Joe is a fun, professional and talented teacher! He gave me advice and etudes that really helped me play interesting breaks at gigs. Have your questions and goals ready to tell him, and he will give you exactly what you need to sound better. He is very intuitive and understanding, and he will use every minute of your time efficiently with practical exercises that work. He was also very responsible, dependable, easy to reach and punctual. Experienced teacher of 30 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages. I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical skills. I specialize in classical music and provide multiple playing opportunities for my students throughout the year.

About Angela
EDUCATION

My musical education began while sitting on my mother's lap as she taught piano lessons. I began studying cello with a member of the Kansas City Philharmonic at age 9, and at age ten, I followed in my mother's footsteps to play the flute. I played all three instruments, (piano, cello and flute) until high school when it was became clear to me that I wanted to be an orchestra teacher. With this dream in mind, I began playing the violin as well.
I graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor's in Music Education in 1989 and again in 1999 with a Master's degree.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE

As a youngster, I was the youngest member of the Kansas City Youth Symphony and the Kansas City Cello Choir performing with these two groups for eight years. I was chosen from applicants nation wide, to perform in Carnegie Hall and trav
el Europe with "America's Youth in Concert" and I was a three time All-Stater.

While attending Drake University, I played in the Drake University Orchestra and the Des Moines Symphony, and I was the winner of the Young Artist Competition awarding me the honor as featured soloist with the Drake Symphony Orchestra.
In 1993 I began playing with the Encore String Trio. This trio plays on a regular basis for weddings and receptions.
I currently play cello in the Encore String Trio, and viola in the Long Beach Community Orchestra.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience includes nearly 30 years of private teaching. I've had the pleasure of teaching all areas of music; elementary general music, band, choir and orchestra. During my 20 years of teaching orchestra in the public schools, I implemented many innovative opportunities for my students such as children's concert which drew more than 700 people in attendance, strolling strings, cello choir and a viola choir, all of which proved to be very motivational for the students. My goal of teaching is to make music fun for all.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe music should be fun. I provide you with several playing opportunities throughout the year, ranging from solo to group playing. I provide large group playing opportunities at Christmas and at the recitals. Every group playing opportunity is accompanied with food and games for all. This studio is FUN!

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are studying for recitals, competitions, a music career or just for fun, you can expect equal attention to technique and musicianship in your lessons.
Lessons will be tailored to each students needs which may include flash cards, supplemental materials, ear training, sight reading, technical studies, scales, and solo work.
You are never to old to learn to play an instrument. Over half of my students are adult beginners. Because of this, I provide group playing opportunities and I organize a solo ensemble contest for my students. This gives opportunities to the adult beginners that they missed out on as a child. You will have a lesson by yourself, monthly mini recitals in my studio, and you will have the opportunity to play orchestra music as a group all right here in my studio. You are guaranteed to learn how to play your instrument, have fun and gain great friendships here in this studio. I'm looking forward to introducing you to our studio family.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The teachers studio is in a large room with multiple windows for natural light. The room includes instruments and stands in the middle of the room.

*** Specialties ***
I use the Suzuki method books. I am a classical player and I teach classical music.

About Yuiko Grace
I recently graduated from the Master’s Program at the Manhattan School of Music with a degree in Violin Classical Performance. Teaching and performance have been life long passions. Music is a universal language transcending all forms of communication. Giving someone the opportunity to learn about music is one of the greatest gifts.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Boston University in Music Performance where I also taught and led the second violin section of the Boston University All Campus Orchestra. The orchestra consisted of non-music major students ranging from undergraduate to doctorate. I assisted the conductor and was responsible for the preparation and proficiency of the violin section.

I was part of the outreach program at the Manhattan School of Music where I taught group violin classes at the Children’s Zone Promi
se Academy Charter School in Harlem once a week. I prepared lesson material and arranged classical and pop music for the group class. The students who came were from family backgrounds of violence and were able to find peace in music. The disruptive students who would find themselves in the principal’s office would come to the weekly lesson begging to play Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” or “Frère Jacques” in canon form.

In Japan, I taught private lessons to middle school students. I created lesson binders and handouts for my students. The binders were a compilation of etudes and exercises that I had consistently used with my students alongside with exercises I had composed. I have also used Suzuki material and intermediate concertos for solo repertoire.

