Having performed in musical In musical theater professionally and having a son who has had principal roles in Broadway musicals for 22 years, I am well aware of all the elements necessary to develop and produce a voice for Broadway singing. I was trained as a classical and opera singer, which gave me the ability to project my voice while dancing and moving on stage. I work with students to develop good breath control with diaphragmatic breathing. I encourage the learning of sight reading . . . especially valuable When auditioning.

About Patricia
As a child I watched from the doorway as my older sister took her piano lessons. From that experience I taught myself to play the piano. My formal training came in college where I received my BA in Applied Music in piano and voice. I studied classical music and opera from a visiting professor from Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore MD. I graduated with honors and gave my Town Hall performance in the Spring of my Senior year. I had a passionate desire to be involved in music, to hear it and to perform it. I spent several years singing with the San Diego Opera Company, performing lead roles in Musical Theater and soloing in concerts from Monterrey to San Diego, CA. While still a student in college, I taught piano to children from the local community, so I have accumulated decades of teaching experience. Nothing brings me greater pleasure than
to see individuals "blossom" into their creative selves. Whether it is for a student's own enjoyment, audition preparation, recital performance or ongoing piano or voice development, I am committed to engaging you in an experience of learning and fun. It may be the biggest thrill of your lifetime!

i recently came out of an audition and I sang my musical pieces better than I've ever done them before! The auditioner sat me down at the end and said he loves my voice. He said, based on how much he liked my pieces and how well I did that he would like to extend an early invitation for callbacks for the program! I really have Patricia to thank for that. She has helped me improve my voice by leaps and bounds in the time that i have been working with her and its amazing to get such immediate and rewarding results. I CAN NOT THANK PATRICIA ENOUGH! SHE COULD NOT HAVE PREPARED ME ANY BETTER AND IM SO GRATEFUL THAT I GET TO WORK WITH HER!!

She is great! It will be my 5th lesson with her tomorrow, but she has already gave me confidence in singing (at least I can get my voice out more than before without shame), being patient with me, very informative, and gives great advises.
I originally took her lesson because I had an audition for Christmas Carol, and I wanted to at least go over the song I was going to use. Instead, she gave me another song to sing for the audition. I have never been able to get in a show where singing is the main dish; however, after her advise with the new song, I was thrilled to see an email from the casting director when I was chosen to be in the show! I can never thank enough her for this. :D

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very fun loving person and believe in creating a positive environment where students feel comfortable to be themselves. At the same time I am a stickler for details and do not allow laziness. I believe a balance of fun with excellence has allowed my students to excel far beyond their own expectations. Good results takes HARD WORK! Please do not come to lessons with the expectation to sing like Beyoncé or play piano at Carnegie Hall after 4 lessons. Mastering your voice and instrument takes equal parts of time, hard work, dedication and patience.

My teaching style is individually based.
For vocal clients, I asses their strengths and weaknesses and develop a plan to build up their weak areas while helping them find "their own voice". I focus on breathing, intonation and control which I believe are the foundation of great singing ability. I use a classical Italian based program along with pop, R&B, jazz, and rock. I have vocal coached in many languages including Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.

For piano clients I focus on strength, dexterity and precision in fingering. I also help students learn to feel the music and bring their personality and touch to each piece they are performing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Tanisha currently teaches at her performing arts academy the White H Arts Academy. There are private instruction rooms and a lobby waiting area for parents and guests. Parents may also sit in the lesson room if desired. Private lesson rooms include a piano, speakers, and a music stand.

The White H Arts Academy also has two state of the art mirrored dance rooms with sound systems and wireless microphones for practicing stage performances or rehearsing for a big show.

Los Angeles, CA
View Full Profile

Crystal studied Broadway style vocals at The Boston Conservatory of Music and has been performing professionally on the stage for over ten years.

About Crystal
Crystal brings a lifetime’s experience of professional musicianship to each of her lessons. Born into a family of musicians, she sang her first solo at age 2. She also benefits her students with an extraordinarily diverse musical background, having worked as a vocalist in gospel, country, musical theater, jazz, classical, rock, pop and soul styles. Her performing career has taken her from L.A. church meetings to London’s Houses of Parliament.

