I thoroughly enjoy teaching because I can relate to students who are learning and trying to progress in their instrument as I can remember being in their position when I started learning music. All elements of acoustic and electric guitar to the masters level. Blues, jazz and improvisation are my specialty. I teach all styles and from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. I have vast depth and knowledge of blues and application. I am also a masterful slide guitarist and teach that skill also.

About Paul
Hi! My name is Paul and I'd love to share the joy of playing the guitar with you! I have been a professional musician and teacher for over 35 years. I know much about playing the guitar and being an artist. I am passionate about music, which is why lessons with me are so fun. I know how to customize a program for the motivated student that will bring out the potential of the student at all levels. I will give the student a complete and practical program for advancement and help he or she discover their own talents at a pace that works for them. I even on occasion will conduct blues jams and other challenges such as recording and how to do a You Tube video production that will give the student a chance to use their developing skills by themselves and with others. Here is feedback from one of the parents of a student of mine:

"Alex progressed much further with guitar than he did with piano and he actually got to the point where he enjoyed playing on his own. That was a great accomplishment and very impressive to me...you helped instill some discipline and over the course of your instruction, Alex learned a lot. You were always positive with him, even when that was difficult, and I admired that and still appreciate it. I always looked forward on Sunday mornings to hearing the material the two of you were working on and I know he enjoyed his lesson with you."

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher, one of my biggest goals is to keep my students motivated and get them enthused about their music and committed to daily practice. I will strive to inspire my students, and ensure that all the while, they are having the time of their life! Practice and commitment are key. Students' curricula vary according to the student's goals and strengths and weaknesses. All students will learn how to play in tune and in time, know their fundamentals, work with music theory and learn how to use written materials. (And they will have fun learning!) More advanced students can learn about blues and jazz improvisation, slide guitar and also participate in blues jams with other students, record, and You Tube video production.

*** Studio Equipment ***
All kinds of guitar and bass guitar equipment and portable hard disc recording equipment for student demo recordings.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need a well functioning guitar, music stand, guitar tuner and metronome. Students will also need a notebook to organize written lessons I will hand out.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in blues and jazz mostly, but also have vast knowledge of rock music from it's blues roots to the more modern styles. I also can play in country style, and I play blues slide guitar.

Paul's enthusiasm for the bass is infectious and a great motivator. I actually feel like I may be able to learn to play! In just one lesson I learned more than 5 hours of You Tube tutorials could have taught me.

Great Teacher

I played a little guitar throughout my life but was lacking an understanding of how the instrument works. I found myself strumming a few cords here and there but never with focus or improvement. After only three lessons with Paul, I'm now jamming to rock and the blues!Paul was quickly able to access my level of playing and I'm now understanding how the fretboard works and most importantly having lots of fun during lessons and practice. He teaches with passion and doesn't simply open a book but rather instills his lifelong experience and philosophy into lessons. Many can teach the mechanics of guitar but with Paul, you'll also understand the soul.

Paul Rocks !!

I just had my 2nd lesson with Paul and felt inspired to write a review. I have wanted to learn guitar for many, many years now. In the past, I have always gotten frustrated -or bored- and gave up before I ever even learned a chord. Our 1st lesson, Paul started me with some very basic mechanics. It was just the right amount of information to keep me interested and challenged but not so much that I was overwhelmed the 1st week. From just 15 -30 minutes a day of practicing, I have already gained some flexibility in my fingers and am beginning to have a "feel" for the instrument. I have seen more improvement and learned more from Paul and the exercises he has given me in just 2 lessons than I have collectively ever learned from any other teacher in the past or any book or online tutorial. His knowledge of the instrument, as well as music theory, is vast and he knows how to break it down into digestible bits for maximum benefit to the student. So I am not only learning to play guitar, I am also being introduced to music theory in a very easy to understand manner. He is very patient and creates a safe and supportive environment in which to learn comfortably. I am SO glad I found him!!! His way of teaching really works or me ~ I feel hopeful, inspired and motivated for the first time ever in attempting to learn this instrument. Thank you Paul and Thank You Take Lessons !!

Learn popular styles for the guitar. Rhythm techniques, lead playing in rock and blues contexts, folk and blues finger picking styles, reggae and Island styles. Learn to memorize the notes on the fret board in a friendly and fun method to prepare for reading music notation and chord charts. I also stress the importance of developing your ear, and how to play by ear with fun and interactive secret tricks.

