Although I am primarily a saxophonist, clarinet is a secondary instrument that most saxophonists also have to know how to play. As a performer it is an absolute necessity that I be able to double on the clarinet and be just as proficient.
My goal as a teacher is to provide an in depth understanding of the instrument to my students. Whether we are learning technique specific to the instrument or general musical concepts, it is important to me that I take the time to insure that my students not only learn how to do something, but also the reasons why we are learning a specific concept or technique. At the end of the day, my ultimate goal is to teach you how to teach yourself, so that you may enjoy playing the instrument outside of our lessons together.
I prefer not to conform to a specific teaching style, because every student is different, and I have been fortunate to have a great variety of types of students throughout my years as a teacher. Some of my students are ...

Hear From TakeLessons Clarinet Students
Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

Happening across Takelessons.com while in search of a good clarinet teacher for our daughter, was by far the easiest and most rewarding. We feel grateful to have been so lucky.
Mikaela has been EXCELLENT in every sense of the word. She comes on time to our home for every lesson. She takes her time with our daughter and teaches in a way that makes our daughter look forward to each lesson. Mikaela is extremely knowledgeable about the instrument and what she is teaching, and it shows each and every time she teaches. The very first lesson, Mikaela let us know that our daughters instrument was not working properly (we didn't have a clue). She knew exactly what was wrong with it, and we had it fixed by the next lesson. Her communication with our daughter and with us is the best it could possibly be. We are so happy and fortunate to have found the perfect match for our 12 year old clarinet player. Our daughter was recently complimented by her music teacher at school, and was very excited to hear how well she is progressing."
