Lawrence is well informed on what kinds of formulas to use and when to use them. He is also very good at making sure that you understand the topic and taking the extra time to help you get to a good level of understanding.

Larry and his wife are so friendly and knowledgeable. I came away from my first lesson feeling much more confident in my ability and encouraged to develop it further. They critiqued my current ability without being mean or hurtful, and they gave me plenty of positive feedback on the things I'm doing right. Being self-taught will only get you so far. Having an actual instructor who can create a plan based on your specific needs is invaluable. I highly recommend.

About Clifford
'Dr. Cliff,' a part-time college/university professor, teacher and tutor with 5 master's and 3 doctoral degrees in a variety of topics: Mathematics, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, MBA, Leadership, Education and Administration. He has always used proven educational techniques to instruct undergraduate students, graduate students and school children/teenagers (K-12). Dr. Cliff believes that, although many professors and teachers do an admirable job in the classroom, many students
and children do not learn well in traditional institutions. Many students and children don't respond to the assembly line nature of most institutions. He believes that a student's or child's strengths and natural abilities need to be the foundation of learning. Dr. Cliff often warns against a "cookie cutter" approach to educating students, teenagers and children. You or your child is seen as an individual, and natural strengths are identified and built upon. Therefore, individual one-on-one tutoring or help is the key approach to each student who has any challenges difficulties in a given subject.

In today’s environment and economic challenges, with shorter budgets for the education, larger classes sizes and pressure of performing well in all kind of standard tests, I often see many students lacking true knowledge and skills in a given subject, since they cannot get individualized attention during the class session. That’s where a tutor comes into the picture, not only uncover major “holes” in students’ knowledge set but also teach students how to study, how to learn and through proper guidance “fill” those knowledge and skills holes.

Master in all Pre-calculus concepts. Can identify student shortfalls and address them through the subject fundamentals approach and by tying in real world applications for easier grasp of material.

About Daniel
818-577-7000

I'm a graduate of UCLA School of Engineering with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. I have a passion for explaining how the physical world works through math and physics along with 9 years of tutoring experience in those subjects, test prep, and mentorship programs. The teaching strategy I believe in emphasizes subject fundamentals, a powerful and necessary tool for higher problem solving. This strategy has proven very effective regardless of the student's educational background or mental ability. Besides being knowledgeable, I am motivating, caring, and patient in guiding your student to academic success!

Executive Functioning is a separate realm that tutoring can assist in. It deals with cognitive processes including organization, time management, and study skills. Much of the difficulty students face in academic subje
cts can be attributed to the lack of executive functioning. They either cannot keep up with the pace and workload that advanced courses demand or haven't figured out the best way to study for themselves. I am able to assess a student's shortcomings and formulate a plan for higher achievement.

Math:
• Elementary • Pre-Algebra • Algebra 1 & 2 • Geometry • Pre-Calculus
• Trigonometry • AP Calculus • Applied/Business Calculus • Differential Equations

Physics:

Precalculus is an important subject that allows a student to move to calculus. I help my students to make this transition as smooth as possible. We discuss not only different ways to solve problems but why we solve problems this way and why this way is working. It usually allows students to create a path to the solution even they don't remember how to solve this particular problem. My students not only improve the grades but what is even more important, they feel better about math in general.

About Marina
Hi, my name is Marina. I have a masters degree in Math and I'm from Russia. So, I could help you with both subjects:). I love to work with you on your goals and help you to achieve things that you set for yourself. I am also flexible with time and different types of math support.

I have taught classes in pre calculus. I do ONLINE tutoring as well as in-person. When I am helping a student my job is not to tutor but to teach.

About Dr. Arnold
Hello,

I have a Ph.D. in Math and have been teaching college math courses and tutoring HS math courses for over 40 years. My top subjects are Statistics, Probability, Calculus, Discrete Math, Finite Math as well as HS AP and pre-calculus classes.

I tutor in-person as well as online. With online tutoring I can be contacted on short notice and if I am free we can connect immediately so I can give homework assistance or help prep for an exam.

