Almost all forms popular music in America got it's start in the blues. Musical genres such as both jazz and rock have their roots deeply in the blues. Some blues songs, such as Stormy Monday by T. Bone Walker were using basic blues chord patterns, but then on the 6th measure of each verse, T Bone would throw in a standard jazz chord progression. G9, Am7, Bm7, Bb13, Am7, D7b9, G9, followed by C9 back to the G9 and then the verse would end on a dominant 5th chord with a #9th, [D7#9]. This is where the 2 genres sometimes started to really mix with each other. Blues is the foundation where this all began. Rock and roll on the other hand, stayed closer to older and simpler blues chord progressions and licks, but played the tempos far quicker than a blues song would play, and the rhythm section would also play a lot more aggressively than a blues band would. Early rock and roll stayed very close to the original and more simple chord progressions of the earlier blues songs.

I have been seeing Jeff for about 3 years. I was an old folkie - with no time to practice - for about 50 years, but finally my wife bought me some lessons when I retired. Hit it off with Jeff immediately. He really knows the music I want - which in my case is classic rock - but he can do pretty much anything you need. Still give him 5 stars!

I immediately felt at ease with Jeff and it did not take him long to figure me out and point me in the right direction. Looking forward to many more lessons with him. I wish I lived here so it could be on a more regular basis. But happy with what I CAN get. Thanks Jeff!

My Aunty is turning 80 this weekend and I decided to learn how to play Happy Birthday on the ukulele as a surprise for her. Jeff not only helped me accomplish my goal but also got me started on other songs as well. His patience and enthusiastic personality made the lessons not ony productive but personable as well!!! 2 thumbs up to an awesome instructor!!!!!

Matt was my guitar teacher from 5th grade to 10th grade, teaching me electric guitar for over five years. Now as a Junior in college, I am still thankful for the lessons Matt taught me to have a great foundation in playing guitar. Matt is one of the most knowledgeable people a student could learn from. He pays special detail to the habits that many guitar players fall into when beginning, and made sure these habits were eliminated quickly. I had both parents, grandparents, and friends sit in on our lessons and all were impressed with the careful and thorough approach of Matt’s teaching. Thank you Matt!

Matt has taught me electric guitar through High School and I had learned techniques beyond I thought I could ever conquer. He is a exceptional teacher and is very inspiring to my guitar playing and music capabilities.

"I'm an older self taught player that finally decided to take lessons. I have been working with William for a little over a month now. He began with cleaning up my playing position. This was really big for me as I have had issues that prevented me from playing as long as I would like due to back and hand pain.
William spent the time to figure out where I was and wanted to go. Im very pleased with the progress I'm making and am confident that taking lessons with William was a great choice. He has also been very giving of his time to help pick out instruments and gear to move my instruction along.
I see a lot of instructors here that are players trying to augment their gigging money by giving lessons. Williams education and background really show in his lesson presentation and effectiveness."

After just one jam-packed 60 min lesson with Eric I know he's the teacher that can do just that. I feel like I've already learned more than I could in weeks of doing it on my own.

Super pumped to reignite my guitar learning with Eric as I know I'll be able to make progress faster with the proper guided direction.

Blues Guitar Basics: How to Play a Blues Shuffle

Ready to learn to play blues guitar? This lesson from guitar teacher James W. is the perfect place to start... What is a shuffle, anyway? A shuffle is a rhythm of 8th notes played in triplets, essentially playing 3/4 time over a 4/4 beat to make the music swing. Blues, pop, jazz, and rock musicians all use the shuffle. The blues shuffle is a fun pattern that is simple to absorb into your playing across many genres of music. Think of pop, rock, big band, and blues as being a part of the s …