About Paul
I am a firm believer in the power of music to heal, entertain, and teach. It is our first and most vital universal human language and as such, I believe we all have the ability to learn how to communicate beautifully with music to express our deepest feelings. As a teacher it is my privilege and pleasure to help you develop.

From classical violin to jazz piano my early musical education not only spanned genres and instruments but also geographically from Austin Texas to Madison Wisconsin and finally brought me to Los Angeles where I currently reside and produce and teach music professionally.

Helping you or your child reach your musical dreams in a friendly-nurturing environment is my sincere desire and obligation as your teacher. Discipline is required and to be expected, however, an overly rigid or demanding routine can do mo
re harm than good. I believe attention must be paid to individual learning styles. Therefore, as a teacher I have learned to observe carefully at first and custom tailor a practice routine with each student aimed at achieving their goals. I believe the study of music helps foster a deep level of self-confidence and self realization, which eventually leads the student to discover a portion of himself he would otherwise never know. My goal is to inspire others with this joy, which is everyone's birthright and an important key in finding happiness.

A gifted singer-songwriter of Pop, Rock, World and Reggae songs that possess that timeless quality. He has recorded with 2 time Grammy nominated producer Barry Goldberg (Eagles, Robbie Robertson, Verve Pipe, Marilyn Manson). He has released three CDs, had songs featured in compilations and in feature length film, toured North America, and taught guitar, piano, and voice both privately and in an all ages Montessori school in Santa Monica. He consistently played in a variety of bands while earning an A.A. in music from SMC and later a B.A. in Ethnomusicology from UCLA, where he earned distinction as an excellent student both academically and in musical performance. He brought passion to his performances with legends, Fransisco Aguabellas Afro Cuban ensemble, Brazilian Batucada ensemble, African-American gospel choir, music and dance of Ghana, and the Balinese Gamelan ensemble. As a member of several original LA bands, (Las Manchas, Samson Simpson, Toussaint, Mentone, Cloth and Spicy Fernandez) he has performed at world famous venues and toured North America. He co-wrote and co-produced the first EP records by Samson Simson with Ronen Navah, and also co-produced Mentone's first full-length record, "Empire" with Ronen Navah and Aki Ehara" Currently he is developing his new band, Spicy Fernandez, which has released a few singles on the internet and is getting a good buzz from Industry heavy weights.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe in custom tailoring a curriculum to fit the students needs, while still providing them with the same basic tools all musicians need to develop in order to play well (both with themselves and with others). Obviously, some students require more structure and discipline, while others have a stronger work ethic. Some may even need a teacher that is more laid back to balance them out, but more so my job is to facilitate learning and guide. A student studying with me can expect to receive a general assessment of their skill level in musicianship, theory, and on their instrument within the first couple of lessons (or once I feel that I have experienced enough of their abilities). Based on that assessment, I will work with the student to develop a plan of small goals to work toward. Progress will be monitored weekly and larger goals will unfold naturally in accord with the students own dreams and musical ambitions. Within 3 to 6 months of study with me students will learn to play a range of simple songs, basic scales, exercises, finger positions, and have a solid foundation for listening to, and playing to rhythm.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full acoustic upright, Wurlizter electric piano, and keyboard synths, a computer based digital audio workstation...guitars...percussion...in the front room of my house. Has a full set-up for a band.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide copies of some sheet music, a library of music books, percussion instruments, digital recordings of lessons.
I expect that they provide their own instrument, pencil, notebook, 3-ring binder for sheet music, stereo/mp3 player, CD player, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I excel at popular music genres such as pop, blues, R&B, rock, and jazz. I am also trained classically and enjoy the challenges of standard repertoire from Bach to Chopin.
I began studying music as a student of the Suzuki method. However, today I find that my own practice resembles most closely, the Kodály, Dalcroze, and Orff-Schulwerk methodologies in philosophy and application.

Paul is very talented and, a very good and patient teacher. He is prepared for the class even before you arrive at his place, and communicates his thoughts very clearly. He is ready for a challenge if you give him a random song which you wanted to practice, and he begins to play the song on the guitar without any tabs or notes, instead just by listening to it a couple of times.

He's great to work with, and I'd choose him as my guitar teacher again if I ever live in the surrounding area.

Learn to play your favorite songs and/or learn fundamental technique to allow you the flexibility to play guitar in any style!

