Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.

An instrumentalist since age 10, Thomas has experience as a performer and teacher. His previous education has included methodology classes on teaching specific instruments, and he is available to teach beginning trumpet lessons.

So incredibly patient and knowledgeable!

The first lesson was successful. My particular background in piano is unique, and my needs are atypical as well. I thought Thomas assessed my abilities, lack of abilities, and goals well and quickly. He started me on a different perspective on looking at music (reading the staff) that seems very helpful. I'm encouraged.

David was very patient and flexible with my son. I'd originally ordered clarinet lessons before COVID struck. By the time I managed to get my act together and schedule the lessons, my son had moved on to the piano and David was willing to still work with him. My son loved the lesson and it was great to hear how excited he was about the learning!

I have been a brass musician for over 15 years. The past four years, I have been working as a middle school band director! The goal these lessons will be to build a routine to further you on your musical journey while having a ton of fun!!

About Erica

My name is Erica. I am a French horn and Trumpet teacher in the North hills of Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to this position, I taught in Fort Worth ISD in Texas as the Head Band Director at Stripling Middle School for two years and at Young Men's Leadership Academy for two years. Thanks Ms. Erica!!!

My lesson with Erica was such an encouraging time. Not only does she know her instrument craft very well, but her actual teaching skills were professional level. This is what stood out the most. Many people can tell you about instruments because they “are a professional musician”, but she can actually teach you how to become a musician.
She taught the lesson in a way that kept me engaged and kept it from feeling like a simple “private lesson”. Her humor and personality were infectious. Ask her about her “big booty Judy whole rests”.

I always leave with a task to take home and practice that builds upon the previous lessons. It’s encouraging seeing someone that has organized their teaching in such a way that the student can follow along and see their own improvement each week. Grateful for someone who cares about her students growth along with the music itself.

"I'm 58yrs old and a comeback player. I haven't played in over 40yrs. Yesterday was my 2nd class with him. And I was amazed at how my playing is already showing progress thanks to Gregory. He puts you at ease almost immediately. He is very patient and through his instruction I've gained more confidence in my playing. Gregory gets 5 stars for his demeanor, trumpet and overall music knowledge. He is the go to instructor in my opinion.

"Gary is an amazing teacher, the best I've had. He not only knows what he's doing, but he is very adept at explaining in a way that I can understand. Currently he is teaching my brother trumpet, my sister French horn and me trombone. We are all learning at incredible rates and we all started at different levels. On top of that, we can all tell that he really cares about us and wants to help us do well in all of our individual musical endeavors. He is helping my brother with jazz improv, my sister with tone and me with musical arranging. It is very personalized and that's what makes him a great teacher."

"Jennifer is an excellent instructor. She came to our home and worked with my middle school son on trumpet. My son was struggling with his technique and was frustrated with the school band program. Jennifer's teaching style is one of positive encouragement and incredible patience. She took the extra time to find music of interest to my son to enhance and make the lessons fun, especially due to his frustration with some of the more boring pieces of music assigned through the school. I highly recommend Jennifer!"

"Trumpet Lessons

My son wants to play trumpet in the jazz band at school so he asked for lessons over the summer. I’m so glad we found Jordan. He welcomed us right in and worked so well from that first moment. My son is a bit shy, so I’m so grateful that he found learning from Jordan so easy. In fact, every time he came out of a lesson, he asked for more lessons! The feedback from Jordan has been nicely detailed so we know where he is improving, where to focus his practice sessions (and reminding him to practice), and giving suggestions of music to listen to, to make him notice that the learning isn’t just practicing, but listening as well. Jordan clearly knows and practices what he teaches. My son also mentioned that he really appreciates the times when Jordan plays along with him during the practice. Thanks Jordan!"

"Wade helped me find my sound in not only music but also my life. He gets to know each and everyone of his students on a personal level and tailors their lessons to fit their goals and needs. I entered his lessons at a beginner level on trumpet and over the next two semester, I was able to work my sound quality up to several years of experience within a short period of time. He is someone who has worked in both the field of education and the music business. With his knowledge he was able advised me through my music, business ventures, and life goals. Out of all of the instructors I have taken lessons through, Wade has been the only one to find a way to teach the material while impacting and interacting with today's way and age of learning. He uses music, books, audio, and media to help suit all ways of learning. I have and still recommend his work today to anyone who is interested in learning music and pursuing the arts."
