Patrick was very good at explaining what exactly is going on when I am singing. This was helpful in visualizing and addressing the areas I needed to improve.

Joshua Leu (Singing lessons with Patrick K.)

Patrick is a great teacher, and very patient. I've never learned how to sing or read music before, and he teaches at a pace that's good for me. I highly recommend him whether you're an adult or you'

Get Singing Lessons in Orange County!

By Adri-Anne R. – Orange Singing Teacher

You've taken voice lessons, you're feeling good about your singing, and you have some songs you can really knock out of the park... so what's next?

After months (or sometimes years!) of hard work, many of my students end up asking me this question. Depending on your goals, once you have some great vocal technique and some songs ready to perform, there are many performance opportunities for students taking singing lessons in Orange County!

Here are my Top 5 suggestions for the aspiring pop-stars to the hobby singers.

  1. Community Theater: This one's not for everyone, but if you love putting on an energetic show in front of an audience, singing with others, and have some power and range to your voice, community theater is a fun way to perform, meet people, and get yourself out there! There are always opportunities for more visible roles (lead players) and for those who just want to get their feet wet (ensemble cast).

Some great places to start out are Stages Theater, (http://www.stagesoc.org/), The Maverick Theater (http://www.mavericktheater.com/), Musical Theater Orange County (http://mtoc.org/), and The Attic Community Theater (http://ocact.com/).

  1. Open Mics: Have you heard of open mic nights? Most often hosted in coffee shops or restaurants, a host will take a list of musicians who want to perform original or cover songs (usually only 1-2 songs per musician), and then call them up to perform! This is a great way to meet other musicians & songwriters, and one of my favorite ways for new artists to get comfortable in front of an audience. A few places around Orange County with open mics are The Gypsy Den (in Santa Ana only), Viento Y Agua (Long Beach), Max Bloom's Cafe Noir (Fullerton), and The Ugly Mug Cafe (Orange). Make sure you can either accompany yourself or bring someone who can!

  2. Choirs: If you love singing in a chorus of voices but aren't ready for the spotlight, a choir may be the choice for you! There are several youth choirs in Orange County, including The Young Singers of Orange County (http://www.youngsingersoc.org/) and the Southern California Children's Chorus (http://www.sccchorus.org/). For adults, there are even more, including the OC Millennial Choirs and Orchestras (http://www.millennial.org/orange-county/), The Orange Community Master Chorale (http://www.orangecommunitymasterchorale.org/), The OC Women's Chorus (http://www.ocwomenschorus.org/), and the Yorba Linda Gospel Ensemble (https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Yorba-Linda-Gospel-Ensemble/1499197370317418). Being able to be on key and blend voices with others is a must!

  3. A Capella or Show Vocal Ensembles: Made popular by shows like "The Sing-Off", and "Glee", singing a capella is back in vogue. There are plenty of established vocal ensembles that sometimes search for new members, but you can also start your own group if you know some singers looking to harmonize! Some a capella vocal groups in Orange County include Vibe, Frequency (http://www.vocalfreqs.com/), The Mission Viejo Chorus Sweet Adelines (http://www.mvsweetadelines.org/join.aspx), or check out the Contemporary A Capella Society (http://www.casa.org/). Good pitch, good tone, blending, and projection is a must!

  4. Night Markets, Farmers Markets & Art Walks: If you're a singer/songwriter or have a small group who accompanies you, getting a spot performing at a Night Market, Farmer's Market, or an Art Walk is the perfect place to start and get some exposure. Nowadays it seems like every city has a Farmers Market or two and an Art Walk. More and more cities in Orange County are also starting to host Night Markets. Contact the organizers to find out how to get booked for a performance slot. Some great starts are Downtown Fullerton Art Walk (http://www.fullertonartwalk.com/), The Santa Ana Art Walk (http://www.downtown-santaana.com/), The Laguna Beach Sawdust Art Festival (http://www.sawdustartfestival.org/), The OC Night Market (http://www.ocnightmarket.com/performer-signup/), and the Downtown Anaheim Farmer's Market (http://www.downtownanaheim.com/Home/farmersmarket).

Still not sure where to start, or think you may like some practice? Sign up for singing lessons in Orange County today! All the best getting yourself out there and sharing your voice with the world!