Crystal hails originally from Los Angeles, CA - where her musical parents gave her a head start by including her in the family business the moment she was able to contribute. She went on to study classical voice, piano and music theory at The Boston Conservatory of Music. After concluding her studies in London, she returned home and began working regularly as a theater performer, appearing in twen
ty world premiers and re-imagined classics. Most notably she played the lead role of Keely Smith in the big band jazz musical “Louis and Keely: Live At The Sahara” during its eight-month run at Westwood’s Geffen Playhouse. She also formed her own rock band, The Honeysuckle Jones Revival, with whom she performed her own songs all over Los Angeles. And she began working as a studio session vocalist, providing demo vocals for other songwriters, as well as arranging and performing back-up vocals for original artists, including Laura Roppe (currently in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Uncharted list of emerging artists.) Crystal played the lead role of Brooke in the new operatic rock musical “The Burning Opera LA” during its Los Angeles run in 2011 as well as providing ensemble vocals and playing piano and bass. She also performs holiday tunes from the Golden Age of American songwriting with musical quartet The Sleigh Belles.

Crystal believes that music is serious business but that it should be fun. She encourages her students to play music they love, as well as expanding their musical knowledge. She is a firm believer in basics first and emphasizes theory and technique as the tools to support creativity and provide freedom, power and control. She believes effort beats talent every time and the student who practices consistently will see results, whatever their level of ability. Most of all, she believes we were all born to make music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lesson structure varies depending on the student's instrument, age, level of experience and musical style. However, all lessons focus on:

Technique
Music theory
Performance style

After 3 or 6 months of consistent lesson attendance and practice, students will have a clear understanding of how their instrument works and how to care for it. They will be able to read basic music notation. They will be working toward clearly defined musical goals and they will have at least three performance pieces learned.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Loft Space: full size electric piano with weighted keys, small digital recorder, microphone, Garage Band, parents can sit in on lessons

Amazing singng instructor

Crystal has increased my daughter’s self-esteem and expressiveness through song. My daughter is now writing her own poetry and song lyrics, as well as being able to combat her once shyness quality. She loves to perform in front of others now and has a confidence level that amazes me, especially now that she is going into those “teen” years. I think a lot of thanks needs to go to Crystal, for assisting my daughter in reaching her current creative level!

About Radina
I am a dedicated vocal coach, musician, singer, songwriter and founder of "Vocals on Stage".
At the age of 6 I started playing Cello and discovered my passion for music but my main focus quickly became the instrument voice. For the past 8 years I have been working as a vocal instructor in Vienna, San Francisco and Los Angeles, giving private and group lessons.

I've been taking lessons with Radina for a few months and I'm super happy with the progress I've made so far. I didn't know anything about head voice, chest voice, mix and now it's all starting to make sense. I'm not afraid to sing higher notes which I always wanted to be able to do!

Radina is a highly professional and nice teacher, she really understands what is going on in a singers voice and mind and she hears everything.

Michelle was a FANTASTIC instructor! :) I had a really hard time choosing instructors but I am so glad I picked her. Without much prior singing experience, I auditioned and made it into the fifth best choir in the world but I couldn’t have done it without Michelle‘s help! People in the choir were surprised that I was auditioning in without having been in a chorus before. I was inspired to start lessons from watching the last season of American Idol. I started with a 12 pack of online lessons. I was so nervous to sing out load (even in the privacy of my home) but Melody was always positive and encouraging. Even though I didn't practice as much as I should, to my surprise I've gotten better at hitting notes. It's helped even at work (female engineer) for me to easily speak louder and lower when needed. I've been taking lessongs for over a year now and it's still challenging but I always feel awesome afterwards (just like a great workout!) When I listen to singers now I have a whole level of of appreciation. It's like Melody introduced a new language. She's an awesome singer herself and I aspire to sing like her!

