I've been teaching beginner to intermediate cello for 1 year. I played cello for 2 years in High School orchestra.

About Olivia
I love to create. The way I'm most comfortable creating is through writing; whether it's a song, a short story, a poem or a script. Writing has always been the bass line in my life; the heartbeat.

Music and film are both passions of mine. I graduated from Berklee College of Music where I studied Songwriting and Music Therapy. I was pushed to my absolute limits lyrically and musically within these majors, and I am so grateful for it now that I'm on my own creative journey.

I have a great deal of experience, but I am also still learning. I think it is very important as a teacher to always be learning, especially through their students. Teaching these lessons is, of course, about progress and advancement - but also about enjoyment, confidence building and positive encouragement.

I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston.
I'm currently accepting students in San Francisco and surrounding areas for cello, piano, guitar, beatboxing, and live looping.

I have a patient and relaxed attitude toward teaching with an emphasis on a balance between having fun while learning and developing the methodology of practice and discipline.
Lessons are taught in your home or at my studio in the Mission District.

About Joseph
Joey aka CelloJoe is an anomaly in the world of cellists.

By combining cello with beatboxing, he has created a unique genre: Classical Hip Hop.

CelloJoe records live on stage with a loop pedal and produces intricate tapestries of harmony, melody, and rhythm. His beatboxing (vocal percussion) and funky cello grooves form a rich soundscape for intelligent lyrics and his music spreads love, joy, laughter and conscious vibrations.

By beatboxing, throatsinging, singing, plucking and bowing the cello, CelloJoe can mimic many styles of music from dubstep to folk to rock to classical to hip hop.

CelloJoe is the world's first long distance musical bike touring cellist.
He has ridden his bike over 10,000 miles in the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Australia.

Joey has been a great cello teacher. I like the fact that his experience covers a broad range of music. When I want to make an arrangement of a heavy metal song, or I need to learn the nuance of baroque performance, he's there.
He's a working musician so his schedule is somewhat variable, but he is good about communicating and always comes when he says he will. He's personable and enthusiastic.

I provide a fun experience of learning to play and share music. My philosophy in working with students is to curb their interests with my vision for their success with technique and musicality. I want my student to not only become good cellist, but also enjoy music on a theoretical and historical level. My overall goal is to make a connection with people that will last and music can be an outlet for growing as a person.

About Carrie
Carrie recently relocated to Ann Arbor Michigan after finishing her masters to start a cello studio and freelance. Since moving she has performed with the Jackson Symphony, South West Symphony Orchestra, and West Symphony Orchestra.
Carrie Miller studied at Florida State University with Greg Sauer for a Masters of Music in cello performance and received a Bachelors of Music in cello performance from the California State University Sacramento where she studied with Professor Andrew Luchansky.
Carrie began playing the cello at nine years old in Davis California where she grew up. During her 4 years at CSU, Sacramento, she had masterclasses with pianist-composer, Eric Zivian, cellist, Timothy Eddie, and cellist, Steven Doane. In 2015 she performed the Lalo Cello Concerto after being a winner of the CSU Sacramento Concerto Competition.
While attending Florida State University, Carrie performed with the opera, the University Symphony Orchestra, the baroque ensemble, and the viol ensemble. During her masters, she also performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Symphonia Gulf Coast Orchestra, Albany Symphony Orchestra, and Panama City Pops Orchestra. One of the greatest moments in her career was to play with world renowned singer, Renee Fleming.
She has taught cello privately for the past 10 years and continues to do so with her private studio as well as working for The Community Music School of Ann Arbor where she works as a cello teacher, chamber music coach, and operations manager. Teaching enriches her life as a person and cellist by connecting with musicians of any level and sharing her passion for music.

As a passionate cello player, I want my students to have fun but also really understand their instrument and the music they are playing! Students will learn their scales through the circle of fifths, shifting positions, vibrato techniques, music theory, and performing with an accompanist. They are expected to have fun but to work hard - it’s totally worth it!

About Melissa
I have been playing piano for 23 years and cello for 16 years. I love sharing music with others and seeing them grow to love music as well. I am currently a pianist for the KC Ballet’s ROAD program. I have a Bachelors of Music from Lindenwood University. I have been a piano accompanist for 7 years. I taught 5th grade Orchestra Club in the Fort Zumwalt School District and was a substitute teacher for Orchestra classes for 3 years. I have been teaching private lessons for 10 years.

Cello lessons are more than about learning cello technique. Music is meant to be thought provoking, challenging, and fun, so I believe cello lessons should reflect these qualities.

Main goals for my students:
-become better problem solvers
-think imaginatively
-become more attentive listeners
-fostering a love for the cello and music in general
-live as advocates for music and the arts

As a performer, I’ve played with professional orchestras, rock bands, jazz bands, collaborated with dancers, formed a trio, given solo recitals, etc. The point is, there is no one way to be a cellist. Learning the cello is rewarding regardless of your reasons.
My approach to teaching the cello consists of a balance between fostering technique, self-expression, and learning to navigate the complexities of music theory that I hope leaves each student well equipped to continue tackling problems on their own outside of private lessons.

About Cory
Cellist Cory Blais is an active performer and teacher based out of Austin, Texas where he currently studies under Bion Tsang in the Masters of Music degree program at The University of Texas. Cory is on the faculty of The University of Texas String Project, a program recognized as being one of the world’s finest for the training of teachers and the development of young talent where he enjoys teaching classes on cello technique, music theory, and conducting the program’s Advanced Orchestra in addition to his private cello studio. During the summer, he spends his time performing as a member of the newly formed piano trio, the Wundertrio, and attending music festivals; most recently including the Manchester Music Festival, Colorado College Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival and School among others. Cory received a Bachelors of Musi
c degree from The Ohio State University in 2015 studying under Mark Rudoff.
