I started playing French horn in college. When I decided to become a music teacher, I had to learn how to play all instruments, and I fell in love with the horn!
I've been teaching for over 30 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to produce a good, solid tone, begin learning how to read music, and be able to play simple songs. Any beginning horn method book will get us started. In addition to your horn and book, you will also need valve oil. As you progress, a a metronome may be helpful. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

French Horn:
A brass instrument made of tubing wrapped into a coil with a flared bell. The double horn in F/Bb is the horn most often used by players in professional orchestras and bands. Pitch is controlled through the combination of the following factors: speed of propulsion of air through the instrument, diameter and tension of lip aperture in the mouthpiece. The pitch of any note can easily be raised or lowered by adjusting the hand position in the bell. Starting with the basics we would first learn breathing and fingering techniques, notes, reading, rhythms, and songs. As the student progresses scales, theory and soloing will be taught.

Why TakeLessons?
Hear From TakeLessons Students
Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

Oliver is great. He has provided helpful instruction, advice about performance nerves, and has been super-flexible in scheduling.
Honestly, we were initially a little skeptical of online lessons. It took a few weeks to get into a routine, but now they are working out quite well. An advantage to the online format has been how easy it is to re-schedule when we have one-off conflicts, and it's actually kind of nice having lessons in your own home.
In a perfect world, we would love to take lessons from Oliver in-person!"
