through the development of her voice as a singer and actress, she has crossed over into other media such as voice over commercial work and vocals for pop/main stream music productions. She has recently participated as a vocalist and violinist in the albums of artists such as international jazz pop artist David Longoria, Latin pop singer Erick Bolivar, Grammy-nominated percussionist Souhail Kaspar, and American Idol’s Seysha. Over the last few years she has unraveled her musical skills as a songwriter/composer/arranger and has even had some small victories acquiring music placements on TV shows (NCIS, short film “Sumtin’ Like Dat”, The Dictator) for herself and some of her colleagues. Her singing can also be heard on the hit tv show "Jane The Virgin", "Castle" and "Shameless" amongst others.

Education
Michelle completed her Associates of Arts for Music/Music Education at the age of 18, and got later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's of Arts for Musical Theater and Music Business, as well as from Florida International University with a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance.

I tailor my lessons to my student's needs, style, abilities, and goals. Learning is truly a fun and passionate adventure for me, and my enthusiasm has consistently been a contagious quality :) I love to challenge myself & my students to discover how immense their true potential is, and I create a safe and fun environment to explore such facets.

My curriculum is combination of solid tradition (Suzuki method for piano & violin, and Bel Canto technique for singing) interwoven with pop-culture, and modern influences. Within the first 3-6 months, my students will know the basic building blocks of music - which includes scales, arpeggios, triads, intervals, technique, and performance repertoire; and for my singers this will include proper breath technique, tone placement, support, very often increased vocal range (both high and low), and will feel significantly stronger vocally and more confident getting up to sing.

*** Studio Equipment ***

About Andrew
If you want to learn what they teach in the guitar program (GIT) at Musicians Institute here in Hollywood, but don't want to spend $30k on tuition and living expenses to do it... Or, if you are planning to attend GIT yourself and want to get way ahead of the curve early, so you too can graduate with top honors... Schedule some lessons with me, at a fraction of the GIT price-tag!

Beginning, intermediate and advanced guitar players will all benefit greatly from the vast wealth of guitar- and music-related information and experience that I have to offer (no brag, just fact).

My influences include, but are by no means limited to: Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Sting, The Cure, Duran Duran, Prince, Lady Gaga, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Miles Davis, Christina Aguilera, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, Béla Bartók, Igor Stravinsky...and nearly
everyone else making interesting music in the world.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a GIT graduate and will teach you everything they teach at Musicians Institute, one-on-one. Whether you want to learn scales, arpeggios, chords, music theory, harmony, arranging, reading music, writing music, ear training, rhythm guitar styles (rock, pop, jazz, funk), soloing techniques (rock, metal, pop, fusion), songwriting (on acoustic and electric), live performance (pre-show preparedness, eliminating stage fright, developing a professional stage presence), using fx pedals, ideal amplifier settings, finding your signature guitar tone, music production (recording, mixing and mastering), music business (creating your press kit, marketing your music, negotiating payments and contracts)...you name it, I've studied it and will teach it to you!

*** Studio Equipment ***
When I'm not touring and doing sessions, I spend the majority of my time in Hollywood, where I keep a small but full-featured music studio on a nice, quiet little street just off Hollywood Blvd. It's great because it contains all of the necessary items I need to maintain my skills, improve my abilities, and expand my knowledge (sofa, chair, office desk/chair, several amplifiers, guitars, fx pedals, metronome, etc). And in terms of the lessons I teach, while there isn't an on-site waiting area, there are several shops, restaurants and a small Fresh & Easy grocer with a nice, quiet alfresco seating area just a block or so away. What's more, the Hollywood & Highland mall is only a few blocks away. Parking is very convenient in the LA Fitness subterranean garage, the entrance to which is located on North Sycamore Ave. The fee for parking is free for one hour, with easy, no-hassle validation from Fresh & Easy. Note: street parking is permit-only and you will be ticketed...so DO NOT park on the street!

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please bring your instrument, a notebook, pencil, and, if you would like to record your lessons to have and review afterward, a pocket-size recording device. I will typically record moments when a student performs an example of something s/he has been working on, or an improvisation regarding the same. I do this strictly for the purpose of (a) having an example to which to compare and measure the student's progress and improvement over time, and/or (b) to capture a 'magical moment' of musical inspiration that might prove useful to the student's artistic/musical development, etc. At the student's request, I will provide a copy of said recordings (if any) on a CD. All such recordings are kept 100% confidential, are not distributed nor disseminated for any reason whatsoever, and are deleted at such time that the student discontinues his/her lessons with me.

*** Specialties ***
I am a very style-flexible musician and guitarist. Some really great books I've used in my own studies and lessons include: Pepe Romero's 'Guitar Style and Technique,' Ted Greene's 'Chord Chemistry,' George Russell's 'The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization for Improvisation,' Peter Magadini's 'Polyrhythms,' et al.

About Alex
I have been playing music since I was 7, and now play the guitar, bass, violin, piano, and I also sing. By the time I entered the University of Southern California, I had released my first album of original music, toured the west coast with my own band, toured internationally to China, Canada, France, England, Hungary, Ukraine, and Austria, and performed with The Vienna Boys Choir among other notable musical ensembles.

Since receiving my Bachelor's degree in Guitar Performance (with a minor in Music Recording) from USC, I have released three more albums of original music, produced four albums for other artists, and have toured nationally with my own band. I currently play in three Los Angeles area bands and am the live sound engineer for another. I have taught guitar at West Coast Music Academy 18 months, and have taught private lesso
ns for the last 6 years.

