My History of Piano:
I have been teaching piano for 10 years. My 25 years of training is mostly through private lessons and passed down generational methods taught through my mentor, Joann Maybe.

My Teaching Method:
I assess each students' levels, knowledge and styles of learning, determine the best learning paths to incorporate into the lesson and bring a "natural movement" approach of training and education.

With my method, this is to provide a collaborative & supportive environment as well as actively develop a person's life, culture and well-being. I strive to take a step further and deeper within the mind of the person who is learning dance and find one's "True Inner Dancer."

About Ferlyn
My Teaching Philosophy:
"Everyone is capable of dancing, playing an instrument, and understanding music & art performance; it is the desire, drive, determination, dedication and discipline instilled within a person and the guidance of my company's methodology that will bring these abilities to light." - Ferlyn

I believe each and every person has a unique brand of movement, understanding of music, and learning style for any dance form or instrument. Whether it is hip hop, breaking, ballet, jazz, tap, ballroom, dancing for a wedding, birthday, or flash mob, playing the piano, singing or even learning the theory of music or dance, I make sure to bring out the best quality within your learning, expand that knowledge and encourage you to become your fullest potential as my student. I bring a different light to each lesson of dance, piano a
nd/or music and bring your abilities to a level that is more knowledgeable, adequately refined, near to perfection and professional over time, and definitely enjoyable.

My Biography:
I started at the age of 5 with the desire to perform and entertain. With the drive of a freestyle & street dancer, I emulated Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Michael Jackson as a few of my dance inspirations. I also grew up driven into the background of piano, having trained in various methods such as Alfred, Bastien, Faber, Carr-Glover & Glover, Thompson and Schuam, expanding my knowledge and range as a pianist of 25 years.

In Los Angeles, I was determined to make dance my professional career and earned my Baccalaureate in Dance at California State University, Los Angeles. I learned alongside notable and popular mentors and instructors, training in modern, hip hop, breaking, popping, locking, house, tap, jazz and ballet. I choreographed for weddings, birthdays, within multiple shows, as well as became an advanced member of Cal State LA Jazz Tap Corps and the campus' hip hop crew, Team Flight.

Under much dedication for my professional career, my experiences exponentially grew after college as the Dance Choreographer & Director for Crenshaw Arts/Tech Charter High School's dance troupe, CATCH Kids, a troupe renowned for being featured on the Tyra Banks Show and catching the eyes of a few known performers such as Tommy The Clown, Debbie Allen, and Janet Jackson. I was a Dance Instructor in various studios such as the American Vive Dance Foundation, King's Dance Center, Expressions Dance and Movement Center, and Kruciaal Element's The Dancehouse. I worked with Kruciaal Element Dance Company as the previous Assistant Director and part of their freestyle dance crew, Stylematix, and performed in shows and events across San Diego County and Los Angeles County, including Monster Bash San Diego, Mardi Gras in The Gaslamp District, Dancescape, The Hot Spot Alhambra and The Moxie Showcase.

My current disciplines are focused and centered around Southern California as the CEO & Director of a Dance Company. I aim at providing a unique family of dancers and training musicians to be at their best. I am working on several upcoming pieces and providing a dance company that integrates dance community and dance industry knowledge, with a side of the 3 Heart-"Be3ts". Additionally, I have extensive knowledge and experience in Filipino traditional dance, ballroom, social and line dancing, as well as a background in stage management, set design, and vocal training. My personal goals are to continue to express my passions, develop my talents, and especially motivate others to find their own true inner self, dancer, choreographer, musician, performer, entertainer and/or artist.

