I first heard about Marianna while I was attending The Orange County High School of the Arts through a fellow student, Heidi Dean, who had this incredible voice and I knew I wanted to train with her. Marianna came to our school to see ‘Into the Woods’ and I met her after the show. Immediately her whole energy and aura was different than anyone I had ever met and we decided to train together. I would meet with Marianna every week and she would teach me these crazy voice exercises and really taught me how to shape and strengthen my voice. But Marianna taught me something and gives something to her students and the people in her life that goes beyond technique and vocal range. She gave me a confidence and connection to the artist in me, the professional in me, and the spirit that exists in all true artists. That is her true gift. I credit Marianna to my being cast in my first Broadway show, the revival of ‘Flower Drum Song’ starring Lea Salonga and still look to her for inspiration and direction. Let’s give and support Marianna back into the space where she can best share her gifts with the singers and artists who are waiting for her lesson.

I am a classically trained singer, with experience singing solo, in choirs, and roles with professional opera companies. Within the first few lessons, you'll learn the fundamentals of vocal technique and as time goes on you'll be performance ready. I specialize in teaching healthy vocal technique, applicable to all styles of singing, from pop to Broadway to opera. Come discover your voice!

About Sheila
I have earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands. As a professional singer, I have performed in numerous concerts and operas. I've sung in both choral and solo settings, as well as fully staged productions. Throughout my education, I have played piano and even participated in Certificate of Merit testing. These experiences have all helped shape me into a well rounded singer.

In lessons, I devote equal amounts of time to technique and repertoire. We will always begin by warming up, and working on some exercises. Then we will implement your new techniques into your repertoire, which I will tailor to your specific needs and wants.

Above all, though, I want to help you realize your dreams as a musician! Looking forward to getting started!

I offer Broadway vocal training with focus of belting technique and repertoire. Voice is my first instrument and I teach all levels. The vocal technique I teach is drawn from the Bel Canto Tradition and tailored to fit more modern styles of music with emphasis on posture, muscle relaxation and breathing technique among fun and interesting vocal exercises!

About ELENA
Hello!
Music is my life and my biggest passion. I've been a working musician and a teacher for several years and there's nothing more rewarding than sharing all I've learned so far with my students, to nurture their goals and aspirations and to make them aware of the great instrument they already possess. Every year I plan and host two wonderful recitals for my students, so that they can experience and share their progress with family and friends.

Here's more about me and my education:
I was born and raised in Italy and have been singing since I was a child but started a formal training during my teenage years with a private coach. During college, while studying Psychology at the University of Florence, I attended 2 different private music schools in Florence and Bologna, since it was not possible at the time to study music in Colleg
e. There I kept studying vocal technique, solfege, classical guitar and music harmony.
I moved to LA 11 years ago and attended Musician's Institute earning a diploma in Vocal Studies and Vocal Performance and then I attended a Composition & Songwriting Program at UCLA for 2 years. I refined my vocal technique studying at Berkley College of Music for a summertime in a special program for Jazz Vocalists and I have been an Alexander Technique's student for now 10+ years.
I am a performing artist, I sing and teach privately for a living and, on the side, I help an Opera Touring company promote their tours. I have performed all over the country in some beautiful venues such as the Getty Center and Pantages Theater to name a few. Guitar is my second instrument but I accompany students with my piano during vocal exercises. My personal style of singing is modern, not operatic, I love many kinds of music but especially pop, jazz, and musical theater.

***Lessons Details***

**Singing: Teaching Adults**
There are two sides of singing that I like to work on with my students.
The first is vocal technique, which is first and foremost the study of how to use our instrument, our whole body, in the best and most useful way to avoid strain ad create beautiful sounds. I believe that when we relax and use the right posture, meaning the most natural one, then our bodies and our breathing mechanisms act as they are supposed to, and singing magically happens at its best. When we learn to use our bodies without strain, the right "singing" muscles are automatically engaged and exercised and we feel at ease. So I try to encourage a non-forceful way to use diaphragmatic breathing, which I have learned by studying Alexander Technique, which is a technique that teaches people how to stop using unnecessary levels of muscular and mental tension during any activity, especially during an artistic performance of any kind.
I try to notice bad singing habits the student may have formed throughout his/her life, (hopefully none!), and gently help them correct them. The vocal exercises I use are drawn from the Bel Canto tradition, a classical tradition, but I mix them with more modern vocal exercises to develop popular techniques like "belting" for example.
The second side of singing is simply to pay attention to song interpretation, to convey the message we would like to convey. I encourage the student to choose songs to work on they truly love, and I welcome any style of music. I give the students vocal exercises CDs to help them practice at home.

**Singing: Teaching Children**
What I described above is also true for teaching children, however I like to teach them "by ear" with simple vocal exercises and vocal games at the beginning of the lesson and try to ease them into the sound they naturally make. I like to create a positive environment in which the student can feel successful about even small achievements, whether it is standing in a relaxed way or having practiced the beginning of an exercise or part of a song. To help the student practice at home and keep the motivation alive without feeling overwhelmed I record each lesson (or let them record it) and give them the accompaniment for the song of their choice so they can have fun at home.

