Sight singing.

About Carol
I have taught voice for over twenty years. I studied music at University of California, Santa Barbara, where I received my B.A. I currently work as a professional singer for various local opera companies, music theater groups, churches and temples. I am principal soprano for Opera A La Carte and have also soloed with Repertory Opera Company, Redlands Bowl Festival, Laguna Beach Chorale and Celestial Opera Company. I have worked extensively in Los Angeles schools performing musical assemblies for students in elementary and middle grades through Southland Opera, LA Opera and Guild Opera of Southern California. My teaching experience includes private voice lessons and master classes at Idyllwild School for the Arts.

*** Lesson Details ***
I emphasize breathing techniques to free up the voice to expand your range and ease of singing. In
the lesson, we start with simple warm ups and vocalizes and then apply techniques to the songs you want to sing. I realize each student is different and I customize the lesson to the student's particular needs. I specialize in classical and music theater, however the basics of singing apply to all styles of music. In addition to working on breathing and technique for singing, we'll also focus on interpretation of the songs you are working on as well as how to overcome performance nervousness. Most students find that they are able to sing with more freedom, less tension and will have more confidence as they progress.

I also teach beginning piano, using the John W. Schaum series.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the main room, upright piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
They need to provide a piano or keyboard if I am going to their home.
I have a piano in my home.

*** Specialties ***
I work on using the breath as a fundamental technique for singing. Singing should never hurt. I use a lot of imagery to achieve freedom in singing.

Each lesson is customized to individuals needs. I am comfortable teaching classical music because that is what I'm trained in. However, if a student wants to learn pop songs or New Age music I can accommodate them too. My emphasis is on sight reading and theory of music so children as well as adults can handle easy as well as more advanced pierces with their learnings.

About Simona
I am a graduate of Conservatory of Music in Iran. I have been playing piano since I was 6 years old. My background and training is in classical music but I am very comfortable working with students who are interested in popular, jazz, broadway or new age music.
I am also a kindermusick educator which gave me the opportunity to work with babies and moms introducing the notion of music and rhythm to them with singing and introduction of instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am classically trained and I start by introducing some theory and notes to students. We will start playing songs from the first lesson. My goal is to keep the lessons fun and exciting. I am very laid back and love to have fun with the students. My background is in music and I have worked with toddlers as well as older children. I am very patient and flex
ible with my students. I would like them to play what interests them. I do offer
annual recitals which is a good motivation for the kids to work hard and earn trophies and medals. Students can expect to have great sight reading as well as be able to play basic songs after 3 months.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons are held in my private studio or in students' homes

*** Travel Equipment ***
Piano or Keyboard

*** Specialties ***

Training in traditional (tertian) harmony, from basic chord structure to more advanced concepts (like theory of tensions).

About John
With a pedigree going back to Beethoven, a bachelor's in music and a certificate in theory, harmony, and ear training from Berklee College of Music online, I have a broad and versatile musical background. My training began when I was in 6th grade and started taking piano lessons. By 9th grade I began competing in national private school fine arts competitions, and aside from my solo performance background I have had extensive experience accompanying, writing, and arranging music.
I also come from a family of school teachers (both my parents, two aunts, and one uncle), and have extensive experience dealing with and teaching children (like tutoring, substitute teaching, coaching, and teaching in a church setting).
Because of all this background, I feel well-prepared to not only bring a strong knowledge-base and skill-set to the lessons I
provide, but also to helpfully convey that knowledge-base and skill-set to my students.
My lessons are catered to the student and aim to develop the whole musician, technically and artistically, incorporating a broad musical understanding with the goals of the parent and/or student in mind. Let's make some true musicians!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not provide any travel equipment. The student should provide a piano/keyboard for lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Along with teaching traditional piano technique, I specialize in improvisation, arranging, songwriting, and composition.

