After honing his craft as a songwriter and performer, Jeff created and taught music classes at colleges, universities, and music schools throughout the country for many years, including UCLA Extension, Santa Monica College, Pasadena City College and The Harrison School Of Music. Jeff is currently teaching ukulele classes and songwriting classes at Tacoma Community College and Pierce College, both in Washington state.

As a working singer/songwriter/guitarist, Jeff is known for his memorable melodies, intelligently crafted lyrics and heartfelt vocals. His compositions have earned him over 50 awards from various national and international songwriting contests and he's a former staff songwriter for the long-standing New York City-based publisher, Bourne Music. He has also won best music video awards at 3 international film festivals.
Some of the artists that Jeff has been compared to as a guitarist and vocalist include Keb' Mo', James Taylor, Kenny Loggins, Ry Cooder, John Mayer, Bill Withers, Jim Croce, and Don Henley.
Jeff is a NJ native, but lived and performed in Los Angeles for many years, where he worked in the studio or shared the stage with well-known artists such as Dave Koz, Norman Brown, John Daversa, Hiroshima, Little Richard and N'Dea Davenport.
Jeff catalog of over 450 songs and compositions spans virtually every genre, but many of his tunes are amalgams of pop, blues, jazz, R&B, country and rock. Quite a number of Jeff's songs have appeared in film and TV. One that Jeff is particularly proud of, is the dynamic pop ballad, "Journey Of The Heart" (co-written by Jeanne Smith), which was licensed by the N.C.A.A. (National Collegiate Athletic Association), who deemed it "the official anthem" of their NCAA Hall Of Champions facility in Indianapolis.
Jeff has commercially released 4 CD's of his original material: The most recent of these is his 2013 release, "Blujanova" (a merging of blues, jazz and bossa nova), which was praised by platinum selling and Grammy-nominated jazz star, Dave Koz: "Jeff's voice is so clean and pure...the production is lovely...warm and inviting...I love the interesting and surprising takes on some classics too, especially 'I Feel Good'…that brought a smile to my face!". The other CD's stretch into other genres. "Truthteller" (bluesy pop/rock and singer/songwriter material) "Me, Myself, and I" (acoustic) and "The Spin" (pop, rock, and country-tinged singer/songwriter material). All of Jeff's albums are on his label, Relevant Records. The late great John Braheny, author of the best-selling "The Craft And Business Of Songwriting (Writer's Digest Books), gave high praise to Jeff's CD, "The Spin", calling it "honest, crafty, melodic and the songs are all exceptional". Patch called Jeff "a consummate songwriter".
*** Lesson Details *** At the first lesson, I will ask you to tell me what songs you want to play and artists you want to play like and I will set the table for that by providing the chords you'll need, chord and scales and exercises to enable you to play them and guidelines and tricks on how to make it happen as quickly as possible. I know a wide variety of songs in all styles and styles, including current hit songs as well as pop, rock, blues, jazz, country songs. if you have a song or artist that I don't know already, I will learn it (often on the spot) and if not right then, at the next lesson. I have taught my students to play songs by artists as varied as Taylor Swift, U2, Jason Mraz, Adele, Eric Clapton, Django Reinhardt, Doc Watson. And that's just naming a few.
I always make it clear to my students at the first lesson: "There is no such thing as a stupid question". I want you to feel comfortable to stop me at any time to clarify what I am teaching you, ESPECIALLY if it is too difficult or vague. I pride myself on always being organized for your lesson and making sure that you grasp whatever it is I am teaching you. The goal is to get you to be able to play what you want as quickly as possible. This will take practice and dedication on your part, but I will do everything in my power to help you get there.
I never force anything on any of my students. but I feel it would be beneficial for you to learn to read music OR read tablature and chord diagrams. You tell me which one and we'll go in that direction. If you'd like to read music, then we can decide on a book for you. I have used Hal Leonard instructional books (with CD's! this way you can play with a backing track and get a sense of rhythm, which is very important), but I'm open to other method books you might have or like.
After 3 to 6 months, you will feel you are significantly more skilled on the guitar than you were before we started lessons. You will know more chords (and move from chord to chord), be able to do at least some basic fingerpicking and be able to read some music or tablature.

