I focus on note reading and music theory, in addition to technical studies. I encourage chamber music and will often pair up students to play duets and trios.

About Mari

Welcome to my music studio! This will be a fun, incredible way to start or continue your music instruction. I have been a private violin and piano instructor since 1991. I took a break in 2005 while my kids were little. Now that they have grown up a bit, I am so excited to come back to this!

Mari was an awesome instructor, and very kind.

I absolutely loved learning from Mari for my piano lessons! As an adult learner, I felt like my brain doesn't work as fast as it used to, so learning a new instrument was difficult, but Mari completely caters each lesson to my learning speed and maximized my abilities. She takes into accounts the areas and types of music I wanted to learn and helped me to achieve being able to play that type of music. I also loved and appreciated that she works around my busy work schedule and accommodating lessons when plans change throughout the week. I would highly recommend Mari as a music teacher to anyone interested in learning a new instrument at all ages!

Recently graduated from Juilliard, I've been teaching violin and viola for five years, and welcome students of all levels and ages. My background is firmly classical, but additionally I also love fiddle music and give students songs from many genres to learn, arranging upon request. I'm currently a doctoral student at USC, and I work part-time locally as a violinist in the YMF Debut Orchestra. I am also glad to help students with recording, video editing and social media.

About Alexander

As a violin teacher, I always aim to set goals for students, to guide students towards them, and to be direct as possible so far as is appropriate. I also try to stay results-oriented throughout the process. Even if not all of a student’s progress is directly attributable to me, the most important

I really appreciated Alexander teaching me violin. He was basically my first instructor and he was always patient and motivating. He accommodated my unique needs as an adult beginner and brought me far in a short time. He was a little challenged to balance teaching with his heavy school load, but I appreciated his willingness to take the time to teach and help others.

I started taking lessons with Jacqueline after having bought a violin and done some practicing on my own for a few months. She was quickly able to formulate lesson plans for me based on my background and experience. She has also been very good about correcting my technique and pushing me to challenge myself, and is always helpful in answering my many questions. Overall she is a very knowledgeable, professional, down-to-earth and friendly instructor.

My 11 year old daughter has studied with Jacqueline for 1.5 years and is really enjoying the process. Jacqueline is a kind and warm teacher which is very encouraging. My daughter wants to practice and improve in order to impress her sweet teacher. We are very happy with lessons with Jacqueline. She even teaches Disney music... not just the classics. She will look for whatever my daughter is interested in playing and then plays with her. I highly recommend her.

Me and J worked together for three years before I went to college and I’m glad she asked me for this review. J is really patient and fun to work with. I mostly wanted to learn movie music and she was cool with that. Good lessons, chill teacher.

Both my daughters loved violin with Marina (8 years of lessons)! She is patient with beginners and inspiring with advanced students.
Makell
I have been playing the violin for 9 years, and 3 of those years Marina Hallows was my teacher. In those years she has taught me more than previous teachers. She possesses many good qualities for teaching, I especially like her way about technique. Since applying her method I've improved dramatically, and do not regret taking lessons from her. Because of Marina, my playing is much more advanced.
Katelin
I have played violin for 16 years, and took lessons from Marina for about 3 of them. I learned more in those 3 years about posture, technique, position, intonation, etc. than I ever did before then. She is very particular to detail and requires you to do your best whether in person or online. I was challenged to exceed and grow far beyond the things I had previously learned, and began to be quite advanced in my playing thanks to Marina's teachings.

"Mr. Lacey is the Best!!

My 5 year old LOVES him. Mr. Lacey communicates well with his students. He uses positive reinforcement, but makes it a point to teach that students take ownership. My grandson has only been taking lessons for a couple of months, and is already playing several songs on the violin. I would totally recommend Mr. Lacey to anyone interested in learning an instrument."

I leave each lesson wanting to work harder and the best part is that he gives me great tips on exactly HOW to practice so I can get the most out of my practice time. It's been a great experience and I am so thankful for the way he challenges me and gives helpful criticism so that I can become a better violinist."

How to Read Sheet Music: Violin Notes for Beginners | TakeLessons

The most valuable skill you can develop as a musician is learning to read music. While it’s possible to learn to play “by ear,” reading music opens up the world to you as an artist! There are many different ways to write music. Guitarists often read off of charts outlining the chord progressions for the song. Drummers have a rhythm chart showing them what to play. As a violinist, however, you'll most likely be reading off of violin sheet music. Standard sheet music is filled with direc …