With over 4 years of composing, 6 years of gigging and playing the guitar for 14 years, I have cultivated a unique approach to Music. My style is rooted in Music Theory knowledge and my personality. I've had four lessons so far with Steve, and I am so pleased with how it is going! Steve is very skilled, patient, kind, punctual and professional. He responds to all my questions, and is very encouraging. He comes to my office in Pasadena to give me my lesson.

I find that the biggest challenge in learning something new, is keeping my own internal critic under control as I struggle with note reading, and learn how to play the guitar. The fact that Steve is so patient and never critical helps to offset my internal critic. I have felt self doubting in the first two lessons, but by lesson 3, I am confident that if I keep practicing and working with Steve, eventually I will get it.

Steve also shared info re his Taylor Mini guitar which is much smaller than the typical guitar, easier for me to play because the frets are smaller for smaller hands. I just bought my own Taylor Mini, a beautiful instrument which also inspires me to keep at it! Steve is also introducing some popular songs starting in lesson 3, which also makes it more enjoyable.

This is one of the best decisions I have made for myself, and I am very happy that I was lucky to find Steve. He's great!

We will cover theory concepts ranging from music reading to harmonic progressions and basic analysis. The goal will be to understand music with more depth, ultimately improving performance practice as well as the understanding of music as a whole.

About Christina
My name is Christina and I am very passionate about the vocal arts, specifically Opera. Opera was a surprise in my life that I discovered in college. I am now currently pursuing my MM degree in vocal arts at UCLA. The classical technique can provide a great foundation to healthy singing, ensuring a long and healthy vocal life.

Along side opera and other genres of singing, I believe basic knowledge in piano is extremely beneficial in improving musicality and an understanding of each piece. Piano greatly improves sight reading and ones ability to learn music quickly and efficiently. It can allow one to develop an understanding of harmony and context within each unique piece of music.

I would love to help and guide those interested in music, specifically classical voice, opera, musical theater, and piano. I would love to share the gre
at joy it brings me with others and pass down what I have learned over the years. I have completed courses in music pedagogy and education alongside my degree, and believe in shaping my lessons around each individual's learning style so that each student may continue to grow while having fun. Helping each student develop their own unique musical identity is one of the main goals with these lessons.

I'll help you get to know your scales/chords/intervals and their practical use in music. Be able to analyze a harmonic structure for songs to better understand the music you play!

About Nadav
Hi there,

My name is Nadav and I have been a professional guitar player and teacher for most of my life now. I have a very extensive experience playing festivals and venues in the U.S and abroad and have been teaching beginner and advanced guitar/bass and musical ensemble classes for 15 years.

I always strive to make the lessons fun (otherwise, what's the point? (: ) all the while being educational and try to have the student start playing actual music (simple melodies/songs) from the very first lesson.

For more advanced students- I focus on many valuable technics for live playing/recording situations as well as theory/harmony and ear training and cover a very wide range of musical styles.

I also teach electric bass and Ukulele.

I have graduated from the Rubin Academy for Music and Dance (Jerusalem) with honors and was
a dean's list honoree while attending the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (NYC) I have been awarded with the America-Israel Culture Fund's "Exellence in Jazz Guitar" award as well as many scholarships for various prestigious musical institutions around the world.

I'm happy to teach at both my apt. in West Hollywood or the student's home.

Speaking from the standpoint of a colleague of Nadav’s for many years and professional musician/educator myself, Nadav is the real deal. He is my top recommendation, without question, for anyone looking to study the guitar and/or music in general.

Nadav is an extremely gifted and skilled musician, composer, and bandleader with very deep understanding of playing the guitar. He has the experience and versatility to so in a multitude of different styles ranging from R&B, Pop, Funk, Jazz and Ethiopian groove music (check out his incredible band: Abbess Orchestra). He is also extremely kind, has a gentle yet “matter-of-fact” demeanor and is the consummate professional.

For anyone who has interest in learning the guitar and needs an instructor, no matter their experience level, it’s impossible to go wrong with Nadav. Just check him out and sign up!
