I started teaching oboe while finishing my bachelor's degree, and have found it to be incredibly rewarding. I love sharing my knowledge, helping my students advance and find even greater enjoyment playing. I feel very fortunate because as a regularly performing musician, I have had the opportunity to immerse myself in many styles of music. Though it is incredibly important to learn the basics of oboe, and to become educated in the classics, expanding one's pallet with pop, jazz and world-music, for example, should also come into play.

During lessons we'll focus on technique building exercises, pieces from the standard oboe repertoire, and will often play duets together. If you are in school and would like to bring your band/orchestra music to lessons, feel free!

Since reeds are such an important part of being an oboe player, I teach reed adjustments for students playing at an intermediate level, and for advanced students, reed making from scratch.

My philosophy is that ...

About Alison
Thank you for visiting my profile!

As a professional musician, I have played in various ensembles including orchestras, opera companies, wind ensembles, chamber groups, musicals and more. The Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra (BCCO), presenting 3-5 concerts a year, has been my orchestral home since 2013 and I have had the privilege of playing principal oboe with them all throughout.

As a music educator I have years of experience teaching privately and in classrooms, for individuals and groups. I craft lessons to the needs and interests of each student, to ensure they are getting the most of our time together. Many of my students enjoy, for example, video game and TV show music - so, these pieces are some of the repertoire we'll work on together. My goals as a teacher are to instill proper playing technique, guide how to sha
pe the music, establish good practice habits, and above all find ways to connect students with the music they're studying. At the end of the day, we play music because it's fun!

Degrees:
Master's in Music Performance, NYU
Bachelor's in Music Education, The College of New Jersey

*** Equipment ***
Students should own/rent their instrument, assigned methods book(s)/sheet music, reeds, reed soaking container (for oboe), a music stand, neck strap (saxes)

Locally, Grace has performed with the Dana Point Symphony, Symphony Irvine, as well as other groups around Southern California. Previously, she was a long time member of the Cheshire Symphony.

Whether you choose to take lessons online, in my home studio, or in your home, I strive to make each lesson engaging, informative, and fun! Students are expected to practice in-between lessons and come to lessons prepared with their instrument and music. I also encourage students to bring any music that they're interested in learni
ng to their lessons.

**In-home Lessons**
Currently, I'm traveling to the Southbay area on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. If you reside within that area and the time you'd like isn't in my availability, please let me know, as I may be able to make it work (depending on location). If you have any scheduling questions, please contact me before booking lessons.

**Group Lessons**
I don't offer traditional group lessons, as I've found they slow down the progress of both students and therefore aren't cost effective. Arrangements can be made for back to back lessons instead. Please contact me before booking lessons.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have, and I can't wait to meet you!

I began taking oboe lessons at the age of 8 and have continued with the instrument through a Music Performance degree at Chapman University and am currently completing my Masters degree in Oboe Performance and the University of Southern California. As an oboe teacher, I find it equally important for my students to strengthen their technique and their musicality. To become a strong oboist, it is important to not only play the music properly, but to put a little bit of yourself into every piece you play. I also specialize in reed-making, and love helping students with their reeds, as well as sell reeds to young oboists.

About Emilia
I have been teaching private voice and oboe lessons since 2012. My approach to teaching is expressing yourself naturally. From pop to classical, I believe that as long as you maintain a healthy foundation, you can sing and play any style of music you want! Throughout my career, I have been featured as a vocalist and oboist on Billboard-charting and award-winning albums that vary in genre and style, and have learned that you can conquer any style you wish with the right foundation. I have been playing and singing since I was 8 years old, and recently graduated from the University of Southern California with my Masters in Oboe Performance, having graduated from Chapman University with my Bachelors in Music Performance with a double emphasis in Vocal and Oboe Performance in 2016.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, electric keyboard, acoust
ic guitar, oboe, english horn, video camera with professional-level sound, iMAC, speakers.

*** Travel Equipment ***

*** Specialties ***
I trained classically but personally enjoy singing Pop and Musical Theatre. Because of my background, I like to make sure that my students have good technique that carries through to singing any style they like so that they can accomplish all of their goals without damaging their voices and affecting their health. I have extensive experience with singing in languages including Spanish, French, German, and Italian and like my students to experience different languages as well.

Hello!

I have my Bachelor's degree in Music from Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon. I can make and adjust reeds, to best help my students produce a sound that they are happy with. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree at Longy School of Music, in Boston.

Lessons can be as relaxed or fast-paced as they need to be, I take a very individualized approach to meet the needs of each student's abilities. I love to give my students choices in their musical path- making music should be fun and enjoyable! Despite that, we still get to business when we have to.

Let's make some music together!

About Alyssa
Hi there!

I am a supportive and encouraging teacher willing to teach all ages and abilities. It is my firm belief that music is for everyone.

I am currently pursuing my M.M. from Longy School of Music. I completed my undergraduate work at Rhode Island College, where I studied oboe and bassoon privately. I am currently on the private lesson roster for two public schools in the area, and teach both double-reeded instruments. I have successfully helped young students prepare for and audition into district level ensembles.

I have reed-making experience and can assist students with finicky reeds, to help ease the most frustrating part about playing oboe & bassoon.

I'm looking forward to working with you!

I will make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals. I have a warm personality, am extremely friendly, and will strive to get to know you.

I will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory and can also incorporate your favourite songs into your lessons (if there's any in particular that you would like to learn).

About Osvaldo
I've been playing clarinet for 16 years and have not stopped ever since. Music lessons was first introduced to me at the age of 8 by my godfather. He taught me basic music theory with the piano and trumpet. I gave up the trumpet at age 12 and moved on to the clarinet and played it in a community band named "Banda Juvenil Solaga, USA, Oaxaca."

By the time I made it to the university (CSULA), I began getting lessons from Helen G. Castro (She has and still is one of the best mentors I've ever gotten). I've performed 5 years with the Cal State LA Wind Ensemble under the conducting of Dr. Emily Moss (Another great mentor. She's one of the reasons why I decided to pursue a career in music education).

I've graduated in 2015, BM in the field of Music Education. Am still planning to pursue a Masters in Music Performance. But first, I still
have to save up.

I'm currently teaching in the Saturday Conservatory of Music and the New Life Vision Church. I'm private teaching as well; giving clarinet, saxophone, and oboe lessons.