*** GUITAR ***
I teach young children using fun songs, games and classical guitar technique. I also teach adults and specialize in contemporary guitar. I welcome many styles of music, pop, rock as well as folk genres of Latin America. I emphasize good posture, tone and musicality, and always a high level of enjoyment with the process!

*** RECITALS ***
I plan and host 2 wonderful Recitals a year, one in January and one in June. I encourage all my students to participate, no matter how they may feel about their instrument level and preparation. Working towards a performance is one of the most effective ways to solidify your ever growing skill!

*** Studio Equipment ***
For students who come to my home studio, there is private guest parking right outside my building, in a gated complex of buildings and in a safe neighborhood just north of the 101. My studio is conveniently located just a few blocks from the freeway entrance. I have a comfortable sofa for parents and siblings to attend the lessons and a keyboard to use for accompaniment. Also, I periodically offer my students the chance to record one song in my studio, equipped with nice microphones and a professional recording system.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For singing lessons I bring my small and light master-keyboard and laptop or I can use the student piano/keyboard. For children's lesson I ask my students to bring a notebook to keep track of practice assignments.

*** Specialties ***
Music theory and Songwriting. Stage performance and how to feel comfortable on stage. Additionally I teach vocal jazz improvisation, Broadway singing and Italian song repertoire.

More and more revivals are showing up on Broadway and they call for a "legit" sound. That means a classical technique with a musical theater style. Be prepared! The rigors of the musical theater schedule are demanding. A good technique is your only defense against 6-9 shows a week! Protect your finest asset- your talent. No one knows how to do that better than an opera singer...especially on who has sung plenty of musical theater!

About Tania
I am an enthusiastic teacher with a nuts-and bolts approach to singing. With over 20 years of training as an opera singer my technique is impeccable! I teach all styles and ages from beginner to professional. Can't carry a tune? You can learn! Love to sing in the shower? Dry off and sing out proud! Is your kid a Broadway Baby? Give him or her the best training and keep those cords SAFE with proper technique. If your child isn't a typical learner- have no fear. I am a patient and experienced teacher with ASD and ADHD kids. All learning styles welcome! I have trained with the best and am ready to share my knowledge. Come train in a fun and nurturing environment while improving by leaps and bounds!

I work with students of all ages and levels of experience. My goal as a private voice instructor is first and foremost to make sure that singing remains a source of joy for my students.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
My students improve their technique through breathing and technical exercises, they expand their knowledge of musical literature through exposure to a wide variety of repertoire, and they learn to become not only a better singer, but a better all around musician as I integrate music theory, sight-singing, and musicianship into each lesson. They also gain the valuable experience of live performance, as they are given the opportunity to present their repertoire in a studio-wide recital twice a year.

About Anna
My background:
-Taught voice, acting, dance workshops throughout the US, UK, Europe, and Japan
-Taught English through Music and Drama in Japan for 2 years, also taught musical theatre and dance workshops
-A.A. in Music from Mt. SAC. Performed throughout Poland, Germany, Monterey Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall
-2018 Spring, will have my B.A. in Vocal Music Education from CSUF. So far have performed with the LA Phil at Hollywood Bowl, and recorded with film composer John Williams
-I've been teaching in-studio voice and piano lessons for a little over a year with Brush Stroke Music in San Dimas

Like I mentioned, I teach students of all ages and levels of experience. Because I've worked with such a variety of students over the years, I'm able to better create a unique and effective learning experience for each of my students.

About Kelly
I recently relocated to Los Angeles after working as a performer, voice teacher, accompanist, composer, and choreographer in New York City for over eight years. I graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory with a BFA in Musical Theatre, Minor in Piano Performance, and a Vocal Performance Certificate. I have graced the stage in a multitude of musical theatre productions, including the international Broadway tour of HAIR, directed by the Tony-Award–winning Diane Paulus. In addition to writing and performing my own music, I have also sung and toured with several NYC-based bands at some of the country’s top music venues.

My experience in classical, musical theatre, and contemporary commercial vocal styles allows me to provide a well-rounded education for my students. Using principles from Estill Voice Technique, I train my students to heal
thily produce sound in all parts of their register. I work to eliminate the "break" in each student's voice, giving them the confidence to tackle challenging pieces.

I carefully select repertoire for each student in their chosen style or styles (musical theatre, classical, contemporary commercial, etc.). Students may bring in a song of their choosing, or any audition/callback material. I can also assist in finding appropriate audition songs, and marking "16 bar" or "32 bar" cuts.

In addition to voice lessons, I offer singer-songwriter coaching. I work with writers as both a guide and collaborator to bring out their unique artistic voice. I also teach students how to properly sing and play an instrument* at the same time.
(*Instrumental instruction in piano and ukulele only. Guitar playing is permitted, but student must already be at intermediate playing proficiency.)

I am very passionate about my field, and take great pride in guiding each student to their fullest artistic potential!
