I've been teaching beginner to intermediate cello for 1 year. I played cello for 2 years in High School orchestra.

About Olivia
I love to create. The way I'm most comfortable creating is through writing; whether it's a song, a short story, a poem or a script. Writing has always been the bass line in my life; the heartbeat.

Music and film are both passions of mine. I graduated from Berklee College of Music where I studied Songwriting and Music Therapy. I was pushed to my absolute limits lyrically and musically within these majors, and I am so grateful for it now that I'm on my own creative journey.

I have a great deal of experience, but I am also still learning. I think it is very important as a teacher to always be learning, especially through their students. Teaching these lessons is, of course, about progress and advancement - but also about enjoyment, confidence building and positive encouragement.

I've been teaching music for 15 yrs on guitar, piano, bass, cello and bass. My students have ranged from from 5yrs to 75yrs of age. I have seen many student go on to join orchestras, bands, broadway shows or simply continued their education to a university or college. Being able to read music profeciently has given me the opportunity to teach off many method books but like to use Alfred Method, Mel Bay and Frederick Noad Method books. I teach many styles ranging from classical, jazz & blues, rock, contemporary and pop. I do stress and recommend all my students to learn how to read music and usually by our second or third lesson they will playing simple songs. I am here to help you make music!

About Omar
Knowing that you are looking for a instructor to teach you music puts a smile on my face. You see, music has been a part of my life since the age of 3. Some of my first memories are of me accompanying my father at home with his rehearsals or just singing together to have fun as a family. I believe music is a gift that unites people together bringing out our deepest emotions that words cannot express. At the age of 5 I received an organ and from that point on I embarked on a long life journey to indulge and learn more about music. In elementary, junior high and high school I was involved in any subject dealing with music. I joined school choirs, orchestras, bands, marching bands, jazz bands, musicals you name it. While enjoying all school music activities I was selected to join in honor county and state orchestras and choirs. In junior h
igh and high school I was selected to play for the Junior Pacific Symphony Orchestra, received scholarships to music summer camps, and was selected musician of the year. In college my quest continued with the Orange Coast College Orchestra, Praise Symphony Orchestra, Vanguard University Orchestra as well as guitar ensembles and college choir groups. I've also taken private lessons from Dr. Art David (Julliard graduate) in stand up bass as well as David Black (Pacific Symphony Orchestra) and classical guitar with Richard Glenn and David Murray. I've been teaching now for 15 years in guitar, classical guitar, bass guitar, stand up bass, cello, piano and voice ranging from 5 yr old to 65 yr old. My styles of music range from classical, jazz, rock, blues and contemporary. At this point I'm enjoying playing and singing in my church choir and worship team as well as teaching my two kids the joys of music. I hope you truly enjoy the joy of learning music whether it be through me or another teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher I require all students to set time aside to practice. For without it, it is only wasting your time, your money and my time. I don't expect a total dedication to it but I do want to see some effort put into it. A little practice can go a long way and the more you do it, the faster you will progress and the more you will enjoy it. We will first start off with what you want out of music and the level you are at and go from there. Student can bring their own music either thru tabs, music sheet or just by ear but one thing I do expect is a student to learn how to read music notation. We will go thru the regular warm up exercises, material practiced during the week and any new music for the following week. Correct techniques in how to hold your instrument or voice procedures will be addressed. Music theory will also be part of the lesson as well as ear training. At the end of either 3 to 6 months you will have learned the basics of music and will be playing songs for you or someone else to enjoy. I will make it a total relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere but some dedication has to put on the students' part.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated music room, guitar both classical and electric, piano, cello, upright bass and electric bass guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own instrument. I can also provide music stand, small amplifier if needed and music material for the first few lesson until student provides for him/her self. Student must have own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
My way of teaching would have to be that they must learn how to read music while learning how to play an instrument.

I can help beginning students on cello learn the basics.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

*** Specialties ***
music, band, orchestra, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, violin, viola, cello, string bass, piano, Percussion

Hello aspiring cello student! I am excited to meet you. I love what I do, and I want to help you love it too. I think no matter what your path is in life, music is so fulfilling, and can bring so much happiness. Age doesn't matter, it's never too late to learn. Maybe it's a hobby, maybe you're trying to get into the LA Phil? Either way, if you're looking for a fun, silly and patient teacher, I am here to help you every step of the way on your cello journey. I have been teaching for two years now, and many of my students have moved up very quickly in their school ensembles. I make sure to teach fundamentals while still keeping it light and fun. Learning the cello takes time, but it's so rewarding, so don't give up!

About Gillian
I am 25 years old and I started playing the cello when I was 18 years old. Many people told me I was starting this instrument "too late", but I am here to tell you that is not true. I have been a paid performer for several years now, and I teach full time both privately and in the classroom. I just completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Redlands as a cello performance major. I enjoy teaching people something new. I encourage you to learn a new instrument if that is what you want, because why not? Nothing makes me happier than seeing that I can help another human being. Many of my students advance quickly because I tailor my teaching to each individuals personal needs. Whatever your age or occupation, I believe in you, so let's have fun together!

I can say with confidence that after knowing Gillian for about three years, she has the best qualities one can find in a teacher. Gillian's passion for music, her patience, her humor, and her kindness allow students to excel quickly if they are willing to learn. I took a short lesson with her on the basic mechanics of the cello and she was clear with her explanations, gave me constructive criticism if I was doing something wrong while playing, and made the environment very inviting through her positive attitude. She strives to help her students progress and her effort is always apparent. I would definitely recommend her!