More and more revivals are showing up on Broadway and they call for a "legit" sound. That means a classical technique with a musical theater style. Be prepared! The rigors of the musical theater schedule are demanding. A good technique is your only defense against 6-9 shows a week! Protect your finest asset- your talent. No one knows how to do that better than an opera singer...especially on who has sung plenty of musical theater!

About Tania
I'm passionate about teaching voice and it shows in my students. My students are touring internationally, signing with management, being played on the radio, participating in national singing competitions, singing for films and audiobooks, being chosen for prestigious training programs and getting cast as leads in musical theater productions. I have singers pursuing their dreams in all different styles: pop, rock, jazz, musical theater and opera. With over 20 years of training as an opera singer my technique is impeccable! I have trained with the best and love to share my knowledge. Come train in a fun and nurturing environment while improving by leaps and bounds!

Broadway is a very specialized type of singing. Different from classical, different from jazz. What you'll get from me is not only the style you need, but the coaching for your audition or your role as well.

About Judi
Hi everyone! I've been teaching in a variety of areas for many years in many different respects. I teach voice lessons, and audition coaching. I've been doing that for a long time! During my "day-job" years, I was an analyst, and I'm especially skilled with Microsoft Excel. And I LOVE teaching people how to make magic on that program. I have done projects that included creating databases, training departments on the use of said databases, taught entire departments at Jet Propulsion Laboratory how to migrate to Microsoft Outlook from (the archaic) Eudora.

My musical talents run parallel with my affinity for numbers. In my life, it has manifested in music composition, arranging, and musical direction. And, of course, PERFORMANCE! I've performed in and around the Los Angeles area for many years. I own a professional Christmas Caroling co
mpany that I direct and sing in as well. So I'm a performer, and a small business owner! So come see what I can offer!

I am a firm believer in healthy vocal training to help keep your voice in great shape and free from strain. Wanting to sing that impressive song, but felt you haven't got the skill set needed? I will assist you on your musical journey, step by step to help you reach your full singing potential.

About Hannah
I am a professional singer from Dublin, Ireland. I graduated of Berklee College of Music, Boston MA, where I received a Bachelors in Professional Music (Summa Cum Laude), with concentrates in Contemporary Writing and Production, Vocal Performance and Songwriting. I won a scholarship to study at Berklee having completed a Jazz and Contemporary Music Higher Certificate in Newpark School of Music, Dublin.

Prior to this I was classically trained. I studied singing in the Dublin Conservatory of Music, (DIT), where I successfully achieved all eight grades at the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in Classical Singing. I am a past winner of the Soprano Solo category at the All- Ireland Feis Ceoil- premier classical singing competition.

I am currently in the Irish music duo Buska, and Mawd, a touring Indie Rock band in Los A
ngeles. I recently toured with Mawd at the renowned SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas. As an actress, I had a principal part in the hit Irish TV comedy series ‘Damo & Ivor’ back in Dublin. The film, ‘Damo & Ivor: The Movie’, has just been released to cinemas nationwide (March 2018).

With over 4 years of teaching and over 15 years of Classical and Jazz training, I am well equipped to work with both beginners and advanced vocal students. As a student you can expect to see week on week progress. I use different vocal exercises and breathing techniques customized for your voice, recognizing that every voice is unique. I teach students how to release built up tension while applying the foundational breathing techniques every singer should know. I can help each student to sing with confidence, ease and expressiveness.

I look forward to working with you on your singing journey!

Hannah has been amazing in helping me learn how to properly use my voice as well as warming up for shows. She is incredibly understanding and makes you feel comfortable. Not only that, but she is a warm, sweet, and hilarious person to be around. I would recommend her to anyone!

Hannah helped me grow in confidence in ways I could never have predicted. In addition to her indisputable talent, her patience and kind nature as a human made me feel like I could do and achieve anything. I could not reccomend her more. (She's also TOO much fun..)

Hannah helped me an immense amount with technique. I started singing backing vocals in my country band and was having a lot of problem singing harmonies and breathing while singing in general. Thanks to Hanna, I am now a lot more comfortable doing backgrounds, and my bandmates are happy that I am picking up the slack. Thanks Hannah!
