I have been playing and teaching the violin professionally for all of my adult life. I trained in the UK, where I gained a violin teaching diploma, and since then I have performed and recorded with many well known ensembles and have taught both privately and in educational institutions.
In my lessons I aim to achieve an informal environment for my students and I teach technique, music reading and interpretation as well as general music appreciation. I give lessons to beginners through to advanced levels.
I strongly believe music to be an art and a very important means of self expression.

About Pierre

I graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and joined the BBC Midland Radio Orchestra. From there I joined the English String Orchestra as Sub Leader touring the USA and Europe and making many recordings. Whilst working with the ESO I developed an interest in the Baroque violin and joined

My teaching philosophy is that music is for ALL ages and ALL abilities. I love teaching foremost because of the connection between student and teacher; I have been really blessed to have some wonderful mentors throughout my life, and I value being able to mentor others. I am here as a teacher to see you for your unique set of strengths, interests, and goals.

My first lesson was very good. She took the time to explain and we progressed at a good pace. She explained things and showed me proper techniques to hold the violin and the bow. Overall the lesson was fun and exciting.

I started working with Alyssa in person when she was teaching violin in Salt Lake City. Once she moved to Los Angeles I agreed to try the online lessons. I have found this method of learning to be very valuable. Alyssa has a unique way of teaching. While the traditional principles of violin playing are taught Alyssa includes mindfulness and breath in her methods. She also introduces improvisation and takes music beyond its notes on the page.

Alyssa was very thorough and met my objectives.

Each lesson is fun and engaging. My philosophy is to teach students how to teach themselves and how to think critically about problem solving. A variety of music and exercises will be introduced. Younger students will play a variety of theory games and do exercises to accelerate their potential.

Jenae is a great teacher!

My son just started violin lessons with Jenae and after barely a month is making great progress and staying motivated, even though he's starting this endeavor at almost 11 years old. Jenae's approach is very encouraging and methodical. We have been very pleased with our choice.

I'm sorry, I cannot handle this Instructor for my children. She wasn't me but she's not quite the people person I expected. Her personality is not a good match for a high school tutor. Unfortunately her English is not good enough. Her accent is entirely too strong. Also she does not know enough Geometry to help my kids.

"Concetta taught violin lessons for my young daughter, who loved the lessons and picked things up so fast with Concetta's guidance. She is patient, engaging and extremely knowledgeable. She offered my daughter a wonderful mix of classical technique and creative songwriting. I have also observed her teaching in a group setting with the violin program she created for the school called Still Waters in A Storm. So inspiring. She has tons of experience. Concetta is a gem. "I really appreciate Lucy Lu, my violin teacher. she is what one would expect for a violin teacher specially if you're like me 68 years and no experience whatsoever with the instrument. Had I stayed in Los Angeles, I see no problem in continuing taking lessons from her because I know that sooner or later, I would learn despite my busy schedule as a tax accountant. Thank you Lucy. I will miss you."

"Evan has transformed my life. As a concert pianist and a former student trainee of Opera Memphis, I have had innumerable music teachers throughout my life. However, I have never had a teacher like Evan. He took me from absolute beginner - starting with learning how to even hold a violin - to decently proficient in a relatively short amount of time. He tailors his instruction in such a way that each student can understand. He has enormously high standards but he inspires students to achieve them. Evan's lessons are incredibly convenient, located close to a metro and with flexible hours to accomodate a hectic work schedule.

I cannot overstate what a transformative impact meeting Evan has had on my life. It's made me a better musician in all of my instruments, because he instills a deeper understanding of theory and musicianship. Violin is a challenging instrument, if not the most challenging, but Evan skillfully guides students to mastery. Randomly deciding to buy a violin and doing a quick search for local teachers one day was the best decision I've ever made, and it's all because of Evan. I can't imagine life without my violin teacher!"

How to Measure the Success of Your Child’s Violin Lessons

When it comes to violin for kids, how can you tell if your investment and energy is worth it? Here, San Francisco, CA violin teacher Carol Beth L. shares her advice...   Parents and teachers want the best for their children and students. Both want to believe in their children's potential. So do the children themselves. All groups want the child to be successful. But not all of them measure success in the same way. When children, parents, and teachers disagree on what it means to be succ …