Given all of the positive reviews, I am refraining from giving Ferlyn only one star. I am sure she is relatively competent as a teacher. The unfortunate aspect for which she is receiving such a poor review is a significant lack of professionalism.
I arranged piano lessons with Ferlyn for my mother.
Her first lesson (for which I was present) was fine.
I then found out that at their second lesson, Ferlyn showed up very sick. This was quite concerning, especially given my mother’s age. Ferlyn definitely should have canceled that second lesson and not showed up so sick.
Then, only two hours (!) before my mother’s scheduled third lesson, I receive a text message from Ferlyn stating the following:
“Hi Dominique, wanted to let you and your mom that piano lessons will be cancelled today because it is my Birthday! I will see her next week. :)”
This was incredible. This was a cancellation only two hours prior, not due to some emergency or even due to her illness which should have caused a cancelation the week before! This was because it was her birthday. Something that would have been understandable, were she to have let us know well in advance. I am sure she knew in advance when her birthday is.
This does not reflect on TakeLessons, as I have had great experiences with other teachers.
But this degree of inconsiderateness, first with regard to the illness and then with regard to the manner of cancellation, is appalling.

About Steven
Steven B, Instructor
PIANO - GUITAR - VOICE
For over 25 years, Steven B has been successfully teaching hundreds of students on piano, guitar, and voice. He has over 60,000 hours experience as a teacher, musician, and performer. He teaches all styles, ages and skill levels. Beginners are most certainly welcome. The lessons are in the convenience of your home online throughout the United States with Multi-angle cameras for online students or in the Coronado Music Studio. Whatever your level, be prepared to learn and have fun!

In addition, he tailors the lessons to fit your goals and desires for your instrument, whether it be piano, guitar, and or voice! (Many of his students take lessons on two instruments, for example Guitar & Voice or Piano & Voice.) You may be wanting to learn your instrument from the beginning, and then finding out
your passion for a certain genre of music, or possibly learning and playing songs you love. In another example, you may have been playing for a period of time and possibly you desire to heighten your game, learning new skills and technique regarding your instrument. Or quite possibly, you want to blend the joy of singing while playing the piano or the guitar! It's time to go through the joy and benefits in playing a musical instrument and or singing!

PERFORMANCE
Steven B has extensive experience in performance. For many years, he performed piano and sang at many fine establishments throughout San Diego and Los Angeles. Later on, he produced a concert tour and performed 50 concerts to 15,000 young people throughout San Diego. The title of his concert tour is Heroes In Our World. Steven B played keyboards, guitar and sang. The concerts honored real-life moms, dads, doctors, nurses, teachers, athletes, entertainers who give back to charity, police officers, firemen, and explorers who make our world a better place. His list of performances continues. He has a record of being the only musician to write a song, produce it, playing the instruments and vocals, along with filming and editing the videos of the performances each week for 52 consecutive weeks. His students benefit because he teaches many aspects in performance and can prepare students for any kind of audition or performance.

In conclusion, whether you want to learn to play an instrument and/or sing just for your own benefit and joy... Or you want to perform... Or you want to be professional earning money with music - you have come to the correct place. He will be looking forward in working with you. Again, he teaches all styles, ages and skill levels. Beginners are most welcome. He currently has one or two openings for new students.

Reviews From Students and Parents (Piano - Guitar - Voice)

“I just wanted to say Thank You and let you know how much I appreciate all the information and help you have given Mikey. You helped him form a great hobby that he loves to do and the family loves to hear. He has come so far since his first lesson and I am happy you kept the Piano lessons interesting for him. Thanks again for being a kind, great teacher to him.” - Cheryl, 5 Stars!

“Steven B, a patient, gifted teacher has supervised my studies on guitar with good humor, wit and flexibility.  I would recommend him without hesitation to players young and old.” - Tim, 5 Stars!

“I took voice and piano lessons in Steven B’s Coronado Music Studio and also online via Skype.  Both experiences were great, and it was really convenient to do the lessons on Skype.  Steven B is an excellent teacher, and he is very patient.  I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to play an instrument or sing!” - Kat , 5 Stars!

“Steven B’s fun and patient teaching style rocks. I see how his bright, fun-loving personality, and knowledge of music for piano makes him top choice as my daughter’s music instructor.” - Anthony, 5 Stars!

“Steven B is a wonderful teacher!  He is talented, always enthusiastic, and extremely motivational! Each lesson is designed specifically for our daughter Kelsey's ability and desired genre of music! Kelsey began guitar and vocal lessons in the Coronado studio and is now taking lessons via Skype since our move to Virginia.  The lessons are convenient, affordable, and productive. We are excited to be able to still have Steven B as her guitar and vocal teacher!” - Amy, 5 Stars!