About Alonso
I have been performing on drums with bands since 2004. Currently, I am involved with one resident project. I freelance as a percussionist and drummer with orchestras, broadway musicals, pick-up bands, and other ensembles in the LA area.

I have been teaching guitar, piano, drums and percussion privately since 2010. I recognize every student's unique skills, experience, tendencies, and get acquainted with their personality to better construct methods and lesson plans that will best suit their learning style.
I often find that I am able to learn just as much from my students as they from me. Nothing beats the feeling of the moment when a student is able to play that lick or song and knowing that I helped them get there.

Whether the instruction is for personal fulfillment as a hobby, professional aspirations, or auditioning for music
schools, I have 3 things you can expect from me and 2 things I expect from you.
From me:
1) Fun! My experience learning music was always fun. My teachers often used humor and musical games to help teach concepts and refocus attention on the lesson. My teaching style is greatly informed by that style.
2) Challenge. There is no learning without challenge. In every lesson we will work on something that will challenge you and get you closer to your goal; a new song, concept, or technique.
3) Custom Lesson Plans. Different ages, different personalities, and different motivations all affect how lessons will be constructed. Lesson plans can range from mostly musical games with technique and music-theory sprinkled in, or the reverse of that.

Expected from you:
1) An understanding that what you get from lessons is what you put into them, or as I like to call it, practice. I do not hold hobbyist students to the same standard as professional students, but I do expect my students to practice as often as t their schedule and situation allows.
2) Questions! Please ask me questions. This will help me streamline your lessons and help me become a better teacher - both of which are of benefit to you!

Instruction from me includes fundamental technique and applied skills on guitar, drums, piano and percussion; music theory, music reading skills, ear training, music history; study of various musical styles including popular styles, classical, jazz and world music; improvisation, memorization techniques, self-motivation techniques, performance anxiety management, developing good practice habits, and body awareness techniques.
I also offer advanced technical studies for drum and percussion students in particular. Guitar and Piano students have the benefit of learning a solid foundation of technique, practice habits, performance anxiety management, theory and ear training.

I have been teaching guitar for 10 years. I specialize in working with beginners, and love to work with children. Whatever style of music you enjoy, I want you to start learning songs right away and having fun. Then we can see how those songs are built, learning musiv theory to broaden your musical horizons.

About Kellen
I believe this is a great time to be a musician. I have come of age as a musician in a time when music making and the music industry have shifted dramatically. There are many positives in this shift, with new oppurtinites opening up for musicians. I also see these changes not being addressed in music education. There are many things I wish I would've been taught when I was younger that would have accelerated my growth, and I love using that knowledge to accelerate my student's growth. I teach tonal harmony (as you'd learn in music school), focus on groove and rhythm (which is commonly neglected in music school), and an awareness of new technology (which was ignored when I was in music school). I believe because no matter which direction you are coming from, you will come to this intersection making music in this era.

I fully believe that everyone has some sort of musical inclination; we all just need to take the time to find the instrument(s) that speak to us.

In our guitar lessons, we will focus on the fundamentals, technique, and some fun tricks! All while highlighting the lessons through music that you already love and listen to!

About JD
Greetings!

I often find myself saying that music is the key to the universe. It is a medium in which all humans, regardless of language or culture are able to connect. It is because of this that I love sharing the knowledge that I have gained from nearly two decades of playing guitar.

I am a Los Angeles based session musician, and private instructor. I currently have a few students, and am looking to grow and take on a few more. My curriculum revolves around:

1) Understanding the basics of theory, and showcasing how those basics are applied in songs (specifically bands and artists that you regularly listen to).
2) Proper technique
3) Some fun and fancy tricks!

My goal is to make sure each lesson is clear so that you may fully understand and enjoy the benefits therein!

JD is a strategic thinker with veteran guitar playing experience, well versed in helping beginning students like me focus on correct technique and methods out of the gate. This is critical! In 6 short months, I can now play multiple Rock&Roll riffs with technical proficiency, although still getting up to tempo, Sweet Child, TNT, Crazy Train. A piano player who struggled mightily at first at reading guitar score, JD helped me to retrain my brain, learning scales and modes. As a direct result, I was able to take the piano score to Cinderella's "Nobody's Fool" and translate it tp guitar score! This slower tempo piece, I am able to play to tempo OOH RAH!
