Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, how the blues may be played in a jazz context and in different modes (dominant vs. minor). 12-, 16-, 8-, and 10-bar forms will be covered.

About Lars
I began to teach guitar at 16 years of age. I have taught students from 7 to 60 years old in a wide variety of styles. From age 12 to 21 I took private guitar lessons regularly. Now I have a lesson every once in a while. I studied jazz guitar primarily with Randy Vincent, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's greatest guitar players. Aside from teaching lessons as a job, I have played guitar in many concerts and continue to do so. Before moving to San Francisco, I gained a lot of experience and valuable education with guitar. I played in the jazz bands in Junior High and High School. I went to four years of a week long summer jazz camp called jazz camp west where I took classes, played open mics and had fun with many musicians, making some good friends. I hold BA degrees in Music (Jazz Guitar) and Spanish, as well as an MA in Musi
c, from San Francisco State University. By now, I am confident in working with whatever musical material students offer! Thank you.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher, but I definitely expect students to practice what I suggest they practice. I advise that students use method books or sheet music of some sort, and I will certainly make notes for them and create materials they can learn from. I always teach based on the goals of the student and what type of music they enjoy, but I also like to guide the student in a direction I think would benefit them. I usually introduce music to play right away, conforming of course to the skill level and interest of the student. I now play seven-string guitar, which is just a six-string guitar (same tuning and technique) with an extra low string. It will be practical to aide students by accompanying with a bass range instrument.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar
I consider myself a Jazz musician, but I am happy to consider a very wide range of styles. I am focusing now on music of the Spanish Golden Age, 1500-1700.

Learn how to play various types of blues guitar.

About Trevor
Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.

On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
ly a few years of
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.

I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Music theory and composition, guitar, bass, lute, beginner to intermediate piano
Classical, shred, blues, and rock guitar; renaissance lute; blues, rock and slap bass; composition of many styles; world music.

It’s always a very special time a guitar student wants to learn about the blues. As an improviser, this is one of my favorite topics to teach.
We will listen to the great blues guitarists, discussing their individual sound and technique. Lots of time will be spent learning scales and basic harmonic principles. Most importantly though, we will jam! It’s not easy at first, but I promise to keep the vibe easy-going and positive.

About David
My name is David and I'm a professional musician who just moved to North Austin. I came from Cincinnati, where I went to the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, taught dozens of students at all levels and played regular gigs every weekend. I have been teaching for over fifteen years, and I'm looking to get a few new students.
I teach guitar, piano, bass guitar and even upright bass. If it's a tutor you are looking for I can also teach music theory and appreciation. I have a knack for teaching young people, probably because I was young when I started my musical journey. I've been very successful at inspiring a student's love of music and instilling the patience required to take on the challenge of playing an instrument.
The first thing I like to do is get to know you, the music you enjoy and your goals. In a way, I l
ike to begin by letting the student lead.
In addition to learning from you, I intend to present you with new information, to try and broaden your musical tastes and teach you how to be an active listener.

I've been teaching for 7 years, but I've been playing for 30+ years.
I typically use Hal Leonard's books as part of my teaching program.
I have the necessary instruments appropriate for teaching both acoustic and electric guitar, as well as mandolin.
Most students see a full letter grade improvement within the first two months.
Performed full-time, professionally, as a musician for 12 years.

About Frederick
Hi, my name is Frederick and I can't wait to meet you!
I've been teaching for about 7 years, however, the passion for music and stringed instruments, has been with me for over 30 years. I play Guitar (Acoustic and Electric), Mandolin, Ukulele, Electric Bass and Harmonica (no strings, go figure),
My goal as a teacher is to help you achieve your goals as an artist and musician.
I've taken guitar, voice and harmonica lessons myself and have also attended workshops in professional song-writing. Three of my songs are placed in a major motion picture.
Patience and listening are among my strengths and I understand that students learn at a different paces.
Let's get together and play some music!

I am a passionate lifelong musician and songwriter, having performed hundreds of shows over the past 15 years. Some of my experience includes working for original acts as well as cover bands, with a focus on guitars (rhythm and lead), vocals (rhythm and lead) and eb alto saxophone. My approach to teaching is simple: connect with the student, help find common ground in musical tastes and set up an engaging foundation with which the student can reach their goals while having fun in the process. I also provide a comprehensive music theory program to help students familiarize themselves with things such as: reading sheet music/sight reading, transposition, metronome training, ear training and more. I primarily focus on rock, blues, metal and jazz styles on both the electric and acoustic guitar.