“I came to Steven B as a beginner in piano and I took the piano lessons on my Casio keyboard. I just wanted to learn my favorite songs. Steven B got me into the music I really enjoy!  In only three months, I was able to play and sing a song I truly love titled “Angel” from Sarah McLachian.  My teacher said I performed it as well as the artist. My friends, loved my performance of the song!” - Katrina, 5 Stars!

“My son has taken guitar and voice lessons with Steven B for the last year.  We are pleased with classes and the improvement we've seen in comparison to a previous instructor.  Steven B is punctual and extremely respectful of the time and money it takes to provide lessons.  He can be counted on to be both friendly and professional.  He comes prepared for lessons and expects the same of his students.  If you are serious about learning and improving your skills, we highly recommend him.” - Christina, 5 Stars!

“My time in being instructed by Steven B on piano was a great, informative experience. Ever since the first lesson, he is a very good teacher that clearly knows what he is doing. Mr. B. taught me at my own pace, taking time to help me work on skills, especially small details that help me perform much better. He is a very skilled instructor, teaching me pieces from not only music books that he provides, but also the valuable skill of learning by ear, a skill few other teachers bother to touch on. Steven B has helped on a number of occasions with songs that I am learning on my own and fit time into our lessons to work on them. He is always willing to let the student work on what they like as well as what he gives out. When I once mentioned my liking for jazz, we soon started an in-depth series of lessons into the genre, teaching me much more than I ever knew prior to it. I’ve never felt pressured by my assignments and pieces to bring home, as Steven B knows everyone goes at their own pace and can take anytime from a few days to a few weeks to learn a song. My time with him was a very fun and informative time that I thoroughly enjoyed.” - Michael, 5 Stars!

Steven has been amazing!! I have little to no experience playing guitar, but I'm already getting the hang of playing well known songs! He does a great job of critiquing but also making the lesson fun! He tells me exactly what I need to do and the tools I need for the following lessons, so I always have a plan AND it's all in the comfort of my own home. I would highly recommend Steven, and if you're skeptical about taking an online lesson, don't be, because the attention Steven gives during lessons makes you feel like he's right there! Happy Strumming!

Making a piano lesson efficient and fun is what I can do best. With a Berklee College of Music degree I have had the pleasure of studying with some great musicians, which have helped me shape the way I play and teach. Interested in composing, ear training, improvisation, and music theory too? I have got you covered!

About Lorenzo
I'm a Berklee College of Music graduate with a degree in Film Scoring, I have over 15 years of piano experience; having played with some really great musicians! Being a full time composer, I will help you not only learn how to read and play music, I can teach how to write your own music, as well as play it!

In my opinion, playing piano is one of the most exhilarating instruments to play; it makes playing other instruments easier, it makes music theory easier to understand, the possibilities are just endless.

Niki is an outstanding piano teacher. She began teaching my daughter when she was 9 years old, and after 3 years of lessons, I am extremely pleased with how well my daughter plays the piano. Niki makes learning piano fun and interesting for children by allowing them to choose some of their own popular pieces. Her teaching style is the perfect balance of friendly and encouraging, yet very professional with an emphasis on progress. She sets high expectations and inspires her students through her own love of music. I would highly recommend Niki to any student fortunate enough to work with her.

I have been studying classical piano for over 20 years and recently got a bachelor degree in classical piano performance. The most important part of learning to play classical music is learning to sing and express yourself through the music, so musicality is a constant aspect in the lessons. Besides teaching classical repertoire, I also incorporate scales, music theory, music history and sight-reading so students get a well-rounded musical education.

About Monica
Hi, I’m Monica! I am really passionate about playing and teaching the piano! I have been playing and performing piano for 23 years and teaching for 10 years. I have a BM in Piano Performance from California State University, Northridge (rated among the top 25 music programs in the US by Hollywood Reporter), I have been granted 7 scholarships and music awards, and I am member of multiple music teacher associations that allow me to register students in regional assessments and competitions. I enjoy making lessons both fun and enlightening and I aim for students to fall in love with their practice.

