About Jordan
I am a professional singer and actor with over 10 years of performance experience and private vocal/acting coaching. I studied acting at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and have performed nationally in regional theater, for cruise lines, and several theaters in my current residence of San Diego such as the Lyric Opera San Diego, Old Globe, Lamb's Players Theater and Cygnet Theater. I have taught students from ages 7-adults, and my focus is always the dramatic and emotional aspects of the piece and how to use technique to release that emotion in a healthy and exciting way.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is passionate and encouraging. I have taken lessons from many teachers and have found what is useful and what only confuses a student. As such, my approach to singing is very simplistic, and often wh
at I will talk about in the first lesson will be discussed during every lesson. Lessons will usually be divided into 1/2 vocal mechanics and 1/2 dramatic interpretation.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Music and acting texts, portable keyboard. Student need not provide anything.

*** Specialties ***
Broadway, voice/speech, classical theater, acting, stage combat

About Francisco
I was born in Argentina. I began playing bass when I was ten years old, while my younger brother began playing drums. I started taking bass classes, and also formed several bands as a bass player, although the drums had always been sounding in the back of my head. After listening to Tool’s Danny Carey and Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, at the age of 17, I realized the drums were my true love, and began studying the instrument. I continued playing bass in several bands, until I joined the band The Evenfall as a drummer, in 2009. At this time, my family was considering moving to the U.S, and that's when I got the chance to apply to the Berklee College of Music. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012 with a degree in Drumset Performance. There I studied with the most respected drummers and teachers in the world, and learned not only from their
way of playing, but also from their style of teaching. I have a curriculum which includes material learned from all my years as Berklee, as well as material I acquired in my own experience performing and recording with many acts and in many different genres, ranging from Rock and Metal, to Latin and Jazz, and even Musical Theater.

*** Lesson Details ***
I custom make my lessons to fit each of my student's needs and goals. If you want to study Metal drumming, I won't aim my lessons to teach the same material I teach to a student who wants to learn Latin music, or Jazz. Music is never ending, and different music affects each person differently. Also, every person has a different voice in their instrument. That's why what works for what some people doesn't do it for others. I focus on what is important to YOU, and what better suits your interests.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I could provide the students with sticks and the materials to work on. I would expect the students to provide the necessary books when needed. A drumset is not required for beginners, although it will be for more advanced students.

*** Specialties ***
My teaching method focuses on the interest of the student. I try to have my classes follow each student's own interest and goals, and guide them on the best possible ways to help them achieve those. I try to present short term goals for my students, to ensure that they can experience a feeling on success that will keep them motivated. I specialize in Rock and Pop music, as well as Latin music (Brazilian and Afro-Caribbean in particular).

Francisco is such a great teacher. He tailors his lessons to your needs and challenges you just enough. I took lessons with him for about 8 months, which ended when he moved to the west coast. Otherwise I would still be with him. But he taught me so much and still checks in to make sure I'm sticking with it months after our sessions have ended. He genuinely cares about his students and their love of music and he enjoys teaching and motivating others to play. I highly recommend Francisco as a teacher as he will get you where you want to be.

I took up drums 2 years ago in my early 40's. Francisco was my first drum teacher, and he patiently introduced me to the instrument, exposed me to many different musical concepts and traditions, and really increased my interest in music and drumming. He is an amazing player, and I learned much from watching him play in lessons and also live. Unfortunately he moved from Boston to CA, which was my loss.I reccommend him without reservation.

I took many lessons with Francisco after a period of relative inactivity from playing drums on a consistent basis. I had been playing for years, but had unfortunately become rusty and out of practice at the time. Francisco helped me build my chops back up, and introduced me to new unique concepts in phrasing, approaching grooves, technique, and much more. Francisco's down-to-earth and very friendly personality, combined with his obvious passion for drums and percussion, made every lesson an event I looked forward to. He gave me a lot to think about each lesson, providing me with great musical concepts that can be studied for life. Francisco isn't a teacher who only thrives teaching beginners. As a drummer for several years with lots of performing experience, he still managed to significantly help improve my playing and reignite my spark in drumming. Thanks, dude

Carolyn is an experienced and very dedicated teacher. She is kind and patient and definitely has a gift for teaching, my 12 year old daughter has learned so much in so little time. We definitely plan to continue with Carolyn, our goal was to have my daughter read music by the end of the summer and she was already playing after the first session. Carolyn is also easy to work with, very accommodating and responsive. We are very grateful we found her.