I specialize in rock, blues, metal and jazz styles.

About Levon
Hey Everyone!

My name is Levon Syers and I have been a lifelong guitar player. I'm very passionate about music, and have performed hundreds of shows over the past 15 years. This included working with original bands and cover acts up and down the East Coast of the United States. Apart from the guitar, I also play the alto saxophone and clarinet as well! I typically play in community bands on these instruments, which will play at schools, charities and community homes in New Jersey where I'm from.

Regarding my education, I have a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Rowan University. I'm also 30 credits into earning my MA in English from Montclair State University. Apart from taking theory courses in high school and some during my undergraduate degree, most of my studying has come from my personal passion and desire to perform. A
fter getting into to teaching a while back, I realized that I really enjoy it! It is highly rewarding, and a great chance to share the joy of music with others. I currently teach at three different locations for two different businesses in NJ, and I've set up my profile on Take Lessons so that I can continue expanding my student base, which consists of students ranging from 8-70 years of age.

I am always studying music, even to this day, and constantly trying to understand new styles that are outside of my wheelhouse. My approach to teaching is simple: connect with the student, help find common ground in musical tastes and set up an engaging foundation with which the student can reach their goals while having fun in the process!

Born and raised in Chicago, I have been around great Blues men since I could walk. My grandfather was a harmonica player on the South Shore, and every weekend I would listen to him play with the other musicians in the area, and I developed a natural love for rhythm and the culture that came with the Blues. When I was about 13 I was able to get into bars (I was tall, and if you behaved yourself and bought a few drinks, the doormen looked the other way), but Buddy Guy's "LEGENDS" club, The Wild Hare, The Checkerboard Lounge (where Muddy Waters last played with the Rolling Stones), and many others soon became my weekend hangouts. I was playing piano, drums, and guitar from an early age, and later left for Los Angeles where I got a contract with Virgin records. It was electronic music, but I still played a lot of guitar on it and have been featured in Guitar Magazine, Keyboard, Rolling Stone, Spin, NME, and many others. I won the California Music Awards, was nominated for a Los Angeles ...

About Brian
Biography- Growing up in Chicago, I was immersed in and entranced by the Blues from the day I was born. We had family from Louisiana (as did half of Chicago, there's a train that has run from Louisiana to Chicago for one hundred and thirty five years), and so I spent summers taking canoes out on the Bayou and eating alligator on a stick at the local fairs, and listening to Zydeco and no lie, I had to square dance. Back home I was an honors student and athlete, but my first love was guitar and drums, and having a brother who played both allowed us to develop our abilities quickly. I was teaching drums at The Village School of Folk Music in Libertyville, Illinois by the time I was thirteen years old.
The guy who owned the store also owned a modern music equipment store, and after attending Eastern Illinois University , I was one of the
first on the scene when MIDI and digital recording systems for home computers became available, selling and installing early systems while managing the guitar department. I soon had produced enough original material that led to moving to Los Angeles, where I started Orange County's first electronic label, and was soon signed to Astralwerks/Virgin as a solo artist. This is where I learned about publishing, licensing, and the way the business works. I was soon licensing and producing soundtrack music, as well as touring and playing on records with Sugar Blue (the harmonica player for the Stones) Carl Zephyr (Rick James' bass player) H.R. from Bad Brains, Al Jourgenson from Ministry, Jello from the Dead Kennedys, and sold music to major companies like Microsoft ( millions of kids got that first X-box console with 'Gotham Racing', featuring one of my songs!) and New Line Cinema, Sony, Warner, etc. When internet piracy came around, the entire music business took a dive. I returned to another love of mine, computers, and finished my degree last July. I think it's time to share what I have learned with some very special people who want to know not only how Blues music is played, but also how those emotions are transmuted through your fingers, through the guitar and out to the crowd, where the slightest nuance can tell a story, or express a feeling that can't be said in words. This is how I approach the guitar. If you are interested in learning the music of John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Lightnin' Hopkins, Robert Johnson, and other great Blues artists, then I'd be honored. Thanks for your time.