Recording on Garageband. I became so skilled with Garageband that I was asked to give seminars at Apple Store locations, showcasing my recordings and how to use the program.
I assist brand new learners as well as those who have considerable experience. From first introduction to the instrument through creating and composing you own score, you'll be well served. I've written my own syllabus after 25 plus years of experience.

Goals: Since I am also a Life Coach, we really focus on how to accomplish our hopes and desires. We begin by weekly, then monthly and even a yearly goal.
Each week we also focus on something in my STUDENT PAL - mnemonic. Another is TECHNIQUE. Technique is the ability to have proper position, wrist-lifts and finger curve as well as Theoretic knowledge and application.
I started giving out lickable gold stars, you know, the old-fashioned kind? They are for those students who mark their lesson sheet and come prepared... They really seem to enjoy that, and I adore the nostalgia!
It is a great week when students are nearly all prepared and ready for their lessons. This makes both Coach and student more effective and the time together more enjoyable.

Music has blessed my life in countless ways and given me opportunities I'd never dreamed of. Teaching at the Young Artists Conservatory of Music; Singing in Carnegie Hall, Performing across Europe and teaching the best students for over 25 years has been a delight.
I believe strongly that those who spend their time and resources for musical education are some of the brightest and most intelligent people around. Each of my students have their own individual goals and reasons for taking music lessons, which we revisit monthly. I believe that my role is to be a support and tool for them/you to accomplish the goals set, working with music that delights and educates.
You want the best teacher, who offers information, example, practice and performance opportunities and then gets out of the way of the student's own "voice" (whether playing or singing) so that they can be free to create their own style.

I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played
in numerous pit orchestras for musicals. I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed repeatedly with the Yuba College jazz band and at churches all around. I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College. Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and meter), and am currently teaching this curriculum. I have been teaching music privately for over ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 7 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for both preschool and school age, as I am a site supervisor at a child development center with a preschool and after school program. I have had many adult students as well and encourage adults to enrich their lives with music at any age! Additionally, I have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student. *** Lesson Details *** I have been teaching since 2002 and have loved every minute of it! I teach all ages. I tailor my style of teaching to each student's goals and to what works for you. If you want to learn Taylor Swift music, I won't be giving you arias. On the other hand, if you wish to study classically, I have repertoire appropriate for you. I teach fiddle, classical, orchestral, 20th century and more for violin students and have experience with jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, religious, spiritual, choral, 20th century and more vocally. For violin students, I use the Suzuki method as a pushing off point, a tried and true method used in many countries across the world, though I have other repertoire including fiddle, orchestra, small ensemble, solo, concertos, Christmas, and more. For vocalist, I start with the book, Adventures in Singing. I also have warm ups and exercises to keep you vocally healthy. I will teach you anything you want to learn! I also teach how to read music, theory and harmony, depending on your interest and tailored to your current skill level. I am encouraging and knowledgeable. I will meet you at your current level, be that beginner, intermediate, or advanced. My students can look forward to being encouraged and growing through their time with me. I don't have preset ideas about where you should be in 3-6 months, nor do I have a one size fits all teaching style. Instead, I will work with you individually so that you will become the best musician you can be, meet your goals, and increase your enjoyment and appreciation for music.

Kim can teach you or your child, no matter where you are!
I was 30 when I decided to rekindle my love for the violin. I hadn’t played since before YouTube was invented, and I was skeptical about learning violin online. By the first lesson, Kim had already corrected poor habits I didn’t know I had, just after hearing me play a few scales. She adjusted her teaching style to my personality so seamlessly that I felt I was just getting pointers from a dear violinist friend whose advice is always spot-on. Weekly practice never felt like work, because Kim tailored my assignments to my goals. Before I knew it, I was playing complex concertos I could never do in high school. I started out being able to play just one major scale. Within 10 months, I was in Suzuki Book 4!
I can’t say enough about Kim’s expert teaching skills. During a sight-reading of a very difficult piece, I became so frustrated that I wanted to stop the lesson and try again later. Kim encouraged me until I had gotten all the way through, and pointed out what I could learn from my performance. When I had time to calm down, I realized that Kim can do this for any student; adults, children, and adults whose inner child throws a tantrum when they’re frustrated by a musical challenge. :-)
Teachers like Kim are rare, and worth their weight in gold. I learned so much more than violin fundamentals through my lessons with her. I’m convinced Kim can teach anyone, of any age—even through an online platform.