About Corby
I grew up in Southern CA and played piano all my life beginning with classical studies at age 6. I moved to the east coast and obtained my music degree from NYU in 1995 and began teaching in Greenwich Village NYC in 1999. All the while I taught I continued to take lessons from some of the world's greatest musicians living in NYC.

I was classically trained, but ventured into jazz and pop studies after college. I played many jazz solo gigs in New York City as well as accompanied singers, performed and sang my own material at songwriter venues, accompanied rock bands on keyboards and performed classical music in the recital galas I hosted for my students.

I've played and taught all styles and have a passion for teaching and learning! I encourage students to play what they love, whether that be Boogie, Classical, Jazz, their own compo
sition, or the latest Adele song.

I returned to Southern California at the end of 2011 and am currently building my student clientele in San Diego.

To get an idea of what I do please click on the VIDEO tab above to see my students and me performing in NYC!

I HAVE 2 PRIMARY GOALS FOR BEGINNER LESSONS:
#1. Provide a strong musical foundation
#2. Keep students interested in playing

I use specific techniques to achieve these goals. I structure a plan that outlines the fundamentals of music theory while teaching pieces that the student loves. I have an ENORMOUS supply of music books (which cost a fortune to ship to San Diego!) and let the student choose from a wide variety of music pieces to supplement their method book studies (I use Bastien.)
For children, parents are encouraged to stay for lessons, but if they can't I write down the "practice prescription" for the week so both student and parent know what should be worked on!

FOR INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED PLAYERS:
There are SO MANY THINGS you might be interested in working on such as ….

1. Learning pieces as quickly/efficiently as possible
2. Creating proper practice habits so you’re not spending wasteful time at the piano.
3. Learning effective techniques for memorization.
4. Improving your “Feel”
5. Improving your technique so you can play effortlessly fast!!
6. Interpretation of pieces from the different classical periods
7. Improving understanding of Music Theory
8. Song writing!! Yes, you can do it yourself!!
9. Performance (Yes, this is a skill, separate from learning the song is learning to perform it!)

I’ve got specific techniques for all of the above, and more. I don’t say “Just do it this way.” I have bona fide tried and true techniques you can use. They even have names such as “Pulse Play,” “Shadow Play” “Visualization” “Mental Play” “Spot Work” “Wrist Rotate” etc.

I shouldn’t give away all my goodies here! Come take a lesson to see what I’m talking about!

And as much as I know, I am very easy to get along with and have a great sense of humor. I will keep you on your toes, inspire you, and probably make you laugh while I’m at it

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons are taught in my living room with a 5' Yamaha grand piano. The atmosphere is clean, comfortable and professional, and I have no pets. Parents are encouraged to stay for lessons!

*** Specialties ***
My number one goal is to keep students interested in piano, and I have an enormous repertory of music for them to choose from which helps succeed in that goal. I would prefer they all at least begin playing classically, but it just sometimes doesn't turn out that way. If they start lessons very young I use the Bastien Books but almost immediately I am supplementing their repertory with auxiliary pieces. No matter what age, I start them in an appropriate method book (love Bastien) but pull from a large surplus of auxiliary books and sheet music to supplement the method book. I play songs at their level and let them choose which ones they like best as we go along. I NEVER force a student to play a certain piece. NEVER. They can build a rock solid music foundation choosing pieces they love. Ideally they are playing some classical standards accompanied by some popular pieces. I incorporate theory, from a key based perspective. Songs, scales, primary chords, ear training all in the same key. Then we move to a new key. I have charts that I have created to accompany their repertory.

s and princes, Francesca has high expectations and is skilled in helping her students reach their goals.

