Private Violin Teacher

Recently graduated from Juilliard, I've been teaching violin and viola for five years, and welcome students of all levels and ages. My background is firmly classical, but additionally I also love fiddle music and give students songs from many genres to learn, arranging upon request. I'm currently a doctoral student at USC, and I work part-time locally as a violinist in the YMF Debut Orchestra. I am also glad to help students with recording, video editing and social media.

About Alexander

As a violin teacher, I always aim to set goals for students, to guide students towards them, and to be direct as possible so far as is appropriate. I also try to stay results-oriented throughout the process. Even if not all of a student’s progress is directly attributable to me, the most important

I really appreciated Alexander teaching me violin. He was basically my first instructor and he was always patient and motivating. He accommodated my unique needs as an adult beginner and brought me far in a short time. He was a little challenged to balance teaching with his heavy school load, but I appreciated his willingness to take the time to teach and help others.

I focus on note reading and music theory, in addition to technical studies. I encourage chamber music and will often pair up students to play duets and trios.

About Mari

Welcome to my music studio! This will be a fun, incredible way to start or continue your music instruction. I have been a private violin and piano instructor since 1991. I took a break in 2005 while my kids were little. Now that they have grown up a bit, I am so excited to come back to this!

Mari was an awesome instructor, and very kind.

I absolutely loved learning from Mari for my piano lessons! As an adult learner, I felt like my brain doesn't work as fast as it used to, so learning a new instrument was difficult, but Mari completely caters each lesson to my learning speed and maximized my abilities. She takes into accounts the areas and types of music I wanted to learn and helped me to achieve being able to play that type of music. I also loved and appreciated that she works around my busy work schedule and accommodating lessons when plans change throughout the week. I would highly recommend Mari as a music teacher to anyone interested in learning a new instrument at all ages!

I've taught ages 3 to 35, beginner to undergraduate collegiate level. I can develop your left hand, bow technique, and musicality to the point that you will sound better when you leave a lesson than when you arrive every single time. I will inspire a love for the instrument that will carry through the week with you.

About Gabrielle

I'm a violinist and pianist from West Friendship, Maryland with twenty years of experience on each instrument and ten years experience teaching. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Louisville. I believe in using positive feedback to develop a student's passion for p

Gabrielle is very encouraging. It’s a lot of fun to take lesson with her.

Gabrielle has a really fun personality, which only helps to compliment her piano skill. Not only that, but she is very flexible on scheduling, and understands that things can come up from time to time for either the student or the teacher. With this expectation in mind, her lessons really make the most of the 30 minutes allotted, and her skills show as she helps you step through each measure. I've taken piano lessons before, quite some time ago, and Gabrielle was quickly able to adapt the lesson to what I already knew versus what I had to re-learn or learn for the first time. Definitely recommend!

Since ive never done this before i dont have much to go off of, but it was still a great experience that was easy to get started.

For beginning students, you can expect to be playing and learning to read music within your first month of taking lessons. Kendra had my 13 year old for about a year and a half as a complete beginner, and we'd still be with her for sure were it not for an easier alternative at a new school this Fall. Kendra has an amazing understanding of the younger student and what incentivizes them to learn and grow fast. My child practiced once a day for at least 30 minutes and in the above time is already making a lot of beautiful music. If you/yours is motivated, Special K is the way! Thnx, Kendra
Corinne
Kendra has been a joy to work with so far through virtual lessons. We are just beginning with her and we are encouraged to continue forward. She has a laser eye for technique and is warm and kind. She not only explains technical placement but she also explains the reasons why they are important. She is great with my 9 year old and really checks for understanding along the way.

Great teaching skills, she knows her craft, and her personality lets you know right away that it is going to be a relaxed pleasant stress free atmosphere that creates the perfect environment to learn. She is patient and is a joy to be around. My whole attitude has been changed from I wonder if is possible for me to learn to play the violin, to I am so excited at the fact that in time, that I actually will be proficient at playing. For that I am so thankful!"

How Can I Make Practicing Violin Scales More Effective?

No matter how much students may groan when it comes to scales, they are very important for all beginners to know, particularly for the violin. Almost all of your knowledge about playing the violin starts with learning how to play scales, from reading sheet music to better understanding the fingerings. Of course, it is not nearly as exciting as playing one of the songs you love, but practicing scales will give you a strong foundation that will help you progress and improve. Violin scales are typ …