For In-Person tutoring I tutor in my home office, in your home or at a mutually agreeable location. I am near Queens College and St. John's University if meeting on campus is convenient. (Travel charge might increase for a longer travel distance or time. Upper level or graduate courses might be at a higher hourly rate.)

I have been successfully tutoring students for as long as I have been
teaching. My goal is to give my students the ability to understand the mathematical concepts that will enable him or her to do well in their particular course.

I know that math does not come easily to everyone and I tailor my tutoring to go at a pace that is appropriate for each individual.

It is just as important for a tutor to listen to the student as it is for the student to pay attention to the tutor.

I look forward to putting my tutoring to work to help you meet and exceed your expectations.

Dr. F. was extremely patient with my son. He always made sure to go over the questions until my son was able to do them on his own. We were able to contact him and get online help right away which was great when my son was stuck on a homework assignment. If anyone asks if I would recommend him I would give an emphatic yes!

I am a doctoral-level student and haven't taken a statistics course since being an undergraduate over 15 years ago. As such, Arnold has been tremendous in helping me revisit this topic, and I firmly believe he has the skillset to do this no matter what the student's level educational level is. He is extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and patient. I highly recommend him as a tutor. You will not be disappointed!

I've been helping students achieve their goals in mathematics since 2008. My students go on to be intrigued by math rather than afraid of it because I give them the necessary tools to approach a problem. In the beginning I'll asses where the students stands in the material and put together a plan that allows that specific student to learn the material the best way possible. I teach every student differently according to their strengths and I look forward to working with you!

About Nick
Hi there! My name is Nick and I've been helping students achieve their classroom goals since 2008. As a computer engineering major at the University of Central Florida I've seen my fair share of mathematics and know a ton of tips and tricks that will enable you to learn rather than memorize material. In my tutor sessions I like to ask my students a lot of questions, this helps students absorb the material we are going over as well as give them confidence when answering questions. I'm a fun, dedicated, and hard working person that will help you meet your goals and I'm looking forward to working with you.

I am an MIT tutor specializing in math and science, and I have taught math anywhere between pre-algebra and calculus (including Precalculus) for 5 years. I have received perfect scores on both SAT Math, ACT Math, and SAT Math Level 2 (SAT Subject Test). I have taken AP Calculus BC while in high school, and I have taken Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations at MIT, and I actively participated in many math competitions through elementary, middle, and high schools.

Before the lessons, I like to talk with parents, students, and/or teachers to fully gauge what they have been struggling with and how to best help them. Then I identify the student's gap in knowledge while helping them complete their homework and give them additional drilling problems as needed to help them fully master the materials and do well on their tests. I always carry around books containing extra problems depending on the students' levels and goals. I often introduce relevant SAT Math 2 problems to help

About Nayoon
I'm an MIT tutor specializing in math and test prep, and I have taught math (anywhere from prealgebra to calculus) for 6 years. I have gotten perfect scores on SAT Math, SAT Subject Test Math Level 2, and ACT Math, and I also recently helped one of my students raise his SAT scores from 670 to 800 in a month. I also have taken AP Calculus BC (single-variable calculus) in high school and Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations at MIT. I have been an active member of math team from elementary to high school, and my sister and I solve math problems for fun in our spare time.

I'm passionate about learning and student development. I read about learning hacks when I'm tired, and, in my ideal vacation, I would learn about all things that are on my bucket list (yes, I'm serious). I'm also near-obsessed about students' experiences and
their development and nearly always think about the ways to improve their experiences. The student testimonials below confirm their excellent experiences.

“I would not have passed my test in such a short time without her. I hired her a week before my test. She was very professional and very smart, and she used different technique to help me remember.”
- Fabiola L.

“Calc is going great. I got all A’s on my first three tests. Thank you for all your help!”
- Mark G.

“My daughter is so happy about her A in math. Thank you for everything you are teaching her!”
- S., Newton, MA

I believe in in-depth learning. In-depth learning helps my student build the foundation necessary to succeed in their future courses. To facilitate this type of learning, many of my lessons feature derivation of formulas. For the lessons that do not involve formulas, I present a few simple concepts from which we can derive and solve many other problems. My lessons also feature numerous questions to enhance student engagement and to improve student confidence of having them solve the problem on their own as much as possible. I then drill my students with practice problems and get them to explain until I'm fully convinced that my students truly understood the material.