A Note From Francesca:

My official bio is listed below, but perhaps more important than the things I have done are the things that I am doing. I am now approaching my 15th year of teaching. I love to teach! I carry a minimum of 30 students, but have carried more then 80 at one time, and have never once complained. My waiting list cycles based on my performance schedule and recording schedule. If you don't see a time that works for you, feel free to reach out and see if we can find something that works, as an artist, my schedule can be quite full but also quite flexible. I love my students, I get to do what I love all day and I am sure it shows. I have a blast discovering new ways to experience music with "my kids." I call all of my students kids even though most of my studio consists of young adults. I try to have a young air in my classes at all times as it just makes the process so much more fun for everyone.

I've seen it all in through years: kids, adults, beginners and advanced students. I am personally very interested in being the most versatile musician possible and I love being able to share my knowledge with my students. We can study anything and everything from Classical Guitar to Electric Guitar Shredding; from Opera to Kelly Clarkson; from Tchaikovsky to Little Richard! I love getting students to dabble in little bits of all genres, often getting even the most skeptical student singing and playing comfortably in a matter of just a few weeks. My students will be able to read music for their favorite tunes and understand how to improvise from the start. Once you come in, you'll be hooked. You will have fun because I am having fun!

I encourage all of my students to share their favorite music with me. It affords me the opportunity to learn more about what they desire to learn and what types of music they enjoy. We will learn with your music often. After all, isn't that why you are coming to see me? I will introduce you to new sounds and styles, but will foster your love for music, and do my best to never force my music on students. I feel I learn as much from my students when I truly listen to them and their music as they do from me.

On site lessons are available for artists recording demos, rehearsing bands and setting up their own studios.

On a side note, I love seeing students at my shows! I am a full time musician and can be seen playing with my band, in my own solo project and in various choral settings. Check out my website and see what I do outside of the classroom. My students get a kick out of the idea that they can buy a CD with their teachers face on it, and to be honest, so do I. Many of my students have their own music out on iTunes and YouTube. Many more can be seen performing around town in solo projects and professional ensembles.

Francesca on Artist Development:

I feel obligated to share my joys and experiences-

Not many people have been blessed to sing alongside as many renowned musicians as I have - I've been lucky to be welcomed in both the commercial and classical worlds and they have both afforded me venues to use my voice and express the most vital corners of my soul. To find your purpose through art is one of the greatest gifts you can receive. And to be able to do that in front of thousands of music lovers live or over the airwaves is a surreal experience.

It'€™s funny, my classical cronies are impressed to hear my stories of packed rock gigs at the House Blues and national touring festivals like Warped Tour and my rock buddies ask to hear my stories of Disney Hall performances with the LA Phil. To be honest, Iâ'm impressed to be there too. Sometimes, I look around and think, how did I get here? How did I get lucky enough to live the dream, to find a home in music?

I've been luckier than most. I've had GREAT mentors who have always pushed me forward and shared their wisdom freely with me. Part of the classical musician's central goal is to educate. That'€™s a value I carry into my rock projects and production studio. Work smarter, not harder. Take the needed skills, create art, teach others how to do the same thing, move forward together to live happier, more productive lives filled with purpose.

I have come to be known as one of the top Musical Mentors & Artist Development Experts on the west coast. A behind the scenes- diva of dream building with the skills to push artists to the next level- the ace up the sleeve of many of today working talents. In my award winning studio, I spend time coaching the young voices and faces of today hottest TV shows seen on ABC, Nickelodeon, and the Disney Channel, but I still have a soft spot for up and comers in the indie music world. Having written and performed my own music for decades, I not only lived the collegiate experience of the elite classical performer singing for presidents and world leaders, but also the dingy road of the rock musician who'€™s showed one night to a packed stadium full of fans and showed up another, thousands of miles from home to play to a coffee shop of 5 people. Music has brought me to nearly every continent and introduced me to some of the most talented and diverse people you can imagine. I feel compelled to share these experiences with those around me so that they my develop the vision, the salt and the skills to persevere.