Piano has so many challenges for beginners so I emphasize the basics early. A student wants to be able to continue advancing independently and needs to have a proper foundation of theory in order to do that.
Students may have talents in playing by ear and may have interest in making their own compositions, I am a teacher who will encourage these ambitions. Not forgetting, again, to continue pressing the study of theory.
Knowing how to hone in on a student's learning style has helped me keep individuals moving forward and keep the instruction exciting!
I love music and just want others to get to express themselves and find the joy in it that I do.

About Sharon
Music has been a central pulse to my entire life. I started taking piano lessons at age 5 and picked up the clarinet in elementary school. By the end of middle school I was writing songs on the piano and guitar and trying to get anyone I knew to play in a band with me.
In High School I finally did manage to play in a band that would play shows in the Greater Rochester Area in New York State. Once I hit age 18, I packed my bags and moved to San Diego where I continued working on my craft and started my new life.
I never stopped playing music, writing songs, and trying to find people to collaborate with. By the time I started my career as a hairstylist, I knew that I had to share my love and passion for music with others and endeavored to build a student schedule.
My first students, as an adult, were my future in-laws. Mother, father and si
ster in-law learned piano, guitar and music theory with me. My late father in-law had a left leg amputation and was blind. We taped rice on the back of the guitar neck so he would have a tactile reference to his frets. It felt so good to bring a dream of his to life and to prove to naysayers that anyone can play, even if the challenges are far greater than average.
Within a year, I had enough referrals to fill 2 days of the week with students. I have held 3 recitals and plan on having a holiday recital this year.
I will never stop sharing music with others and look forward to meeting any new students granted via this platform.

4+ years experience in teaching beginner and intermediate piano students. I value helping to nurture a student’s love of learning and music above everything else. Lessons are customized to the goals of each student. Not only will you be playing your favorite songs, but you will be building a strong foundation for sight reading, technique, and expression.

Along with technical knowledge, I will help better equip the student to perform publicly - from performing in recitals to casually playing for family get-togethers - to encourage the student to inspire others with their music.

For Classical Piano, we will start with the basics and build up to lessons that look like the following:

1. Warm up
2. Scales
3. Hanon or Czerny (for intermediate students)
4. Review and evaluate previous lesson piece
4. Play, break apart, and reconstruct lesson piece
5. Play, break apart, and reconstruct recital piece

About Marie-Louise
I offer tutoring mainly in piano, middle and high school traditional and common core math, drawing, painting, Japanese 101, Spanish 101, guitar, and voice. I can also tutor in general subjects and revise and edit essays, as needed. Although I find grades important as concrete results will give them mobility in their education, I value helping to nurture a student’s love of learning above everything else.

For those looking to begin playing the ukulele, guitar, or voice, I teach proper postures and hand positions, vocal techniques and exercises, basic chords and strumming patterns, and playing popular songs that are easy to learn on the ukulele and guitar!

For those with a competitive spirit even in their hobbies, I teach strategies to win Monopoly, Catan, and Exploding Kittens, and optimizing mundane tasks on vanilla Minecraft.

I
can teach from my home, the student's home, or a studio the student may already have access to. If the student is looking to travel to me, they will have immediate access to a baby grand piano, an art studio, board games, internet that goes up to 1000 Mbps, the occasional company of two cats, capri sun or water, and my collection of sheet music.

My name is Aku and I have experience teaching kids as young as age 4. I am passionate about piano, as well as being passionate about teaching piano. This is the best job I have had, and I enjoy helping my students grow in their love of music. In my lessons I strive for a balance of structure and fun, with the aim of creating a well- rounded musician.

My son (age 7) started taking lessons with Aku this past year and I couldn’t be happier! Aku is a sweet gal who is great with kids and I love that we are able to do lessons in her home. And I love that Aku listened to what my son likes best and tailored his lessons and homework to his individual preferences. He enjoys his lessons and is truly learning a love of piano.