Though I specialize in gifted students, I also have worked with students from all kinds of background. Most of my students are either high school or college students, but I also worked with younger students. I also helped some students implement organizational tips and develop study skills necessary to succeed in their future classes. My students are from all over the world--China, France, Korea, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Vietnam, and United States. To this day, my closest friends are still the international students. English is my second language as well, and I certainly empathize with students who struggle with the English language.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you think we may be good fit!

Pre Calculus

About AHMED
I do not see teaching as simply repeating what has been already detailed in text books and lectures. Everyone’s mind is different and thus everyone has a unique perception to understanding one issue or another. Things are better illustrated with an example.

A while back, there was a television show hosted by a T.V. personality named Monty Hall. In the show, Monty presented a contestant with 3 closed doors. Behind one door was a new car. And behind each of the other two doors was a goat. The contestant had the option to choose one door so as to win the new car.

The probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 or door 3 was the same, about 33.33%. Let us say that the contestant picked door 1. Monty would then open one of the other two doors that were not chosen by the contestant. There were 3 terms in the game: 1) Monty knew what w
as behind each door; 2) Monty cannot open the door that was already chosen by the contestant; 3) Monty would only open a door that hides a goat.

Let us say Monty opened door 3 revealing a goat. Monty then asked the contestant if the contestant would like to switch to door 2 or keep his original choice of door 1. Contestants would be bewildered not knowing really what to do. Was it better to keep the originally choice or was it better to switch or it would make no difference whether to keep the original choice or switch?

Meet Marilyn vos Savant. Marilyn wrote a column called “Ask Marilyn” in a newspaper called Parade. Marilyn was known for having one of the highest recorded IQ. A reader sent Marilyn a letter asking her if it was better to switch or not to switch. Marilyn stated in her column that a contestant should switch since switching doubled the contestant’s chances of winning. Many of Marilyn’s readers erupted in protest including readers with Ph.D., mathematicians, and academicians. Most people believed that the probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 was the same of 50%.

This became known as The Monty Hall Problem or The Monty Hall Paradox. Articles and books were written over this problem. Actually Marilyn was right and this was proven using computer simulation. Yet until today many people cannot understand that switching doubles the chances of winning.

At first glance this paradox might seem irrelevant to teaching. But I think it does. This paradox tutor the mind in the subject of structured thinking which is very important in learning.

Hate trig? I used to, but it's not so bad when you dive in!

About James
I am a student at Carnegie Mellon University and have been teaching or tutoring for close to a decade now. This includes paid and volunteer private tutoring, classroom teaching, teaching assistant, and even a summer camp for elementary and middle-school students to learn computer science and programming skills. I also competed in math club during high school and was particularly successful in my senior year competing in statistics (6th place in the individual Nationals statistics event).

Whether you want to catch up with your current math course, get ahead and learn more advanced math, or aiming to ace your SAT/ACT I'd be happy to help. What I enjoy most is to have a friendly, peer relationship with students rather than being seen as just a tutor so you can expect to have fun while learning. However, what is most important to me is not l
earning how to solve problems or getting high grades but rather knowing that my students UNDERSTAND the problems and solutions without simply memorizing. And you can take that as my personal guarantee.

Some might call me a "math nerd" (to which I take absolutely no offense) but I have other interests as well. Most recently I've taken up golf but I love playing any sport with friends. I also watch nature documentaries and comedies. And of course I also love videogames (Overwatch, COD, FIFA) as well as boardgames. To some parents these might seem like useless facts but as an experienced teacher I can tell you that connecting with students on unrelated topics has an invaluable effect on the student-teacher relationship and will make for a smoother, unfiltered learning atmosphere. Not to mention it's much more exciting to refer to a sports analogy for a word problem rather than the unrelatable problems people are unfortunately used to ("person A buys x ft of fence...").
