The instructor was very professional and extremely well prepared. She tutored me for the GRE exam for about five months, and I can honestly say that my preparation was boosted by her great teaching skills as well as careful lesson planning. The sessions were planned in detail in order to work on all of the three sections of the test, paying particular attention to those topics that needed extra practice first. Weekly material was brought to class, and homework were regularly assigned and checked. The tutor was reliable and could be reached by email during the week for any questions and/or clarifications regarding the course work. Would recommend to anyone.

Great with kids

My 10-year-old daughter has studied with Kate for several months now, and we both adore her. Not only is Kate extremely knowledgeable about many aspects of singing and performing, but she knows how to impart that knowledge to a young student in a way that is both effective and fun. Brava!

About Laura
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, and a Master's Degree in Secondary Science Education-Biology. I am certified in the state of Florida. The first lesson will consist of diagnostics so that I can better tailor my teaching to your child. For my reading students I assist with phonics and comprehension. I use high interest text selections to ensure that the child will actually enjoy what they are reading, in addition to improving their skills. Students who require math instruction, I like to revisit prerequisites. I find that mistakes are made in the lower levels of math, which makes learning math at the higher levels more difficult. If children need science instruction, I can help with re-teaching the material and clarifying any confusing or complicated concepts to ensure the material is clear and easily understood. My met
hods for language arts and history are similar to science.

I've had 3 classes with Kelly and they've been great. Her method is fun, engaging and I look forward to continuing. I've tried several self-study options without success, whereas Kelly's teaching methods keep me engaged. She uses techniques I didn't know existed and I'm not just memorizing pages of words. As an adult learner, I have finally found a great option to learn Spanish.

Test Preparation Help

About Zaky
Hi, my name is Zak! Music is a beautiful thing. It has the so much power. It can be used to send a message, move and inspire people. Music can impact emotions, it is a beautiful and powerful thing!

Music, and teaching have always been a big passion in my life. The ability to take knowledge of a subject that you have, and show, share, and shape someone and pass on that knowledge to them. It is an amazing feeling. I am a passionate, and caring instructor. My teaching style is encouraging, motivating, and educational. I fully believe that you can do anything you set your mind to, and I use that by showing my students that I believe in them.

I use a curriculum that was taught to me, and has been used in schools and universities. This curriculum fits all age groups and skill levels. Starting with Rock, moving to Funk, ending with Jazz.
When drumming playing with music, learning improvisation, and playing by ear is important. I also focus on this, having students learn their favorite songs, and learn to play with new music as well. This keeps students interested, and adds a fun personal element to their lessons. I also have implemented use of a teaching app, so while practicing if students have a question they can ask me right then so to not forget, and I can give feedback. It also has a practice tracker tool. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

I look forward to meeting you, and helping you reach your music goals!

Zaky is great with my son who has a history of brain injury which causes him to have short term memory problems. In just a few weeks he has much more confidence in himself and is even a slight bit ahead in band class. He is now able to help some of the other students which he loves. There are very few things that at school that don't overwhelm him, and Zaky has helped him find success in music.

Need better scores? Or just help with homework? Contact me!

To help you reach your personal academic goals, (whether it be pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trig, pre-Calculus or Calculus, SAT, and/or the ACT test preparation, or may be GRE preparation for an older audience) I will find your weak topics and help you understand it fully. For that, I analyze your previous work and we discuss what you did and why. I will help you to see the logic in the solution and understand the relationship between concepts. Between sessions, I will happily answer short questions off the clock by email, or Skype.

For the SAT/ACT test takers my plan is usually for a student to take the practice test at home or school, then grade it and come back to me with the results. We will diagnose your problems (as in “didn’t have enough time”, “don’t know how to approach a problem like this”, “didn’t read the problem carefully”, “made a calculation error”, “didn’t know the definition” and so on) and work ...

Students take a diagnostic exam to determine strengths, weaknesses; brief interviews also occur. Afterward, personalized strategies are developed based on abilities, needs, goals, budget, schedule, learning styles, and interests.