David discovered his love for music early on at the age of seven with the musical/movie: The Sound of Music. He and his siblings would entertain their babysitter by acting out the entire musical - singing and dancing along with the soundtrack. To make it even more fun, they would sometimes speed up the vinyl record and perform in extra-fast mode!
He vividly remembers his first real musical instruction back in elementary school: “Everyone in 4th Grade was given a Recorder to learn how to play 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star'. When the music teacher had the class play together, she noticed that I wasn't looking down at my music booklet as I played, since I was 'playing by ear'. Not only was my booklet turned to the wrong page; it was upside down as well! To admonish me, she had me stand up in front of the whole class and play
solo - as she held the booklet in front of me. Enthusiastically, I rendered the complete song correctly, only pretending to read from the page as she held it, but actually 'playing by ear'. Upon getting to the end of the tune, I suddenly broke out in a jazzed-up, improvised version of 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star', arousing the whole class to spontaneously tap their feet in rhythm and clap with delight . . . my first solo performance!”
David eventually took up guitar in his teens, becoming involved with playing for musicals such as "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar". During high school, he also played in the Bluegrass band 'Odell & Zeke', and in the Rock band 'Ring Wraith', performing for local dances and proms.
Extremely versatile within classical and popular guitar styles, David played in the Top-40-Hit music video, Shine Shine, by The Bee Gees' Barry Gibb – alongside pop-star legend - Michael Jackson. David is also mentioned in Just Jazz Guitar Magazine for his jazz endeavors; and he has years of experience as a church music director.
As a Classical concert guitarist, David has performed throughout the USA and Europe. His live performances have been broadcast on television and radio: NPR’s Performance Today (USA); CBC’s Arts National (Canada); RAI Television’s In Concerto (Italy), and the Hungarian National Television. Successful in competitions, David won First Prize in the 20th International Guitar Competition in Milan, Italy and First Prize in the National Wurlitzer Artist Competition, USA. Hillary C. has been singing since joining the Sunrise Singers in elementary school. While singing in various choral groups, she also took private lessons to develop proper vocal technique. Her own students will appreciate the classical training she received as well as musical theater styles she has learned over the years.
At Washington and Lee University, Hillary participated in University Chorus, Chamber Singers, an a cappella group, and performed in musicals on stage. She studied music history, performance, and theory. Hillary earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Vocal Production and received the Choral Award upon graduation. She has performed with the St. Louis Symphony Chorus, Dallas Symphony Chorus, and Incarnation church choir.
Hillary also studied piano for seven years during which time she won theory awards and was the star
pupil of her studio. She recently began a piano pedagogy class for continuing education credit.

Her knowledge of the instrument and expert instruction (as well as her infinite patience!) continue to provide me with the motivation I've needed to overcome some of the challenges I've faced after being away from my instrument for so long. Her teaching style is relaxed and flexible but firm; she knows just when I need to be challenged and just when to back away a bit. She's been a great fit for me, and I encourage other flute players of all levels to giver her a try!

Dr. Sue Sheya is truly an exceptional instructor. As a student who studied a little bit of music in Europe, it was difficult for me to adjust to the American solfege system (C, D, E scale) as I was used to the European solfege (Do, Re, Mi). However, Dr. Sheya was very flexible and adjusted all her lesson materials so that I could truly succeed in learning. I highly recommend her for anyone looking for a supportive, friendly, and enthusiastic teacher that can truly guide them in learning how to play the flute!

As a piano and voice instructor, I have taught individual lessons for the past 13 years to students from 5 to 85, beginners to advanced students. I hold Master of Fine Arts degrees in both Collaborative Piano Performance and Vocal Performance from Notre Dame de Namur University. In addition to my private students, I am the vocal coach and accompanist for the Sacramento City College Music Department, Choral Academy Coordinator and accompanist for the Sacramento Children's Chorus, and accompanist for Light Opera Theatre of Sacramento. I also am co-founder and artistic director of the Empire Arts Collective Pop Choir.
Lessons are taught at the Sacramento Preparatory Music Academy. Please note that while piano lessons are offered for students as young as 5, voice lessons are not offered until students are at least 13.