I am, above all, an artist & creator- living the dream, helping people- like you find their voice and write their songs. Turning raw emotion into art.

Each one of us has a story, our truth. Being an artist is about finding ourselves, our song and expressing it publicly so that we may heal, so that we may grow.

It doesn't take a ton of experience to write a hit song. It doesn't take a fancy education or a family line of talent (though it can help). We can all find our voice, our place in the spotlight, what it takes is the courage to take the next step forward.

You've already had the genius to be in the right place at the right time. Here. If you've made it this far, chances are you are smart enough, hungry enough and ready to take the plunge.

Inside my studio you will find the help you seek. I can impart you with proven techniques to strengthen your sound, develop your tone through strong technique, develop strategies to share your art and develop a plan to turn pipe dreams into reality. Some desire to sing on the worlds brightest stages, others strive to lead others through teaching themselves, and some wish for nothing more than to experience music in a confident manner among friends. All can be lead on this personal journey of the artistic soul and all can make their offering to the musical gods. There is a place at the table for anyone seeking an answer.

I am a multi-instrumentalist and have been teaching piano since 1998. My students' ages range from 4 to 60+. I have been a musician for the majority of my lifetime, having started playing piano at age five. As a multi-instrumentalist I teach piano, clarinet, violin and guitar. I have also taught elementary school classroom music at a private school and directed musicals for them.

I have my BA in Music from San Diego State University and I am well prepared to teach music. One of the highlights of my music education at San Diego State was the privilege of playing violin for the SDSU Symphony Orchestra, performing master works such as Beethoven's Fifth Symphony as well John Williams' Suite from Star Wars.

I also received an Associate of Arts degree at Grossmont, College in El Cajon, California, with an emphasis on music education.

My lessons consist of exercises that emphasize proper techniques for each instrument.Lessons are tailored to the specific needs of each student. I would like my students to fully understand the entire musical process, including theory. I prepare lesson content to meet the individual needs of each student.

My students have expressed that they enjoy my music lessons. I am serious about lesson content and am always seeking new ways to make lessons more enjoyable. I include parents/guardians by informing them of lesson requirements and progress, and encourage all to ask questions or make suggestions.

It is my goal to share the joy that music brings to each life. I am looking forward to meeting you.

*** Lesson Details ***
These details change depending on, whether you would like musical training or academic tutoring.
Musical:

Music is fun and the lessons should be as well. When it comes to practice I recommend that students do spend time (1/2-1hour daily) outside of the lessons practicing to ensure that they see results. If you choose to practice only while in the lesson you will get better but it will be at a slower pace.

- Start with quick warm ups (these work to increase students fluidity with their instrument)
- Work technique
- Assign repertoire depending on skill level.
- Work on assigned repertoire
- Work on technical aspect of the pieces.
Your student will learn much more about their capabilities and their instrument as they will learn many aspects of Music Theory.

I teach beginning- advanced piano lessons touching on posture, hand position, rhythm training, sight-reading, expression, and pop/jazz chord charts. If you want to learn how to play songs by ear that you hear on the radio, I can train you how to do that too! Once I feel that you have surpassed my ability to help you grow, I will be happy to pass you on to a more experienced teacher and attend all of your future recitals.

I teach voice beginner-professional, which includes classical repertoire and technique as well as Musical Theatre, Pop, Rock, Standards, Country, RnB,...you name it. The best part is that you will learn to sing in a manner that will not damage your instrument and in fact will work to fortify your instrument.

Academic:
- Start with introduction to the standard.
- Work on problems with material.
- Present new methods to reach a solution.
- Work on all assigned work.
- Work on future work to give the student an academic advantage.