In 2012, I became a member of the conductor-less string ensemble called Shattered Glass. The ensemble was created by Manhattan School of Music students who were dedicated to re-imagining the concert experience and bringing classical music to all audiences. In February 2013, Shattered Glass did a three-day intensive educational outreach in Cinnaminson, NJ where we taught group classes at the public schools to students ranging from elementary to High school students. In addition, Shattered Glass played a Benefit Concert for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

These experiences have helped refine my skills in teaching students of all age groups, organizing and planning lessons appropriate to the level and capacity of the student, and sharing the love and gift of music through teaching.

I hope to have the opportunity to work with you!

Music is her life and passion!

*** Lesson Details ***
Music is the greatest gift of all! It is important to me that the student wants to take violin lessons and that the parent is supportive and committed to the student's musical development. Most of all, it is important that we have fun making music!

For beginner level, I provide 30 minute lessons once a week. Within 3 months, the student will be able to read music and play songs on the violin. I create my own material for beginners and use Suzuki Volume 1 for solo repertoire.

For intermediate level, I provide 30-60 minute lessons once a week. Within 3 months, the student will be able to play all major and minor scales, fluently read music, and play short pieces on the violin. I arrange and provide favorite pop tunes and use Preparatory Etude Books and Suzuki Books for solo repertoire.

For advanced level, I provide 60 minute lessons once a week. Within 3 months, the student will be able to sight read, understand basic music theory, play all major and minor scales/ arpeggios/ double stops, and play big works including concertos. I will choose repertoire based on each student.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have a violin, bow, shoulder rest or sponge and music. I will provide the music from time to time depending on repertoire

Recently graduated from Juilliard, I've been teaching violin and viola for five years, and welcome students of all levels and ages. My background is firmly classical, but additionally I also love fiddle music and give students songs from many genres to learn, arranging upon request. I'm currently a doctoral student at USC, and I work part-time locally as a violinist in the YMF Debut Orchestra. I am also glad to help students with recording, video editing and social media.

About Alexander
As a violin teacher, I always aim to set goals for students, to guide students towards them, and to be direct as possible so far as is appropriate. I also try to stay results-oriented throughout the process. Even if not all of a student’s progress is directly attributable to me, the most important thing was that he improve. I teach from the personal perspective of a traditional, technically founded approach to classical music, but I also love to arrange simple songs from any genre for each student, chosen by me or upon request. On the side, I enjoy playing fiddle music with my family and friends.
As a math and standardized test tutor, I strive to stay results-oriented and based around the student's needs. In past experience as a tutor in college, where I was an undergraduate math major, I would often see shortcuts to problems that to me
were simpler than the methods taught in class, but I became acutely aware of the need to approach learning from students' point of view in addition to my own. Putting students first calls me to help them directly with their needs and to meet them where they are.

I really appreciated Alexander teaching me violin. He was basically my first instructor and he was always patient and motivating. He accommodated my unique needs as an adult beginner and brought me far in a short time. He was a little challenged to balance teaching with his heavy school load, but I appreciated his willingness to take the time to teach and help others.

INSTRUMENTAL INSTRUCTION FOR THE BEGINNING MUSICIAN
Music instruction tailored for the individual student

Does your student love music and want to learn to play an instrument? I can help them. My professional career encompasses more than 35 years of elementary level music instruction. I have successfully launched hundreds of students into a growing love of music and a working knowledge of the fundamentals of music and instrumental technique.

Learning music should be fun. Whether your child wants to learn the violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet or trombone, I can help. I will develop a curriculum that matches his or her desires, strengths and individual learning style. And we will have fun along the way.

Contact me today to get your child started on the road to musical success.
Mr. Gary Halverson

About Gary
I have been serving the young people of my community for the last 36+ years as an elementary level music teacher. I graduated from Cal State University Fullerton with a BA in Music Education and a K-12 teaching credential in music. I have taught a wide range of music classes including general music, choir, recorder, group guitar, the Mind Institute (piano), and all the orchestra and band instruments: strings, brass and woodwinds. My classroom experience includes early childhood (K-5th grade), english learners and special needs students.

I enjoy working with students who have no musical knowledge or experience and bringing them to a level of proficiency where they can be confident performers on their chosen instrument. Some of my students have continued their music education through college and others have brought their love of music into
their careers as adults.

I realize that I not only teach music, but I teach individuals. So I tailor and fit my music instruction to the unique aptitudes and needs of each child. I want to communicate the fun of creating music as well as the technical aspects of playing an instrument. You can expect your student to gain a solid foundation in the fundamentals of music and instrumental technique. At this time I am offering private music lessons for these instruments: violin, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone. I can also assist/advise parents in choosing a serviceable instrument for their student to rent or own. This has been a real help to several parents and families over the years. Contact me for more information. I’d love to be of help.