About Kenisha
Focusing on your different learning modalities, goals, abilities, and interests helps me boost your confidence, which helps you achieve their academic goals. My tutoring and test prep students become optimally prepared for tests. Knowing tricky grammatical and mechanical principles or determining probabilities may not be necessary in communicating basic ideas, but that knowledge makes a big difference in your class placements, and it makes an even bigger difference when competing for college placements and scholarships. Show me a rightly placed preposition, and I'll show you the money.

While I love a good challenge, it's still heartbreaking to be approached by students (or parents of students) who earn A's and B's at school, but can't earn 850 on the SAT, or who take an ESL course, but can't (or are afraid) to speak English (when nece
ssary to meet a goal). There are goals and standards to be met, and I do whatever I can to help you meet or exceed them.

To help personalize your experiences and ensure relevance of sessions:
1. Written and oral assessments are used to gauge your strengths and weaknesses.
2. Periodic quizzes are administered; their regularity depends on the how often you meet with me.
3. Exit exams are administered at the end of your programs.

All I ask is that you are ready to:
1. Shift your priorities, and invest adequate time and energy into getting the results you really want.
2. Be on time.
3. Openly communicate your needs, pleasures, and nots.
4. Understand that while you may notice improvements as early as the first session, total success will take time.

I have a degree in English (with special emphasis on secondary education), and an ESL certification. My 10+ years in the educational arena, and ongoing professional development, have taught me the importance of helping students shift from lower- to higher-order thinking, which is really only coaching you to learn to want to think about the synergy of things, before deciding and acting on them. Primarily, I teach English and language arts at the secondary and post-secondary levels (i.e., middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults), but I have a knack for teaching math and algebra, so I offer lessons in those areas, as well. Prepping students for standardized tests -- GRE, SAT, ACT, HSPT, CBEST, CSET: English -- is a love a mine, too.

Whether for summer or winter enrichment, test prep, help with the naturalization exam, or just a general safety net, be sure to contact me, and we can determine how to work together to create the results you or your child need.

Peace and best,
Kenisha

P.S., Be sure to bring all of who you are to your sessions. Creased, crumpled, crimped, or saggy: I don't care. Just be ready to do better.

Ms. Kenisha was amazing with my son. Being high level functioning but on the autism spectrum, Ms. Kenisha made my son comfortable in an unfamiliar environment, and tailored a learning curriculum that fit his physical and comprehensive needs. His SAT scores increased significantly from his first attempt because of this one on one tutoring. Ms. Kenisha was timely to our sessions, flexible when we had to change a day at the last minute, and the cost was worth the outcome so much so, we added extra sessions. Ms. Kenisha has a calm and patient disposition, is knowledgeable, and she knows how to engage the student. I would highly recommend Ms. Kenisha and her services.

As a college student myself, I definitely understand the stress, anxiety, and frustration that goes into preparing for an exam. I've worked with first year college students and elementary students on overcoming that anxiety to improve confidence and preparedness. Students can expect validation with their testing struggles, a reflective conversation in regards to what they're already doing and how each strategy works for them, and suggestions on how to prepare more efficiently for their tests.

About Sara
Hi! My name is Sara and I'm a college student attending Brigham Young University in Provo. I love learning and getting to experience lots of different things! My favorite things are people and music, and for that reason I am currently studying as a sociology major with the intent to work in nonprofit helping children after I graduate! I currently work at BYU as a Peer Mentor where I meet one-on-one with first year college students to assist them in developing time management skills, effective study strategies, and test-prep skills. I worked at a daycare for a year where I ran a homework club for the elementary school students enrolled in the daycare. I've also assisted in creating and carrying out a homeschool curriculum for my 4 special needs siblings over the last few years. I have had lots of opportunities to work with youth while I've
been in various leadership positions and, like I mentioned before, I love people! And I'm excited to get to know each of you!