I am a hard working tutor that will bring the joy of the subject to our sessions of tutoring. I am strict at times, however, some of my students have referred to me as mellow. I will strive to bring your student up to speed and surpass even their own expectations. I love my students, and I want to see them succeed.

About Dave
I teach clarinet, flute, and saxophone lessons. I play tenor sax professionally with first-call bands in area clubs. I write about pop culture for the San Diego Reader, and I co-starred in FOX TV's "Three Minutes to Stardom."

I'm able to connect instantly across a wide spectrum of ages and personalities.

“My son enjoys the lessons and looks forward to seeing Dave. I highly recommend Dave as an instructor.” – Jim C.

All of my lessons are priced with respect to family budgets and are open to all ages and skill levels. From beginner to intermediate to advanced, I will give you or your child tools that anyone can use to improve faster and have fun playing music.

"The extra things Dave does, offering opportunities to perform, attending student performances at their school, show what a caring teacher he is." – Shannon V.

My in
-home music studio is centrally located in La Mesa between the 8 and 94 freeways. 10 minutes from SDSU, 12 minutes from Grossmont, 19 minutes from El Cajon. Plenty of free parking, a waiting area for parents and siblings, and shopping close by. Many of my parents drop their kids off and run errands during lessons.

“Dave provides a structured template for learning which is tempered by a lot of humor.” –Judith T.

What impresses me about Dave is that he adds humor to the lessons, yet is still firm about getting the point, or lesson across to my son. My son enjoys the lessons and looks forward to seeing Dave. I highly recommend Dave as an instructor.

About Sarabeth
Hello fellow singers! My goal is to help you refine your own unique instrument and help you to express a story and art through the voice!

I grew up taking piano lessons and singing in my church and school choir. I always had a love for all classical music and soon enough fell in love with opera! I begin taking classical voice lessons at the age of 15 and soon realized that my heart and soul belonged to opera and had to continue my studies a lot more in depth.

I went to the University of California of Los Angeles where I received my Bachelor of Arts with my emphasis in Opera Performance. Throughout the years spent at UCLA, I not only continued to sing with choral groups, but also performed in every opera. I sang one of the principles roles in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges, and sang one of the principles roles in many opera scen
es such as Dorabella from Così fan tutte, Mercedes in Carmen, Second Lady in The Magic Flute, Nerone in L'incorazione di Poppea.

Since I graduated college I sang the role of Rebecca Nurse in The Crucible with the Miami Music Festival. Besides opera, I compete in vocal competitions and sing in professional choirs in San Diego and Los Angeles.

As a teacher my job is to help my students learn to sing with as much ease as possible, while refining the instrument for the classical repertoire. I not only focus on technique, but also diction and artistry, because as singers we are story tellers.

Sarabeth has been giving my 13 year old daughter voice lessons for choir and she's been fantastic. Sarabeth is professional, cordial, knowledgeable, and shows great care and patience when instructing my daughter. In the lessons that they've done together my daughter has made noticeable and significant improvements both to her voice and her confidence.

I would recommend Sarabeth as a instructor for a voice student of any age.

About Willie
I am a professional low brass musician (euphonium, trombone, bass trombone). I enlisted in the US Navy in 2005 and since then I have performed all over the world in places like England, Germany, Morrocco, Ghana, Bermuda, Mexico, and across the US.

I have studied with Pete DuBeau (principle tubist, Virginia Symphony), Ross Whitlock (US Army, retired). Additional studies with Brian Bowman (University of North Texas), and Roger Behrend (George Mason University, and former principle euphonium, US Navy Band).

I believe that music should be enjoyed not only by the listener, but by the performer as well. I practice because I want to and not because I have to. In my opinion, as a teacher, there is nothing that brings a smile to my face quicker than to see a student finally play an excerpt or piece of music that has frustrated him or her fo
r a while. As a musician, nothing makes me happier than to hear a piece of music played the way it was intended.

I don't like to lose auditions, but my goal for you is that if I must lose, it should be to you. I feel that every teacher should want their students to surpass them, much like a parent wanting their child to be more successful.
