I have been teaching piano for over twenty years, with many of my students participating in international competitions and regularly receiving state honors from the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC). Teaching is truly more than a career for me - it is a passion that guides my interaction with all of my students, no matter their age and skillset.

If in addition to pursuing piano as a hobby, you would like to participate in the MTAC Certificate of Merit examinations and earn credit for your studies, you are more than welcome to do so. As a member of the MTAC, my students boast a 100% pass rate (with the vast majority receiving perfect scores on both the performance and music theory sections).

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. Can't wait to meet you! :-)

Piano Lessons in unique because I have the discipline of a highly educated musician, but the critical thinking skills of a modern day entrepreneur.

I am a regularly performing musician who has memorized hundreds of songs and pieces, making it easy to train any student on the fly. Teaching lessons is NOT just learning notes on the page, it is playing music by ear, understating how music works, and understanding how the student learns.

Very passionate about piano and able to convey ideas.. also very good at feeling out what student is seeking to achieve. Definitely recommend Paul if you are wanting to take playing piano as a serious endeavor
Arthur
My experience with this teacher was horrible. Paul has no patience for a child that might not pay attention as much as necessary. He has forgotten what it is to be a child or how to win over a child and make a lesson fun.
My child had one previous lesson with Paul. It is true that she was not following his directions and his frustration was quite obvious.
On my second visit I was appalled by Paul’s behavior. Again my child wouldn’t sit down on the bench correctly. Verbatim this what occurred next, I quote: “This is not going to work out. Get out of my house NOW, NOW!(Screaming, like I was going to prolong this). I have better things to do than waste my time with your daughter. I don’t want to take your money.

It is true that my daughter can be difficult when approached in an authoritarian manner. However, my daughter is not yet six and Paul brought my daughter to tears. Surely this behavior was at best inappropriate and says more about the person Paul is than about my daughter. A simple “ May I have word with you in private” would be a mature way to part company. Not throwing a 6 year out of your house because you are frustrated. I was horribly offended by his manner and attitude. No way to treat a 6 year old.

This man has no patience with young kids. I would stay away from this teacher unless your child has some experience with piano. Definitely not child friendly.
Normally I do not post reviews unless something extraordinary happens This is one of those: extraordinarily bad.
An apology is in order if this poor excuse for a “teacher” has any understanding of the unnecessary hurt he has caused.

"My 6 years old daughter naturally loves to play the piano. She had two other teachers before we met Niki and they were not able to help my daughter to keep her focused and have fun /enjoy the piano lesson. With Niki , my daughter became excited every week to go to piano class and practices at home on her own. Niki has a way of inspiring my daughter to love playing the piano even more. My daughter is always excited for the recitals ,( Which she performed in one yesterday) Recitals are very helpful to promote self confidence at young age.
Niki is an excellent teacher and highly recommended !"

"Sandra H. is a teacher you can rely on to encourage you to perform not only for yourself, but for an audience. I can't remember a lesson day when Ms. Sandra wouldn't tell me, once I had mastered a piece, to play for the church congregation, or to one of her colleagues' open recitals. One specific time, I was asked to play 3 songs for the congregation by someone who heard Ms. Sandra specifically praising my skill. I was told to form a group of 3 total, so I invited a friend and my brother to play the trumpet and the violin, respectively. Ms. Sandra was very encouraging and determined to assist in perfecting the pieces I would do within the week I had to prepare, and I'm certain that without the help, the performance would have been a complete, total disaster. She not only provided a teacher's support - helping me practice the correct rhythm and speed, to name the parts I had trouble with - she also gave me a friend's support, telling me not to allow stage-fright to consume my confidence before I even had a chance to start.

What can I say? She's a great teacher, and cares for her students beyond the borders of the musical world."

"GREAT TEACHER!!!!

I am currently taking online Piano lessons from Josh.
(With the emphasis being on Christian music)

So far it has been a great experience. Josh is a super cool guy and has very calm, easy-going, and joyful personality. All these things combined make for a pleasant environment.

I have not taken any piano lessons before Josh (I was very much at the beginner level when I started my lesson). Josh did a great job of easing me into the piano without overwhelming me with information and/or techniques.

With his background, I feel like Josh is over-qualified to teach the piano - especially to beginners like myself, but he did a great job of teaching the basics and moving to more advanced techniques based on my skill level and the way I was progressing.

He also did a great job of challenging me to take my piano lessons to the next level without overwhelming me. He has definitely helped out tremendously in helping me learn the piano thus far and highly recommend him as a teacher.

He has a great structure to the course but also leaves room for the student to give input on things that they may want to learn, such as: songs, techniques, etc.

Additionally, he has done a great job of making the piano make sense. For example, sometimes I can get lost with all the different ways to play a chord, but he helped explain it in simple terms that makes sense.

I have learned so much from Josh in such a short amount of time and like I said, I highly recommend you take him as your teacher.. Great Teacher!"

How to Play From a Lead Sheet: Basics for Piano Players

A lead sheet is a simple song arrangement that usually contains the melody line, lyrics and chord symbols. Either type is used for bands, worship teams, and other group playing that includes guitars. There are many advantages for a piano player to learn to play from a le …