With all of this experience and knowledge, I offer a student a very rich understanding of many styles of music. I can ensure that a student gets on the right track towards a bright musical future, whether they want to become a professional musician or whether they want guitar as a lifelong hobby.

*** Lesson Details ***
When you take lessons from me, you will be taking the fastest route to success: playing a lot of guitar! We will cover everything from music theory to technique to soloing to playing your favorite songs, but we won't be spending the lesson time talking. Everything you learn will be quickly put into a playable, practical context, so that you learn the most, and have the most fun!

I have high expectations for my students, and practicing every day is a requirement. But because my curriculum is personally tailored to each individual student, and involves a lot of the music that the student is most passionate about, I find my students often love to practice! I also use a variety of musical texts to enrich the students learning (including, but not limited to, Practical Theory for Guitar by Don Latarski, Effortless Mastery by Kenny Werner, the Real Book series, and various Mel Bay books).

After about 6 months, a new student will have learned most basic chords and scales, the building blocks of playing solos, and a good handful of their favorite songs! More experienced students will have enriched their understanding of guitar and how it relates to the music they love, and music that is new to them!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons will happen in a studio room at the guest house, electric/acoustic guitars, bass and amps are available, it has instruments on the wall, computer with recording equipment, free street parking. In the event that a student in allergic to cats/dogs, the lessons can occur on the backyard at a roofed area.

*** Travel Equipment ***
guitar, amp, any effects if necessary. student must provide guitar (any kind)

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in rock, pop, folk, and jazz guitar styles. I focus on material that the individual student is excited about and wants to learn, and incorporate fundamentals and other pertinent skills necessary to maximize the students ability.

For bass guitar I specialize in rock and pop.

Contemporary songwriting technique is not genre-specific and I can teach any type of songwriting, from hip hop to country to rock. I have been a songwriter for 7 years, and have released 3 full length albums and one EP of my original material. I was also a student in the pilot classes which later became USC's Popular Music degree program. These classes focused on songwriting and were taught by industry veterans Chris Sampson and Richard Smith.

I was trained in advanced music theory as part of my degree from USC. I integrate theory into my other lessons but I can also teach theory alone.

I have advanced skills with ProTools and have extensive experience (5 years) in recording, from professional studios to personal home setups.

General recording / mixing techniques, specialized in Logic Pro.

About Ray
Hello!

My name is Ray, I'm 31 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.

I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for approximately 16 years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it remaining a very important part of my life.

I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy.

*** Lesson Details ***
My music lessons are unique for three main reasons:

1. I h
ave a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.

2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.

3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.

*** Equipment ***
Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.

*** Specialties ***
Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to listen to, study, and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy, for example, learning their favorite songs from the radio.

My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.

Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).

Since the 1990's I am recording music at my home studio. I do teach both industries leading recording DAW: Pro Tools and Logic Pro X for a long time. I studied Film Scoring and got opportunities to collaborate with amazing, and award winning musicians, and composers in Los Angeles. I teach these software for songwriters, editors, fellow composers, comedians, podcast artists, musicians, and even sound designers. I can also help with Garage Band. Let's learn how to record and produce great recordings at our home studios.

About Evren
I am a professional guitarist, composer and songwriter. I completed my education at Los Angeles Music College, and UCLA Film Scoring. I extended my studies with a 6 times Emmy award winner composer, and conductor for over 3 years privately in Hollywood, which provided me work for television, and independent films as a musician and a composer.

Music is my passion. I teach guitar students all different ages and levels. I worked professionally as a guitar and bass player for 2 decades, touring, and recording with artists all over the world. I have great and fun material for both guitar and bass guitar students which fits their levels perfectly. I also teach the Ukulele, and it has been one of the most fun experiences for me to connect with students working on Ukulele. I believe anyone can play the Uke.

Studying orchestration require me to
learn and improve my Piano skills whole a lot. I teach Piano now almost 10 years and have excellent books, and other material to learn the Piano in a fun way. I teach all ages, and specifically focus on beginner and intermediate levels since I also have taught Piano group classes last 5 years to same level students that are children and teenagers.

Since I have amazing opportunities to compose music for film and network TV shows, I got requests from students to teach them recording software, such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, and Garage Band as well as sample libraries. I can help you get better and faster on recording DAW.

I am open to work with anyone on any styles. Some of my favorites genres are: Classical, Jazz, Funk, Bossa Nova, Latin Jazz, Rock, Blues, Film Music and World Music. I look forward to meeting you, and be a part of your musical journey.

Mr. Evern is an excellent teacher: thoughtful and accommodating (to each child's temperament, abilities, interest and goals) which is most important to me as a parent. My kids are not "naturally" inclined to music and did not exhibit any "natural" talent, and they were skeptical about their ability to learn. But Mr. Evern was encouraging, funny, and fun - and this made all the difference. My children (each with his own very different traits) have taken acoustic guitar, uekelele, and piano with Mr. Evern, and they both love him. As a (non-music) teacher myself, I appreciate his pedagogical methods which take into account the context of each situation. As a parent, I appreciate his encouraging nature.

Evren is the best teacher ever. He taught me a lot on bass and he produced songs I wrote. He worked on these songs in ProTools and Logic and had a very strong command of these software platforms.

I learned a lot about bass from Evren, from jazz to funk and rock. He helped me improve my playing tremendously. I recommend him to everyone!
